Intro to IndiaPopulation.

This workbook is designed to illustrate three common methods of forecasting via extrapolation with a real data set
consisting of population estimates for the country of India.
The Extrapolation worksheet contains estimates from the US Census Bureau for
India's population at mid-year over the past fifty years and forecasts for the next
fifty years.
The three forecasting methods are:
(1) Linear trend forecast
(2) Logarithmic trend forecast
(3) Autoregressive forecast
Reference Point: 1999
The sheet illustrates both ex post forecasts, in which data for the period 19501990 is used to forecast future population in the period 1991-1999, and ex ante
forecasts in which data from 1950 to 1990 is used to forecast population for the
period 2000-2050.
