If I Was a Superhero
By Sally Gray
If I was a superhero
Id definitely fly.
Arms outstretched
Racing birds in the sky.
If I was a superhero
Id have special powers
Like extra strong legs
For jumping over towers.
If I was a superhero
Id save all the oceans
With my secret and magical
Cleaning up potions.
If I was a superhero
Id save all the trees
And the mountains and rivers,
The birds and the bees.
If I was a superhero
Id help all the poor,
Give them food,
And make them hungry no more.
If I was a superhero
Im sure youll agree
The world would be better
Because of me!

The next 4 pages show how to use
two hula hoops to play a whole
class getting to know you game
while introducing venn diagrams.
Lay hula hoops down overlapping on
the floor with the label nearby.
Each student will need a card with
his/her name on it.
Teacher will call out the option
cards. Students will put their cards
in the appropriate space inside the
Super Hoops. Talk about the
results, remove cards and ask the
next question. Ive included some
questions, but certainly have
students come up with some as well!

How Many
Sounds Do You
Hear?
This next little game will help kids
practice the concept that words are
made of individual sounds or
phonemes.
Print the word cards on card stock.
This game can be played whole group,
small group or just pairs. Teacher
reads the cards (or students- if
playing independently). Students count
the sounds (phonemes). Students will
move their cloud (cotton ball) around
the superhero on the cloud spaces.

(phonemes) in words. They will
sort the words into 1, 2, or 3
phoneme categories. Print off
the sorting board (there are
two on a page), the word cloud
tiles, and the recording page.

Students will play a memory game where cards are
shuffled and placed face down and spread out on the
table or floor. Students will take turns turning over 3
cards. All three cards should describe the same
thing, eg. one, 1, and a ten frame showing 1 burst. If
they dont match, student turns cards back over, and
the other student takes a turn. If the cards do
match, student calls out BURST! and keeps the cards.
Student with the most cards at the end of the game
wins. Store sets in baggies with the direction card.

Science Observation Lesson
Teacher info
Teach the important scientific skill- observation.
You will need some small containers, some skittles and some warm
water. Thats it!
Put kids into small groups so each kiddo can have a good chance
to observe. Put enough warm water to cover skittles into each
container. Have kids set each Skittle into the water with the S
face up. Let them observe!! Hopefully they will see the color
dissolving off each Skittle and the S floating up to the top!
Record observations!!
(The ink used for the S does not readily dissolve in water- and
therefore floats up to the top..)
