/ensors allow a %*C to detect the state of a process. *ogical sensors can only detect a state
that is either true or false. &ype of sensor such as Contact switches, %ro2imity sensor and %hoto sensor . 3ach
sensor ha4e own function.
INKING AND OURCING
)hen choosing the type of input or output module for your system it is 4ery important to ha4e a solid
understanding of sinking and sourcing concepts. &herefore, sinking and sourcing terminology applies only to DC
input and output circuits. Input and output points that are sinking or sourcing can conduct current in one direction
only. &his means it is possible to connect the e2ternal supply and field de4ice to the I50 point, with current trying
to flow in the wrong direction, and the circuit will not operate. 6owe4er, the supply and field de4ice can be
connected e4ery time based on an understanding of sourcing and sinking.&he figure below depicts a sinking input.
&o properly connect the e2ternal supply, it must be connected so the input pro4ides a path to supply common!7". /o,
start at the %*C input terminal, follow through the input sensing circuit, e2it at the common terminal, and connect
the supply !7" to the common terminal. y adding the switch between the supply !8" and the input, the circuit is
completed. Current flows in the direction of the arrow when the switch is closed.

La**er Diagram Mnemonic Co*e
1 4ery commonly used method of programming %*Cs is based on the use of the ladder diagrams. )riting a program
is then equi4alent to drawing a switching circuit. &he ladder diagram consists of two 4ertical lines representing the
power rails. Circuits are connected as hori<ontal lines, i.e the rungs of the ladder, between these two 4erticals.
PAWORD INPUT
1. &he %*C has a password control to pre4ent unauthori<ed access to its program. &o enter password, press
