This documentation applies to all themes distributed
by ChurchThemes.
The example images used in this guide are from the Urban City theme, but if you
hae purchased another theme, all functionality !ill be the same.

(e)e put a great deal of effort into ma&ing our themes easy to use so that you
can focus your time and energy on your people. This Getting Started Guide is all
the information you need to get your Theme up and running.

yourtheme0de.+ip1 contains seeral files. This guide !ill focus on t!o folders
!ithin that .+ip file# The theme .+ip file and the plugins folder.

What You'll Need
This guide starts at the most basic leel, so all you)ll need to begin is an
installation of (ord.ress /aailable from (ord.ress.org1.

I. Install/Activate Your Theme
*nstalling a Theme is a ery simple process.
1. 6og in to the (ord.ress "dministration .anel
9. Select the "ppearance panel, then Themes.
:. Select *nstall Themes
3. Select Upload.
4. Use the Upload lin& in the top sub%menu to upload a +ipped copy of your
Theme that you hae preiously do!nloaded to your machine.
;. "fter the Theme has uploaded, select "ctiate.

II. Install/Activate Third Party Pluins
These (ord.ress .lugins are not re8uired to use your theme, but they are highly
recommended as they !ill enhance the functionality of your !ebsite. These
plugins are neither deeloped nor maintained by ChurchThemes, but are included
in your do!nload for your conenience.

1. *n the (ord.ress "dministration .anel, select the .lugins panel, then "dd
=e!.
9. Use the Upload lin& in the top sub%menu to upload a +ipped copy of the
follo!ing plugins found in the plugins folder of your ChurchThemes -o!nload
.ac&age.

,ents @anager is a fully%featured eent registration management tool including
recurring eents, locations management, calendar, Google map integration,
boo&ing management. Simply put, it adds an eent calendar to your !ebsite.

III. Con!iure Permalin"s
This step is critical for the correct functioning of your "rchies.
1. *n your (ord.ress "dministration .anel, naigate to Settings A .ermalin&s.
9. Select the Custom Structure radio button.
:. Type $BpostnameB$ into the text input box.
3. Select Sae Changes.

This section !ill address issues relating to setting up @enus in (ord.ress, so it is
a bit more adanced than simply installing the theme. Co!eer, this procedure is
ery important and specific to ChurchThemes, so !e are including it in this
Getting Started Guide to ensure you are able to set up your menus 8uic&ly and
easily.
(hen setting up a @enu in (ordpress, there are seeral !ays to create lin&s to
content on your site. <or instance, you can simply lin& to a page, or you can
create custom lin&s and add them to your @enu. /@ore information on (ord.ress

"n "rchie is a list of your posts /or custom post types1. *t is a ery common
!ay to display your content. -ue to the limitations of (ord.ress there are t!o
!ays ChurchThemes lin&s to "rchies.

". Creating a .ost "rchie
This step applies to .osts only /not Sermons, .eople, 6ocations, etc1. *t is used
for creating a list of .osts, most li&ely in the form of a blog or ne!s section.
1. Create a ne! .age /not .ost1, and title it !hateer you li&e. * our example,
!e)ll use D>logE.
9. 6eae the content area blan&.
:. *n the right sidebar, under .age "ttributes, change the Template to >log.
3. Clic& .ublish.

4. =aigate to your @enu by selecting "ppearance A @enus.
;. Under .ages, select the chec&box next to D>logE and clic& "dd to @enu.

6in&ing to ,ents @anager is ery similar to lin&ing to a >log on your @enu.
-uring installation of the plugin, a .age called D,entsE is created for your
conenience.

C. "dding " Sermon$.eople$6ocation "rchie.
Fnce again, an "rchie is a listing of your posts. Sermons, .eople and 6ocations
are Custom .ost Types, so they can be simply thought of as blog posts of !ith
special features.
Creating a listing of one of these types is ery simple. <or our example, !e)ll add
a Sermon "rchie to our @enu.

9. Under Custom 6in&s, type your U?6 follo!ed by $sermons$.

This same procedure is used for .eople and 6ocations, simply substitute $people$
or $locations$ for $sermons$.

The text that !e)re adding to the end of your U?6 is called a slu. *f you)d li&e to
customi+e your slug, /e.g, if you )d li&e to change $people$ to $staff$1 2ou can do
that under .eople A Settings A "rchie Slug. Gust ma&e sure you update the lin&
on your @enu.
