Notes on Master Planning for an IT Complex:

- Similar to the planning of office complexes except that buildings are provided with facilities for
large scale server rooms and control room.
- A server room requires a dedicated room that is air-conditioned and highly secure. Each office
should have a server room. Therefore an IT office building has several server rooms.
- IT complexes employ advanced facilities and features such as fences with detectors, screening
machines and various kinds of sensors all around the site.
- Elevators are high speed.
- Escalators may be necessary.
- Most facilities are automated.
- Top of the line computers are used and managed in the respective offices.
- Being a highly mechanized complex, an IT Complex, therefore has a warm temperature.
Regulate the temperature through air conditioning and provision for greens and trees since it is
established that trees and landscapes decrease the temperature of the environment by at least
2 degrees lower or more.
- The complex is highly secured because it contains expensive computers and server systems that
cost millions.
- Provide adequate security facilities and guard stations.
- Provide dog houses for the K9-units that usually linger around the site.
- Identify spots for CCTV cameras and a room for CCTV viewing.
- An IT complex is a national pride. Design must display a world class appeal modern,
unobstructed, generously spaced, well lighted, etc. Also, it is often visited by foreigners and
investors so design must also be impressive and excellent.
- Properly plan for people and vehicular movement.
- Design the complex in such a way that it can still function in case of power failure. Provide
Genset, design large windows, provide sun shades or louvers for the windows.
