THU 26 JUNE Location: Oak Room (Westin Executive Meeting Centre) Level 1 Down stairs at left of check-in area.

Situated on the famous Rideau Canal with stunning views of Parliament Hill and only steps from the Byward Market, the Westin
Ottawa is the perfect hotel base for exploring Canadas capital city. The hotel is 100% non-smoking and view rooms can be
booked for an upgrade fee. Free Internet is available on site. For additional information about Ottawa and arrival at the airport,
see the Detailed Travel Handout. Please check-in on your own on arrival. All rooms are charged to our Group Master Account but
individual credit cards must be provided for incidentals. Those who prefer to arrive earlier in Ottawa or later in Montral can do
so at the programs negotiated ratebut payable separately from the programs group booking. Ask Tina about how to book.

Note: Dinner (On Own) To suit the agenda and time zone changes, plan to have dinner before 4pm or after 8pm.

7-8pm Discover the Hill Walking Tour Walk together to flame in front of the Parliament Buildings to meet our
guide who will lead us on a 60-minute learning adventure. The tour includes information about the National
War Memorial, historic Sparks Street, Parliament Hill, and the Rideau Canal. Youll learn how Canada's Capital
has evolved from a rough-and-tumble town into a very special and sophisticated region. No charge.

8-9:15am A Regional Geography of Canada Dr. Matthew Farish, Department of Geography, University of Toronto

12-1:30pm The Canadian Political System: A Comparative Perspective Dr. Christopher Sands, Senior Fellow, Hudson

1:45-3pm An Overview of the Worlds Largest Trade Relationship Dr. Paul Storer, Economics Department, WWU


3:30-5:30pm VIP Tour of Parliament Meet in lobby and walk together to Visitor's Welcome Centre (Centre Block) to meet our
guide and perhaps even a Member of Parliament (MP) or MP member of the Canada-United States Inter-
Parliamentary Group. Security screening will take place prior to tour. Cameras allowed. No charge.

8:15-8:45am Resources for Teaching about Canada Tina Storer, Center for Canadian-American Studies, WWU
9am-Noon Canadian Museum of Civilization* We will walk (1/2-hr) or share taxis ($3pp) over the Alexandra Bridge for
check-in at the CMC Group Tour Desk. Self-guided tours upon entry The following halls are recommended:
1) First Peoples Hall - Discover the history and continuing presence of Aboriginal people in Canada.
2) Canada Hall - Journey through 1,000 years of Canada's history and experience the richness of her past.
NB:The museums cafeteria offers wonderful views of the Ottawa River and the Library of Parliament.
Noon Exploring the National Capital Region Free time to take a 1/2-day city tour and/or visit other nearby museums.

SUN 29 JUNE Location: Oak Room (Westin Executive Meeting Center) Level 1 - Transfer by Coach to Montral

7-8am Group Breakfast Continental Breakfast is provided in the Oak Room (boxes available for dining on the bus)

8:15am Depart for Montral The journey will include a stop at Parc Mont Royal, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. Mont
Royal is the physical and spiritual heart of Montral and its lookout affords wonderful city views.

The Htel Gouverneur Place Dupuis Montral is a comfortable business-class hotel conveniently located near the cultural
crossroads of MontrealSaint-Denis Street and Sainte-Catherine Streetby the UQAM campus, adjacent to Old Montral, and
directly connected to the bus station and Berri-UQAM metro station that, in turn, connects you to all of Montral. Its location in
the Latin Quarter offers easy access to many restaurants and outdoor cafs, theatres and shops. Inside the hotel youll find an
indoor salt water pool, sauna, fitness and business centers. The hotel also has a restaurant, Le Vignoble, and bar, lImprvu. Free
high-speed wireless internet access is freely available everywhere in the hotel.

11:30am Bus Drop-off and Check-in at the Hotel Gouverneur Place Dupuis Montral.

12:30pm-4pm Group Lunch and Afternoon Cultural Explorations (Lunch Sponsor TBA)
Walk together for lunch at Crperie Chez Suzette* (3 St-Paul St. E) Afterwards, enjoy a local color walking tour of
the Vieux Port and the historic city led by a resident guide. If certain sites draw greater personal interest or require
more attention, participants are free to explore further on their own and have dinner at leisure.

10:30am-Noon Evaluations, Next Steps and Closing Comments

Note: Hotel Check-Out It is advised that flights home to the US should depart 3pm or later to accommodate travel
time to Dorval Airport (by Metro or taxi), airport check-in, and inspections by both Security and Customs.

The 747 bus line service runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, between Montreals central bus station (Gare
d'autocars de Montral at the Berri-UQAM mtro station near our hotel) and the Montral-Trudeau airport.
Travel time may vary between 45 to 60 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. Fare is $10. For more info,
