1.1 INTRODUCTION:
Our project Admission System in Universities is for the guidance of the
students of college. The students will be able to now that the admission system of
universities is the !uite different from the school and college systems.
"or our research and to complete our project we chose #nternational
#slamic University #slamabad $##U#% and our faculty was the &"aculty of Social Sciences
$"SS%'.
1.2 EXISTING SYSTEM:
The university has the semester system for its academic programs.
Admission is announced in fall and spring semesters. #n most faculties the admission
remains open( in both semesters.
The system can be divided as under)
Advertisement:
The advertisement of the admission is published mostly in the print media.
#n which the criteria of eligibility for different programs is given.
Prospectus:
To get the university prospectus is practically a first step for admission. An
application form is attached with it( which should be filled correctly and be sent to the
concerned office before the target date. The candidates are issued a roll no slip( indicating
the date and time of test and interview.
Eligibility and Test:
The candidate should be eligible for the program applied for. The criterion
of the eligibilities is given in prospectus. At the due date( the test is held. The candidate
should pass the test.
Result and Interview:
The list of the candidates who !ualify the written test is displayed on the
notice board motioning the date of interview. The interview of the candidates is held
according to scheduled program. The final selection is based on the performance of
candidates in written test( interview and their academic performance.
Admission Letter:
The list of the !ualified students is displayed on the notice board. The
admission letter is issued to the !ualified candidates. #n which the directions for the
candidate are given( e.g. the fee structure and last date of fee submission.
Course Registration:
After the fee submission the registration of the course is re!uired( which is
registered by the proposed faculty.
1.3 PROBLEMS:
There are some problems in this e*isting system( that can be described as
below+
Date Redundancy:
,ue to no use of #nternet and the computer( this problem e*ists in the
traditional file system of the universities. The name( phone( address( and roll no or any
other information can be duplicated in different files and can be mi*ed up.
Data Inconsistency:
,ata can't be upgraded in the e*isting system easily. #f any info of the
candidate is to be changed or upgraded( it is difficult to change it on registers( e.g. when a
candidate has to change his proposed faculty( due to his roll no this problem may e*ists.
Data Saring:
The data in the registers can't be share easily to any other faculty( of a
specific candidate.
1.4 PROPOSED SYSTEM:
The admission system is completely managed by the computers and there is
a wide use of #nternet) i.e. the best for the university. #t's also comfortable for the
candidates. The system can be described as+
Advertisement:
The admission notification is published on the #nternet as well as the print
and electronic media. The ad is the free of mistaes( the phone numbers are correct) and
the fee structure is given in the ad of all faculties.
Prospectus:
The prospectus is available online $i.e. only the criteria and the little detail
of faculty% and also available at the university at reasonable price. The application form is
attached in the prospectus and also available online. "or online application form the
candidate should send the pay order of -s .//01 only( to the university. After this the roll
no slip is issued to the candidate for the test and interview.
Eligibility and Test:
The eligibility for all the faculties is given separately online and also in the
prospectus. The test is held at the university and also it is taen online at the target date.
Result And Interview:
The result of the written test is available online( and at university where the
list is displayed( mentioning the date of interview. The candidates are interviewed by the
faculty admission committee. The final selection is based on the performance of
candidates in written test( interview and their academic performance.
Admission Letter:
The result of the interview is available online as well as the list is
displayed. The admission letter is issued to the !ualified candidates so that each candidate
receives the letter at his mailing address.
Course Registration:
The course can be registered online and also at the university.
1.5 SCOPE:
The wide use of the #nternet and computers decreases the problems lie data
redundancy( data inconsistency and data sharing.
The scope can be describe as+
!o Data Redundancy:
#n the proposed system it is difficult that data is duplicated. The specific
conditions are given to the ,atabase System( so the specific roll no can't be duplicated.
!o Data Inconsistency:
The data of the candidate can be easily upgraded in the e*isting system. #f
the info of the candidate has to change or there is any change is wanted then there is no
problem to upgrade database.
Data Saring:
The data can be easily shared to the other faculty. 2hen the candidate has
to change his applied faculty then no matter to for the operators to share it.
Saving E""orts:
The proposed system is causes the saving of time( efforts and money etc of
the candidate and the university also.
