Instructional Sequence
Introduction
1. I will begin by explaining the purpose of the lesson and behavioral expectations that I have for the students during the read aloud and during discussions. 2. I will introduce the lesson and explain that we will be talking about one of the national symbols for our country. 3. I will tap into the students prior knowledge by asking them if they can think about any national symbols that they have already learned about (i.e. Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell). 4. I will bring the class back together and read them an informational text about the Bald Eagle. Before I begin the story I will ask them listen for important information, and connect the information to the images in the text.
Body
1. After reading the text, I will write two sentence frames on the board Yo, aprend que________, El Aguila Calva tiene_____, and El Aguila Calva es_______. 1. Next, I will pair up the students and ask them to discuss key points from the book using the sentence frames as a guide. 2. As the students are discussing, I will listen in to their conversations while taking notes to make sure that they are using the sentence frames and using new vocabulary from the text. 3. I will bring the class back together and ask them to begin sharing out things that they learned from the text. 4. As students are saying key points from the text, I will write them down on a poster board around an image of the Bald Eagle. As the students are speaking, I will also clarify any difficult words.
Closure
1. Once the GLAD chart is completed, we will go over key points the text, answer any questions, and clarify new vocabulary.
