Detachable grip for bicable and tricable gondola lifts. The LEITNER
grips are designed for use as single detachable grips for up to
16-passenger gondolas in the case of the bicable system and for
35-passenger cabins on a tricable installation. The grips operate
on the same basic principle as the tried and tested LEITNER grip
used on monocable systems. The release and closure mechanism
is a simple design that works without cams or complicated linkage,
and the grip has just one moving part, namely the grip jaw. When
no spring force is applied, the grip remains closed.
Track ropes. The track ropes can be permanently anchored on
concrete bollards in the stations, with rope grips used to absorb
residual tension. The permanent anchor system ensures that the
catenary curves for the full and empty track ropes are as close to
each other as possible. This reduces the stroke required for the
haul rope as well as the difference between the rope angles at the
rope saddles on the empty and full lines.
Haul rope. The haul rope for the bi- and tricable system is a contin-
uous loop supported on rubber-lined sheaves on the towers and in
Rising to the challenge. The bi- and tricable systems are designed
to cope with the most difficult conditions. The use of separate track
and haul ropes permits lines to be designed with extremely long
spans of 2,500m and more for effortless negotiation of steep and
rocky slopes with impressive vertical heights. Therefore the envi-
ronment does not suffer thanks to a minimized number of towers
for a reduced footprint. Even with its long spans, the bi- and tri-
cable gondola performs extremely well in windy conditions. Such
details as rope saddles with a large angle of wrap, deep sheave
grooves, side plates and rope guides all combine to eliminate the
risk of deropement even at wind speeds of over 100 km/h.
Passenger-friendly. The bi- and tricable gondola is an advanced
transportation system for both the discerning operator and the
demanding passenger. With a transport capacity of over 5,000 pas-
sengers per hour and impressive line speeds of up to 7 meters per
second, the bi- and tricable gondola lift is the system of choice for
high-volume traffic areas and reduced transit times. In combination
with the smooth ride, this means operators can be sure of having
lots of satisfied customers.

the stations. As in the case of a reversible, the haul rope is elec-
trically insulated for ground fault monitoring, which is an important
safety feature.
Drive. The drive assembly of the bi- and tricable gondola system
consists of a horizontal bullwheel with antifriction bearings, the
main support frame, and the drive components, i.e. gearbox (over-
head or basement type), torsion shaft, flexible coupling, disc brake,
electromagnetic service brake and hydraulic emergency brake. For
the standby drive, the system also includes a diesel engine and
hydraulic motor, which drive the bullwheel via a ring gear.
Evacuation equipment for every emergency. On normal terrain with
low ground clearance, the abseil technique is used for gondola
evacuation. For difficult terrain and higher ground clearance, the
bi- and tricable gondola system incorporates an evacuation car
that runs along the track ropes.
New gondola, old line. The bicable and tricable gondola lift is not
only a fine solution for new installations. It is also the ideal choice
for upgrade projects involving the replacement of old reversible
systems, since it permits the existing line and tower locations to
be retained while greatly increasing transport capacity.
Bicable and tricable gondolas for urban transit applications.
Thanks to their low energy consumption, impressive transport
capacities, and high standards of operating safety and availabi-
lity in strong winds, bi- and tricable gondola lifts are an attractive
alternative for urban transit applications.
Always at your service. After final commissioning, LEITNER
guarant ees a full service offering, with advisory support and
round-the-clock field service engineering.
