FINANCIAL HIGHLIGHTS
A COUPLE OF HIGHLIGHTS: IN THE BLACK While not a significant amount our financial year saw WTDCC return a positive result see the full figures detailed in the Annual Report on the web site, to you by email, or contact Denis Brien for a copy. THE CANTEEN Latisha Polkinghorne took charge of the canteen and assisted by Richard Williams and Alan Hutton the return has exceeded expectations. SPONSORSHIP The efforts of Tim Allen and Brenton Woolford resulted in just over $9K to the bottom line a great effort with this base becoming the base for further effort. NON PLAYING SUBSCRIPTIONS A good return but could be much better given the supporter base of the Club. This is where YOU come in make 2014/2015 our best ever! Full details in the AGM Eagle Eye.
PLAYING THIS COMING SEASON Appointments are: Senior Men: Senior Coach - Adam Rumbelow Cricket Director - Brenton Woolford Chairman Selectors - Roger Dugan As we are aware WTDCC has had an outstanding success rate with our juniors in the Bank SA Shield this is at U17 level. Many of those winning juniors are now gravitating to senior level. A decision not to actively recruit but develop from within has been taken! We have lost a couple but there are players returning as well and we are looking for players to develop what was shown late last season. It looks good! Appointments are: Senior Women: Senior Coach - Susie Smith Cricket Coordinator To be advised Appointments are: J uniors Cricket Coordinator To be advised on J unior Committee meeting.
ONE OF OUR BEST MOVES TO QUEENSLAND
Sadly, (for WTDCC), Peter George and wife Suzie, and their lovely dog Maverick, are moving to Queensland to pursue Peters ambition to regain his spot in First Class cricket. (Another lost to SACA?). At the Annual General Meeting Peters contribution was recognised by club President, Denis Brien, and club Coach, Adam Rumbelow. Rumbles endorsed Rockas comments and gave an insight to Peters statistics. While Peter is best noted for his accurate fast bowling Rumbles highlighted his lower order batting which got us over the line in the preliminary final in our last premiership year with a grand final and premiership the result of his dedicated performance. Peter is not noted for big scores, with quick scores being the order of the day subject to the match position. You didnt have to wait around too long for the runs to accumulate normally straight drives for six! A club man who was always available to assist younger players and a player developed from within our junior structure. A person the WTDCC is proud to have been associated in his rise to Test Cricket status. No doubt Peter has his eye on emulating Ryan Harris and getting his First Class career, and higher, back. Universally all WTDCC wish him and Suzie well in their endeavours. Rocka will produce Peters statistics in full in the Eagle Eye including his 2 test wickets with him rocketing Sachin Tendulka out alas, for Australia, Sachin was on 214 at the time!
VOLUNTEERS Volunteers are pivotal to our existence. So are active supporters, particularly at home matches each Saturday and on most Sundays. Matches are scheduled at our home ground Henley and Grange Memorial Oval. Volunteering is a two way affair too. A volunteer gets the satisfaction of: knowing his or her contribution makes a difference provides an interest in an activity beneficial to the community and self meet and make friends with persons of like interest And we do need you.
THERE ARE VARIOUS COMMITTEES (OTHER THAN THE EXECUTIVE) VOLUNTEERS ARE REQUESED TO CONSIDER SERVING ON.
GRADE CRICKET REVIEW The topic of the moment is the SACA Grade Cricket Review. SACA wish to: reduce the number of grade clubs to 10 establish a further club to the north of Adelaide to service the Barossa Valley and areas north perhaps based at Gawler or near-by, and resource Southern Districts to rejuvenate the southern area. The outcomes envisaged are: provide a much more competitive and higher skilled grade competition increase the expertise of players vide the higher level of competition (make SA more competitive in inter-State competition) expand the grade competition to service a larger metropolitan area provide a grade club throughout the greater metropolitan area and several other initiatives including a re-vamp of the country zones The SACA review paper has been prepared (over the past 12 months) and SACA officials are now engaging with club committees to discuss the proposal. Several clubs have been invited to consider a merger with other neighbouring clubs. It has been suggested WTDCC consider a merger. The club mentioned in the report is Glenelg. The report has only just been provided to the Board of Management and it is too early to provide any responses as the board has not had a chance to meet and discuss the matter in detail. SACA board member Rod Phillips (a long time grade cricketer/coach) is leading the meetings with Shane Bernhardt from SACA administration assisting. A result is not expected to be known for about two years, and should action be taken to move to a merger THE MATTER WILL BE PUT TO MEMBERS FOR A FINAL DECISION vide the provisions within WTDCC Constitution.
CLUB CONSTITUTION AMENDED Members were advised of the need to change WTDCC Constitution (in minimal ways) so that the constitution reflected what was being done in practice. These amendments: date of financial year to conclude on 30 April Annual General Meeting to be conducted subsequent to completion of financial year, but prior to the 31 J uly following. These amendments were put, and carried, and they now become the guiding dates. For your information the previous dates did not allow sufficient time to have the books audited for presentation at the Annual General Meeting.
