BSc in Applied Accounting in conjunction with ACCA

a short Introduction

The Oxford Brookes University BSc in Applied Accounting is a partnership qualification
developed with ACCA, for their students once they have completed all their Fundamental papers F1
to F9 and the Professional Ethics module. You are required to submit a successful Research and
Analysis Project to gain the degree.

It is an essential part of the Programme requirements and the University Regulations that you must
pass or be exempt from the ACCA Fundamentals exams, including sitting and passing all of F7, F8
and F9 whilst being opted in to the Oxford Brookes BSc.

Oxford Brookes University requires all students wishing to study with the University to prove their
ability to communicate in English. For ACCA students that is currently shown by completing paper F4
(unless students can provide ACCA with sufficient alternative proof and gain exemption). Therefore
Fundamental Paper F4 must be completed before students start the key papers F7, F8 and F9 which,
when a student is opted-in, are also taken as a student of Oxford Brookes University.

The ACCA website states: Oxford Brookes University currently deems Paper F4 as proof of
English proficiency therefore you should complete this exam and opt in with ACCA before
passing Papers F7-F9. [NOTE: this will change from December 2014]

All questions about timing of taking papers and eligibility rest with ACCA, and they will advise us of a
student's status. Oxford Brookes University cannot change a student's status with ACCA.

Students submit their work on-line through our submissions portal, http://www.obusubmissions.co.uk/
where the submission fee is also paid:

Students who are interested in this qualification have to become a student member of ACCA, select to
be "opted-in" to the BSc programme and complete all their exams successfully. Students have 10
years to complete their exams and submit for the BSc degree.

The programme is a distance learning course delivered in partnership with ACCA and must
be completed within ten years of the students first ACCA examination. The degree is the
equivalent to a three year UK undergraduate course and totals 360 credits, or 180 ECTS
credits.

A programme requirement for the BSc Project is when undertaking a Financial based project
to use the last 3 financial reports that are available, or will be available, at the time of writing
the report. If the results are not going to be published in time for them to be included in the
report, then students should use the previous 3 year's results. The Programme Director has
advised that any Company results that are published (in any form) less than 90 days before
submission closes do not have to be used.

It is the students responsibility to find someone to act as their Project Mentor and to arrange
three meetings with him or her. It is not possible for Oxford Brookes University to provide a
Project Mentor for students, but Oxford Brookes University has identified three categories of
individuals from which you should choose your Project Mentor.

o The person the student chooses should be one of the following:
Their tutor at College or University
A senior colleague at work e.g. line manager
A qualified Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA).

All Projects are confidential, never published, seen only by a marker and moderator and sometimes
by an external examiner, and are kept in a secure area

The cost of the degree is currently 188GBP for submission in the next session (November 2014) this
price will change for future sessions.
