Retail Trust Search For A Star is a nationwide search for retail’s
most popular talent act and we need you! We are searching
for singers, dancers, bands, comedians, variety acts, and other
talents to represent the retail industry. If you believe you have
what it takes to entertain the nation then follow the step by step
guide to apply and you could find yourself winning the grand prize
and performing at the live grand final at the Retail Trust London
Ball at Grosvenor House in London on January 25th 2010!

STEP BY STEP GUIDE

Thank you for showing us you’ve got talent by taking the first step to enter Retail Trust Search For A
Star. It’s simple to apply, just follow the step by step guide.

STEP 1: Check the terms and conditions section at the end of the application form to
make sure you’re eligible to enter Retail Trust Search For A Star. Remember at
least 50% of your act and your lead performer must work or have previously
worked in the retail industry to be eligible to take part.

STEP 2: You now need to record your talent. You can get someone to film you performing
your talent for 30 seconds on a mobile phone, camcorder or any other electronic
device and then upload it onto YouTube. You will need to create an account with
YouTube to do this and provide us with a link to your act. Alternatively, you can
post it to us (cd/dvd,mp3, etc) along with your application form clearly stating
your name and contact number. If you have questions about how to upload your
clip onto YouTube, please check out our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) at

STEP 3: Download and complete the application form in full and send it back to us. Any
sections that are not completed will not be considered and your application will
not be accepted.
You should sign, scan and send in your application via email to
applications@retailtrustsearchforastar.com. Remember to include the URL
address to your clip on YouTube, i.e. www.youtube.com

STEP 4: Practice your talent and wait to hear from us. If your application has been
successful we will contact you by October 2009 to invite you to be part
of the Retail Trust Search For A Star Auditions Roadshow!

HOW IT WORKS

Application
As soon as we receive your completed application form and audition clip we will watch it. If
successful, you’ll be invited to take part in the Retail Trust Search For A Star Auditions Roadshow
and you will perform live in front of an audience and panel of judges.

AuditionS Roadshow
You will have up to 3 minutes to show the judges your talent. Once your act is finished, the judges
will give you feedback and then decide (once all acts at all locations have performed) who will go
through to the top 50 stage.

After the Auditions Roadshow

Following the Auditions Roadshow the top 50 acts will be selected to move through to the next
round. If you are one of these remaining acts, you will have your performance and profile
broadcast online at www.retailtrustsearchforastar.com where you will face the public text vote. You
will be provided with publicity hints/tips to help raise your profile and also give you pointers on
how to get more votes!

The Final

The four acts that receive the most text votes by 16th December 2009 will be treated to an
exclusive trip to London staying at the five* Grosvenor House where they will perform live at the
Retail Trust London Ball 2010. As well as access to life coaching, celebrity styling and red carpet
treatment, the winners will win a trip to Monaco and the chance to perform live at Terminal 5
Heathrow and their show beamed across World Duty Free’s Media Channel live at all BAA airports.
Winners will also win an exclusive case of champagne, be interviewed like a celebrity and win many
more fantastic prizes which can be viewed at www.retailtrustsearchforastar.co.uk/prizes.asp.

Dear Applicant,
This Application / Release sets out the terms of your application to take part in the Project, and, if
you are selected, the terms of your Contribution and participation in the Project.
Application
(a) Participation in the Project is only open to
applicants who work in or have worked in the
retail industry. If you are part of a performing
group at least 50% of the group’s members must
work in retail and the lead performer must work in
or have worked in retail.
(b) Your application will only be considered if
this Application / Release is properly signed
and dated. If you are under 18 years old this
Application / Release must be also signed
by your parent or legal guardian, and you
must be accompanied by your parent or
legal guardian at any audition and at the
Project itself.
(c) Application / Releases must be submitted as
soon as possible. Any forms received after 26th
October 2009 will not be considered.
(d) The information given by you in this Application
/ Release may be used in the run up to, during,
and after the Retail Trust London Ball, should
you be selected. All personal details and/or
information given in this Form or otherwise must
be truthful, accurate and in no way misleading.
We reserve the right to disqualify you if you
have supplied untruthful, inaccurate or
misleading personal details and/or information,
have failed to abide by the rules and/or are in
breach of the terms hereof.
(e) You must be resident in the UK or Republic
of Ireland with a valid passport. You may be
asked to provide documentation in order to
substantiate your age.
(f) You must disclose to us details of any/all
criminal or civil actions pending against you
currently and/or served against you and/or
any unspent convictions.
(g) You must notify us in advance if you intend to
perform physical and/or dangerous stunts, and
you must explain the full nature of the stunt.
(h) You must also notify us in advance if you
intend to use any form of equipment as part
of your act. Provided that we have confirmed
that the equipment is permitted, you will be
responsible for bringing such equipment to
the event, and are responsible for ensuring
that such equipment is safe and/or suitable
for its purposes. For the avoidance of doubt,
pyrotechnics are not permitted.
(i) Applicants will be selected at the sole discretion
of Retail Trust, whose decision will be final
Release
In the event that you are selected to participate in
the Project, then, in consideration of our giving
you the opportunity to provide us with the
Contribution, and of our arranging to film and
record the Contribution:
(a) You agree to abide by all rules, regulations, and
reasonable requests relating to the Project. Our
decision on all such matters shall be final;
(b) You agree to release personal information as
set out in this application to your sponsor (if
applicable). You agree to the recording and
exploitation of the Contribution (which may
include literary, dramatic or music works), and
hereby grant to us all rights, including
without limitation copyright and performers’
property rights in such Contribution and
all consents necessary to enable us to
make the fullest use of the Contribution
worldwide in perpetuity in any and all media,
whether now known or hereafter developed
or discovered, without payment, liability (save
as specifically set out in this agreement) or
acknowledgement to you;
(c) You acknowledge and agree that we shall be
entitled to edit, copy, add to, adapt or translate
the Contribution at our discretion and, in respect
of the Contribution, you hereby irrevocably waive
in favour of us, our assignees and licensees the
benefit of all moral rights and performers’ rights
arising under the Copyright, Designs and Patents
Act 1988 or similar rights arising under the laws of
any jurisdiction;
(d) You grant us the right to issue publicity relating
to the Contribution, the Project and any other film
or programme in which it may be included and
to use and publish the Contribution, your name,
photograph or likeness, and details about you
for such purposes.
 (e) We do not undertake to broadcast, exhibit or
otherwise exploit the Contribution. You warrant
and undertake that:
(i) You are fully entitled to grant all rights in the
Contribution to us;
(ii) You agree to the inclusion of the Contribution
to the Project and in any film of the Project, the
(vii) You will not, prior to first public transmission
nature of which has been explained to you;
(iii) Nothing in the Contribution shall infringe the
copyright or any other right of any third party
or breach any contract or duty of confidence,
constitute a contempt of court or be defamatory
or blasphemous;
taking part in it which came to your knowledge as
a result of your participation in the Project; and
(vi) You acknowledge that we shall not be
liable for any loss, damage or injury suffered
by you in connection with your participation
in the Project other than death or personal
injury caused by our negligence;
of the Project, give to any person for publication
in any media any interview or make or release
any statement, photographs or other material
relating to you, or containing any performance by
you similar to the Contribution or relating to similar
subject matter without our prior written approval;

(iv) You are at least 18 years old (or, if you are not,
your parent or guardian has accepted the terms
of this Application / Release on your behalf by
signing below);
(v) You shall keep confidential and shall not
disclose to any third party any confidential
information, photographs or other material
relating to the Producer or the Project or anyone
(viii) You hereby indemnify us irrevocably
against all and any costs, claims, expenses
and liabilities (including, without limitation,
legal fees and any sums paid on the advice
of counsel) resulting from the breach by you of
any of your obligations under this agreement.
(f) Our rights under this agreement may be freely
assigned or licensed by us.

This agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with English law and will be
subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
