One big controversy was the AIDS epidemic.

This was a huge deal worldwide because millions of people

were getting infected as the use of drugs and sexual activities went on the rise. Although in America this
epidemic hit the homosexual community first, it spread really fast amidst the heterosexuals due to
bisexual infected people and the sharing of drug needles.
Another controversy was the new right to life: movement which attacked the abortion right for women
in America. This was challenged because abortion was the number one surgery performed in the states
and religious communities began to fight against the murder of children. Although the law gave
women the right to abort, government programs stopped funding or sponsoring abortion procedures
meaning that low income people could no longer have the option to abort a pregnancy. This leads to a
controversy because wealthier people can abort all they want while low income people give birth to
more and more children stuck in the low income pool. Essentially this movement hurts the little guy
more than anyone. Still, the battle raged on for a women right over her body and the right to choose
what to do with it. The other argument was trying to figure out at which stage is a fetus considered a
living human and at which stage is it okay to abort and at which is it not.
Another controversy was the Global Warming crises lead by Al Gore. Since the companies in America
went unsupervised for so long, they essential pumped waste into the environment to the point where
the entire planet was affected and the global climate was beginning to change. This was controversial
because it was a very slow change and people didnt want to believe that this was happening. But
certain points of evidence as the melting ice caps and the rise in CO2 levels around the globe were uses
to defend the need to regulate the amount of pollution that is being pumped into the atmosphere.
With Americas super environmentalist polices, it was looking as though America was policing the world
in order to boost its own economy. Things the like the Iraq war and the Gulf war were done only
because they benefited the states. Companies were taking advantage of developing countries and their
low wage systems to produce products for America. Companies took factories that produce pollution to
other countries which lacked any legislation against that sort of thing. People were beginning to oppose
this new world order that the West was pushing onto everyone. This lead to orthodoxies in the East to
grow in power because the West had invade their lands and they banded together to try to oppose this
exploitation. This lead to some severe terrorism all around the world. Most notably the destruction of
the twin towers on Sep. 11 2001 which leads America to wake up from its ignorance on the subject and
take action. This lead to the war on Terror which allowed the US to invade Iraq and Afghanistan in
search of AL Qaeda and eventually locking up several suspected terrorist without proper trial, even
taking away their basic human rights and torturing many. Alongside finding terrorist the US claimed they
were also searching for weapons of mass destruction. But after a long and costly war on terror which
produced little results yet cost lifes, the people lost faith in their leader and their policies of invading
other countries on little evidence. The globalization of America took a hit from this conflict over terror,
one they have ye to recover from.
