THE PRINCIPAL OF THE TOGGLE MECHANISM
A POSITIVE LOCK WITH A QUICK ACTION RELEASE FACILITY
I The toggle mechanism is a method of using the mechanical advantage of a geometrical linkage to
amplify the low operator input force to a high output clamping force.
I This is achieved using the over centre principal, which provides a positive lock, preventing the clamp
from opening during work holding.
I These features make the toggle clamp most suitable for repetitious work holding applications,
whilst allowing a wide clearance to load and unload the work piece.
I The over centre dimension is critical to the reliable function of the clamp, ensuring that the
linkage locks sufficiently to allow the maximum output force even under arduous conditions.

Technical Information
The forces generated by the toggle mechanism can be categorised into two groups;
Holding Force; The force that the clamp can exert in the closed position without the clamp mechanism
unlocking due to deformation of the linkage.
Clamping Force; The force that the clamp mechanism can produce with the clamping spindle in a
known fixed position in the clamp arm, from a known input force through the clamp handle. This force
can be increased or decreased according to the position of the clamping spindle in the arm.

VERTICAL CLAMPS
Vertical toggle clamps are the most versatile, producing the highest clamping forces
with the arm and handle geometry using the same axis direction.
Features include:
I Red vinyl hand grip with cushioned rib profile for improved user comfort.
I All body and linkage components are zinc plated to resist corrosion.
I Pivot points are fitted with hardened steel or stainless steel rivets to maintain accuracy
and provide a long service life.
I Clamps with adjustable spindles are manufactured with a formed end to the arm,
which captivates the spindle should it become loose during operation.
I Flanged washers are supplied with all slotted arm versions and weldable bolt retainer
brackets are supplied with all solid arm models.
I The arm and handle opening angles can be increased on some models by the removal
of a positioning pin on the base of the clamp.

Push-Pull toggle clamps use a plunger mechanism to produce a positive straight-line
action. They have the advantage of having a low profile, using side or end clamping, and
so are most suitable for applications having a height restriction.
Features include:
I All body and linkage components on the light duty range are zinc plated
to resist corrosion.
I The heavy-duty range has ductile cast iron bases for strength and rigidity.
I A close tolerance is maintained between the base and plunger to allow use for pin
location and gauging as well as clamping applications.

Prevention of accidental handle opening even if the air supply is disconnected

TOGGLE PLIERS, C CLAMPS & F SERIES FABRICATING CLAMPS
Toggle pliers have the advantage of a pivoting jaw mechanism to allow a deep throat depth to
open and close easily when clamping awkward profiles such as steel angle section.
The jaw spindle can be pre-set to achieve the optimum clamping distance and pressure and
so is most useful for repetitious clamping applications.
F clamps are manufactured to a robust design with hardened and tempered forged steel jaw
and clamping rail to provide a long service life.
Available in two versions, the T handle design allows very high clamping forces to be achieved
with the hex nut facility on the spindle.
The quick action lever ratchet type allows instant clamping and loosening of the workpiece
with minimum effort.
Features include:
I Heavy duty forged steel jaws and handles to achieve high clamping forces without flexing.
I All pliers and fabricating clamps are zinc plated finish to resist corrosion and have profiled
handles for improved operator comfort.
I Models GH-50380 & GH-50450 are manufactured with an integral central release
trigger to facilitate quick release with minimum effort.

Good Hand 'C' clamps are manufactured from drop forged high alloy steel with strengthening luggs at the stress
points to minimise deflection of the jaw even under the highest clamping pressures.
The clamping spindle is precision machined with a square buttress thread to provide a high clamping force with

BENCH MOUNTED TOGGLE PRESSES
Introduction
All Good Hand Toggle Presses incorporate a Push-Pull toggle clamp plunger mechanism to
produce a positive straight-line action. They have the advantage of delivering the
maximum output force in the fully extended position of the stroke, and so are most
suitable for applications such as shearing, piercing, swaging punching and rivetting.

This range of clamps has been developed to withstand the most arduous welding
conditions and are very well suited to repetitive production areas such as the
automotive industry.
They have the advantage of having the basic toggle mechanism, onto which the
arm and handle can be welded at the desired position to suit the specific application.
Features include:
I Holding forces of up to 2000 kg can be achieved.
I Two types of base mounting are available;
(1) A short swivel base to allow the clamp to be mounted at an angle relative to
