Suggestion 1: Consider virtually every issue you deal with as a symptom.
,reviously, I wrote an article titled the %8 "tum(ling 4locs of EFT&! The article (elow,
on 10 9ays to Ensure "uccess with EFT, is a revised version of the 8 "tum(ling
4locs series! First, %10 9ays& reframes everything in the positive as %ideas for
improvement& as opposed to %what to avoid& 6nd second, I:ve added several new
suggestions to improve the results of your EFT sessions!
EF is more o! an art than a science, and we:re still learning the enormous
possi(ilities of this incredi(le tool! 9e do now, however, these things for sure#
In the right hands EFT can produce miraculous results!
+any simple issues such as fears, stress, anger, pain, frustration and hundreds
of other non.complex pro(lems can often (e eradicated in a few minutes with
EFT!
Even someone new to EFT can often get ama;ing results 50< of the time..
that:s an extraordinary percentage that the medical profession would love to
have!
+ultifaceted or complex issues, such as trauma, chronic anxiety, a(use,
serious illnesses, and depression usually re=uire the sill of an experienced EFT
practitioner!
EFT often wors when everything else has failed!
In silled hands EFT can wor over 8/< of the time!
6nd here:s the most important thing we:ve learned#
There are many techni=ues, ha(its and concepts that can mae EFT even more
effective, which is the (asis of this article!
4ecoming aware of and implementing these simple steps can increase EFT:s
effectiveness significantly, even for a (eginner! I will detail these items in this multi.
part series!
Suggestion 1: Consider virtually every issue you deal with as a symptom.
Then rather than treating the symptom, loo for the cause and eliminate it!
Traditional medicine typically treats symptoms, while EFT eradicates the cause of the
pro(lem! For instance, if you have a pain in your finger you could >ust tae a pain pill
or a typical painiller and hope to deaden the pain! ?r you might loo closer at your
finger and discover a tiny splinter is causing the pro(lem! @emove the splinter, the
source of the pain, and the finger immediately feels (etter!
This same principle wors as well on emotional issues as physical ailments! 6s an
example, ,%Aoey&, a woman of a(out */, was having trou(le remem(ering simple
things, lie what had >ust (een discussed in a (usiness meeting she was in! "he also
had trou(le remem(ering the childhoods of her children and many other things! 9e
could have simply tapped on %this memory pro(lem& and might have eventually
gotten results! Instead I did some detective wor and discovered what I (elieved to
(e the source of her memory pro(lem!
9hen she was 17 Aoey had an a(ortion and was very ashamed of it! 9henever she
would see children playing together, or mothers snuggling their (a(ies, she would get
very upset! $hildren and (a(ies, and several other things, caused her to thin a(out
the a(ortion, prompting more shame and guilt! This in turn caused more remorse and
depression! It seemed apparent to me that Aoey had (asically %taught& herself not to
(e very aware of what was happening around her and more importantly taught
herself not.to.remem(er!
6fter this discovery we tapped on her letting go of the shame, remorse, and guilt
from the a(ortion, using a formula I use with most issues! For Aoey the set.up
statement went something lie thisB %Even though I feel guilty and ashamed a(out
having the a(ortion, I want to love and accept myself!& 9e used the reminder
statements of %this shame, guilt and remorse, or a(ortion regret!& ?n the second and
third rounds I helped Aoey %vent& (y saying phrases on each tapping point that gave
voice to what she:s (een saying to herself for years! For instanceB %I shouldn:t have
let it happen! I should have raised that child! I:m so ashamedC 9hy did I do itD I
must (e a horri(le personC&
6fter a round or two of that I then gradually shifted to a more forgiving tone saying
phrase such as these on each tapping point %I:ve (een (eating myself up for years
a(out this!& %4ut I didn:t now any (etter!& %I was >ust a id myself!& %Eow much
longer do I have to punish myself for thisD& %I want to let this go!& %I want to forgive
myself!& %I:m a good mother and wife now&, etc! %I want to get over this pain!&
It did the tric! 9ithin seconds after getting the intensity down to a ;ero Aoey starting
remem(ering things a(out her children:s lives! "he was thrilled and so relieved to let
go of the guilt she:d carried for all those years! 9hen I followed up a few days later,
Aoey said she was remem(ering all of the things she had (een having difficulties with
(efore!
This whole process too less than an hour and was lasting! 0oing for the cause right
away, I feel is a faster, more direct way to deal with most pro(lems!

Suggestion ": ap on #oth sides o! the #ody
Aust a(out anyone who has done EFT, including me, has had good results tapping on
>ust one side of the (ody! Eowever, I learned EFT from an acupuncturist who taught
me a lot a(out the meridian system! 6nd with EFT, of course, we:re using the (ody:s
meridian system to release (loced energy! The meridian system is made up of 1*
meridians, (ranching out into hundreds of tiny energy pathways!
These pathways are (ilateral, so when you tap on one side of the (ody you:re sending
tiny little shoc waves, or vi(rations down through your meridians and up and around
to the other side of your (ody! 4y tapping you:re opening the (loced meridian
associated with your particular issue, wherever it may (e! 9ith that in mind, if you
are tapping on the right side of the (ody only, and the (locage is (ehind your left
nee, the vi(rations have to travel down the right side of your (ody to the left side of
your nee! 4y then the vi(ration will have lost some of it:s %muscle!&
The thing is, we never now where the (locage is, and we don:t have to! That:s the
(rilliance of 0ary:s EFT! Aust tap on all the points and you:re (ound to hit the one
that:s associated with your issue! If you tap on (oth sides of the (ody you:ll (e
sending the maximum amount of energy down through your (ody on (oth sides to
reach wherever the (locages are!
"o what difference does that maeD 9ell if you can increase your efficiency (y 1/<,
with very little extra effort, or cut your tapping time down on an issue to )0 minutes
instead of */, why not do itD I:m telling you this (ecause over the years I:ve
repeatedly tried it (oth ways! 6nd I (elieve there is a noted reduction in the time it
taes to resolve an issue!
Aust to (e clear EFT wors either way, unilaterally or (ilateral tapping, (ut in my
opinion this small change can mae a significant difference over time! Try it! I thin
you:ll experience it yourself!
Lindsay
Suggestion $: ap on all 1% &eridian 'oints
6s with my tip on tapping on (oth sides of the (ody, this suggestion is a little
controversial! I, and >ust a(out everyone else who has tried EFT, has gotten good and
even great results >ust using the shortcut tapping points taught in 0ary:s wonderful
-2-s! The points normally used are theB eye(row FE4,G side of the eye F"E,G under
the eye FHE,G under the nose FHI,G chin F$E,G collar(one F$4,G and under the arm
FH6G, and they wor >ust great! "o why add more pointsD 9ell, I learned EFT from a
great acupuncturist and super( EFT practitioner, Joe 9alton! 6nd she taught me the
(enefits of using five more meridians, (y tapping on >ust three more points!
I:m an experimenter, >ust lie 0ary! "o I tried it (oth waysB the shortcut of stopping
under the arms which I used hundreds of times and the slightly longer version of
adding the three additional points! I would even try the two techni=ues with the same
client to see if I could tell a distinction! 6nd (y golly I did notice a (ig difference! Iot
>ust a slight one, a significant improvement! +ore on the results in a moment! First let
me tell you a(out these additional points that I feel mae sessions more efficient and
effective!
1( he Liver 'oint: )L'( K Liver 1* in acupuncture terms, can (e found on the
mammilary line, under the nipple, ' ri(s (elow the nipple, a(out where a womanLs
(ra wire would (e! For a man it:s a(out ) inches under his nipples! 4ecause of it:s
%inconvenient positioning& it (egan to (e eliminated in pu(lic forums! Eowever, the
Liver Point is an important meridian for stress, depression, cravings and
anger!
"( *rist + )*,( + The line at the (ase of the hand has ) ma>or meridians Ffind these
points on the inside of the wrist, on the line where the hand (ends to meet the armG!
These ) points are# Eeart 5, ,ericardium 5, and Lung 8! The heart and pericardium
points are great for stress and anxiety and the lung point is good for grief,
heartache and sadness.
$( Crown o! the -ead + )C,-( or .u"/ + This meridian is the meeting point of all
1ang meridians in the (ody! The crown of the head is a powerful contact point for
every issue! 1ou:ll sometimes even see 0ary use this point in more recent videos!
Aust loo at the emotions you:re addressing with those three additional pointsB
stress0 an1iety0 grie!0 hearta2he0 sadness0 depression0 2ravings and anger!
Those are among the most common negative emotions we practitioners deal with
daily!
9hen I would use >ust the 5 tapping points, as we were all initially taught, a typical
reduction in the intensity would (e 10, then 8, then 5, /, ), ', 1, then ;ero! The
average would (e (etween 5 and 8 rounds! That:s not (ad! Traditional therapists
would ill for =uic results lie that! 4ut what I found (y tapping on all 1* meridians
was that issues were getting resolved in even fewer rounds, and seldom got stuc at
any num(er!
4y adding ) more points Fand / additional meridiansG the =uicer drop in intensity
was dramatic! The progression then would typically (eB 10, 3, ), ;ero! The average
(eing (etween ) and / rounds! 6nd here:s why# By adding these additional
points0 you now are tapping on all 1% o! our meridians instead o! a !ew. &ore
#ang !or the #u234 "o (y investing the additional )0 seconds for the three extra
points, I was saving 10, '0 or even )0 minutes on each issue, and with complex
issues, much more!
9ith one issue that may not seem lie a (ig deal, (ut if you are dealing with multiple
challenges or complicated issues the time savings adds up! If you:re a practitioner
dealing with several clients a day it means resolving more of their issues during each
session! That:s a great (enefit for you and the clientC Try it yourself and see if you
notice a difference!

Suggestion %: .eal head+on with reversals
Fthe stu((orn su(conscious that resists letting go of issuesG
$onfronting and neutrali;ing @eversals up front is pro(a(ly the (est way to =uicly
resolve an issue! In fact, if Reversals are unrecognized and untreated they can stop
EFT in its tracks! "o what are @eversals and how do I deal with themD I (rea
@eversals down into two (asic types, each with su(.categories!
5( 6eneral 'olarity ,eversals
The first type of @eversal is what I call 6eneral 'olarity ,eversal or 6',. This
simply means that the electricity or energy in the (ody is MagitatedM, or Mgoing in the
wrong directionM! Therefore the polarity in your (ody is reversed!
6nother way to loo at our (odyLs energy field or polarity is to compare it to (atteries
in a tape recorder, flashlight, or other (attery.operated devices! The (atteries that
run the gadget must (e installed with the positive and negative polarity seated in the
correct direction! If not, the device simply wonLt wor!
"ince your (ody has its own %electrical system& your M(atteriesM need to (e positioned
correctly for you to function properly! If your polarity is scram(led up, you have a
6', @eversal! 9hile uncommon, it does happen, and it is unliely EFT will wor for
you until the @eversal is corrected Fwhich we:ll cover in a momentG!
-ere are some 2auses o! 6',#
NO 7egativity . chronic negative thoughts, negative (ehavior, or negative events
NO Ele2tri2al For2e Fields + 4eing around electrical devices for long periods of
time Fcomputers, cell phones, +,) players, 4lac(erries, T2s etc!G
NO 5ddi2tions . addictive personalities or addictive su(stances in the (ody
NO .epression K chronic depression causes the (ody:s energy system to (ecome
slow or sluggish!
NO Chroni2 'ain 8 the disruption in your entire energy system when you are
responding to constant pain or discomfort can put your (ody in a Pspin:!
NO o1ins 8 6ny toxic su(stance, or even an allergy or food sensitivity can cause
a @eversal
,erforming the standard set.up procedure Fru((ing the sore spot or tapping on the
arate chop point, while saying the set.up statementG will often fix most types of
6',s. Aust doing the set.up statement, however, does not eliminate addictions or
toxin.related 0,@s! The irritating su(stance needs to (e eliminated from the (ody in
most cases!
Eave you ever had one of those days when you %>ust feel off&D 1our timing is out of
whacB you:re dropping your eys or pens, (umping into doorframes, fum(ling for
words or phrases, falling off cur(s etcD $hances are your ,olarity has (ecome
reversed literally causing you to (e out of (alance! The good news is you don:t need
to now why, and it:s very easy to fix!
6 simple, effective way to fix a 6', is to simply (ump your hands together at the
Karate $hop point F(oth sides of the hands against each other, (elow the (ase of the
little finger!G 1ou don:t even have to say anything! Aust do the Karate $hop for 1/.'0
seconds and it generally will re(alance your meridians and fix a simple %general&
@eversal!
B( Se2ondary Bene!it Syndrome or SBS# This is the second and more
prevalent type of Reversal. The "4" reversal occurs when the subconscious mind
perceives that it is (etter, or safer to eep an issue than to eliminate it! $harged
emotions, lie fear, pho(ias, anxiety, shame guilt, grief, anger, etc! are almost always
reversed! +eaning your (ody, or your su(conscious is not willing to let go of the
emotion, or the cause of it!
6s the movie %9hat the QRSCR -o 9e Know& demonstrates, our (odies can actually
(ecome addicted to a negative emotion or issue! 6fter a period of time we (ecome so
accustomed to (eing angry, hurt, anxious, victimi;ed, etc! that our (ody is reluctant
to let go of the emotion! 9hile the negative emotion may (e uncomforta(le to your
conscious mind, it may have (egun to feel natural, or familiar, to the su(conscious
mind! 6nd it:s that little anomaly that most often causes people to thin that EFT
doesn:t wor!
I get hundreds of e.mails a wee from strangers lamenting, %EFT isn:t woring for
me!& They:ve read the many wonderful stories a(out EFT:s 1.minute.miracles, yet
they aren:t getting the results they wanted! SBS ,eversals are most li3ely the
2ause. These types of @eversals are, in my opinion, the (iggest cause of EFT not
woring!
"ince SBS is seldom a conscious choice, most people will initially (al if you tell them
that su(consciously they don:t actually want to get rid of their pro(lem or issue! ?f
course most people don:t consciously want to stay emotionally upset or in physically
pain! 4ut the subconscious is a powerful entity, usually exhi(iting dominance over
our conscious desires!
For someone who has carried around a trauma, chronic pain, anxiety, pho(ia or other
issue for many years, the emotion (ecomes a part of his or her identity! Eow often
have you heard phrases lie %Ee:s an angry young man& or %"he:s >ust such an
anxious person&D ?r how many times have you said, %9hy can:t >ust I get over this
TTTTTTD& ?vercoming or losing that %identity& can (e very threatening to the non-
rational subconscious mind!
For instance, the su#2ons2ious might (e thinkingU 9! 9 get over this issue:
- !t might be scary."
- ! may not know who ! am anymore."
- ! won#t have an e$cuse anymore for my life not working."
- !t may not be safe to let it go."
- ! won#t get the attention or sympathy ! get now."
- ! won#t know how to act as a functional% non-victim person."
- !&m afraid to let go of this fear."
If someone has (een trying to lose weight for a long time, for instance, and hasn:t
(een successful, they are almost certainly reversed on it! $onsciously they want to
lose weight, (ut their dominant, stu((orn su(conscious may (e saying, 'ait a
minute here. !f ! lose weight my clothes won&t fit and !&ll be deprived of the foods !
love. (nd what if ! lose that )* pounds and ! still don&t get that promotion ! need% the
guy !&m lusting after% or the friends ! want+ ,aybe if ! lose that weight !&ll be so
attractive to men that !&ll be abused or harassed again. -r what if ! get skinny and
my life still sucks+
?nce again, remem(er, this is the subconscious mind wielding control over what we
consciously want! It is very difficult, under most circumstances, to consciously
override the more powerful su(conscious mind! If you dou(t that statement, I highly
recommend reading the (oo For $-sG %The 4iology of 4elief& (y 4ruce E! Lipton,
,h-! It:s a powerful documentary a(out why we are the way we are, the power of
perception, and the su(conscious mind!
As long as the subconscious is unwilling to let go of a problem (thats a
Reversal! its very hard to resolve an issue, with or without "#T$
6 good clue as to whether or not a person has a SBS @eversal is if their intensity level
remains the same after a couple of rounds of tapping! The intensity or "H-s level
F"u(>ective Hnit of -istressG is a way to gage the emotional charge of an issue on a
scale of 0.10!
If you:ve had a pro(lem for a long time Fover a monthG then you:re liely @eversed on
it! If it:s a highly charged issue, such as fear, anger, grief, guilt etc! then you:re liely
@eversed! If there:s something you want to accomplish and >ust can:t seem to get
there, then you:re liely @eversed! ?r if you consistently do something you now you
should do Fsmoing, drining, gam(ling, internet porn, etc!G then you:re liely
@eversed on letting it go! 9hen I hear someone say %I:ve had this TTTTTTTT for
years and have tried everything& the phrase %They:re @eversed& immediately comes
to mind!
There are many others reasons, of course, why an issue can be difficult to
resolve$ %ut T&" main reason, in my opinion, is the wic'ed Reversal(
,ES;L<976 SBS 8 he 6ood news4
The good news is it:s very easy to fix an SBS reversal! It:s so easy that people find it
hard to (elieve! Eere:s how it:s done# "imply tap on the arate chop point FK$V (ase
of little finger against (ase of the other little fingerG using a reversal phrase such as
%Even thoughU!&
%UI donLt want to get over this anger For trauma, chronic pain, grief, etc!G I
deeply and completely accept myself!&
%UIt may not (e sa!e to get over my issueU! Fuse your actual pro(lem, not

%UI may not deserve to get over this issueU&

%UI donLt 3now how to #e =normal>U&
%UILm afraid 9>ll lose my identityU&
%UFor whatever reason, I don:t want to overcome this pro(lemU&
I almost always use at least the first and last of these phrases, which usually catch
everything in (etween! %Iot deserving& to get over something is also a (iggie, so try
it if it fits, along with any of the others! They:re free and they can:t hurt! Aust pic )
or * and say them while doing the K$!
1ou:ll now the @eversal neutrali;ation wored when you start doing EFT again and
your intensity num(er starts going down! @eversals can (e a huge stum(ling (loc,
(ut they are so easily remedied that we needn:t let them stand in the way!
,emem#er0 !i1ing a ,eversal does not !i1 the issue! !t only eliminates an
impediment to fi$ing the issue. 1ou still need to do EFT as normal after fixing a
@eversal..i!e!, set.up and tapping se=uences!
6gain, @eversals are only one stum(ling (loc to a successful EFT treatment, (ut it is
often the one that causes people to say, MI tried EFT, (ut it >ust didnLt wor for meM! I
hate it when that happens!
Aust as a footnote to the subconscious kind of "econdary 4enefit "yndrome, there can
also (e a conscious resistance to letting go of a pro(lem! ,eople with disa(ilities, for
instance, might fear that if they (ecome whole (odied againB more will (e expected of
them, they will lose their (lue handicapped license plate, they will lose their disa(ility
income, they won:t get special attention, and so on! ,lease don:t misunderstand that
I (elieve everyone feels this way who has a de(ilitating issue, or that I would >udge
him or her for it! I:m only mentioning it (ecause I have seen this happen many times!
I:ll as someone %If there was a reason for you eeping this pro(lem, what would it
(eD& ?ne lady wrote out two full pages of the (enefits of her having +ultiple
"clerosis! These are not @eversals, per se, (ecause they are conscious thoughts!
Eowever, they are easily dealt with, and in the same way as the subconscious
secondary (enefits!

Suggestion ?: 6ive @our 9ssues a <oi2e
0iving your issues a voice resolves issues effectively (y vocali;ing the different
aspects of a pro(lem and addressing (oth your willingness and unwillingness to let
go!
9hen woring with a highly charged emotion, there is often an inner conflict, as a
%part& of us wants to get over it while another %part& of us wants to hang on, for
various reasons! For instance, if you are angry with someone, there may (e a part of
you wanting to punish that person (y staying mad! If fear is what is eeping you
stuc, there is certainly a part of you afraid of releasing the fear! 6nd those who
have anxiety are often %anxious a(out overcoming the anxiety&, as if remaining hyper
vigilant were eeping them safe!
?ne of the ways you can tell you have pro(a(ly encountered a resistant part of
yourself is when you are tapping and your intensity gets stuc at a particular num(er
Fthere are also other reasons why your num(er might remain the sameG! 6s you
(egin to release a long.held fear for instance, that reluctant part of you is liely to
ic in at some point lamenting, %9ait a minuteC 9ho will I (e without this fearD& or %I
won:t (e safe without this fear!& "imilar concerns are liely to occur with any long.
standing or charged emotion! 9hile that %other voice& is seldom rational, it is
nonetheless real, and needs to (e dealt with!
Hsing EFT to %give voice& to all sides of an issue allows the resistance to %coha(itate&
while you are sneaing up on it to eliminate it! 6t the same time, giving a voice to the
different aspects of an issue allows you to dissipate them all at once!
There:s a simple and effective way to do it! "tart with the negative aspects of an issue
and at first >ust tap on the simple and o(vious aspects! Eere:s an example with
%-ana& who was very angry with her sister#
?n the sore spot W set.up point or on the K$ point, she said#
%Even though I:m furious with %+aggie& for telling everyone my secret, I love and
accept myself completely!&
Then on each of the tapping points she repeated the simple phrase %this anger at
+aggie&! The intensity had dropped to a 5 so we started giving a voice to more
aspects Fher feelingsG concerning this issue! @emem(er that it:s a good idea to
dissipate some of the charge on an issue (efore getting too specific a(out the
emotions!
I had her say different phrases at each point, such as, %I can:t (elieve she would
(etray me lie that! I thought I could trust her! I was so humiliatedC& I then
encouraged her to participate (y venting her feelings herself! "he started (y saying,
%Eow em(arrassingC I:ll never trust +aggie again!& 6nd as she tapped, -ana
proceeded to express the numerous emotions that had (een triggered, such as hurt
and sadness! $learly her intensity was falling =uicly!
9hen -ana seemed to get stuc with what to say, I would alternate phrases with her,
such as# %Io one will ever trust me now& and she would add %I feel so ashamed&! I
would add %I feel lie I:ve lost credi(ility with everyone&, etc! For practitioners, tuning
into the client with your own intuition is an important aspect of the art of EFT! 6lso
encouraging them to participate ensures that they get to vent all of their feelings or
conflicts! 9hen you:re tapping on yourself, you sometimes can:t see around the
corners, so to spea, and might miss an important aspect! It:s important that you say
whatever is on your mind or in your heart to clear the air Fand your meridiansG as you
tap!
4y voicing the different feelings around a conflict, you are also dissipating the
different aspects of the experience or issue! In that way -ana (egan to alleviate
(etrayal, em(arrassment, humiliation, hurt, and regret, rather than >ust the anger!
-ana:s intensity had dropped to a / Fwhich indicated there was a part in her willing to
let goG so we then started %arguing& (oth her willingness and unwillingness to let go of
the issue!
?n the set.up point FK$ or sore spotG she said,
%Even though there:s a part of me still angry at +aggie for telling people my secret,
there:s another part of me that:s letting it go and I love and accept (oth parts of me!&
This (egins a gentle transition into addressing (oth sides of the conflict!
?n the next round, voice the anger as well as other issues such as feeling (etrayed,
(eing hurt or disappointed 6I- include the desire to get over it! For example#
E4 I:m still mad at +aggie
"E "he really hurt me
HE I can:t (elieve she would (etray me lie that
HI 4ut I love her
$E Io, I don:t anymoreC
$4 I:m so disappointed in her!
H6 4ut she:s my (est friend! I can:t stay mad at her
Liver ,oint Funder the (reasts '.) inchesG I want to let this go
9rists Io, I don:t
$@E 1es, I do! I want to let it go
@emem(er, the actual words you say at each point are not nearly as important as
venting what needs to (e expressed to address the differing sides! 1ou can get the
same effect as well, (y >ust telling the story as you tap, as long as you introduce the
possi(ility and advantages of letting go! @emem(er you:re giving a voice to (oth the
part of you that sort of wants to get over this, and the still resistant part of yourself!
9hen woring on yourself, eep reassessing your intensity! 6ssuming your intensity
has dropped (elow a /, change your next set.up statement to something similar to
what I had -ana say# %Even though a small part of me is still holding on to the anger,
a (igger part of me is letting go! I want that part of me to win! I:m ready to get over
this and forgive her!&
E4 Io, I:m not
"E If she cared for me she wouldn:t have done that
HE 4ut she:s apologi;ed )0 times
HI 6nd I do miss her
$E 4ut she (etrayed me
$4 1eah, and I:m tired of hurting and fretting over it
H6 I thin I:m ready to forgive her
L, I want to forgive her
9@ I:m ready to let this go
$E I give myself permission to put this (ehind me

It:s very important with EFT to (e as specific as possi(le a(out an issue! 0ary $raig

4eing vague, general, or glo(al is to deny the (ody an opportunity to remedy the

Eere are some examplesB If you have low self.esteem, you are unliely to get

)uggestion ,-+ .eal with )hifting Aspects
"hifting aspects are lie separate (ranches on the same tree! The trun of the tree
may represent the core issue, such as a horrific car accident! -ifferent (ranches on
the tree represent the separate aspects, such as the guilt someone might feel for
causing the accident, or the anger at the other driver for (eing intoxicated! 1et
another aspect on the same %accident tree& might (e the trauma of seeing a loved

It:s important in neutrali;ing your issues For those of a client,G to address all of the
aspects pertaining to that issue! The more complex an issue, the more aspects or
(ranches there are liely to (e! 6(use of any ind, for instance, will surely have
multiple aspects! 6n a(used child will often experience fear, (etrayal, guilt, distrust of

of (eer on dad:s (reath!G "ometimes these issues should (e dealt with separately,
sometimes collectively! 4ut every aspect needs to (e alleviated in order to
completely clear the issue of a(use For any issue!G
"ometimes, a client For youG may not notice an underlying issue until a more painful
core issue has (een reduced in intensity! It would (e similar to you falling off your
(ie and (reaing your arm, scraping your nee (adly, and cutting your little finger!
1ou may not even notice the scraped nee until the doctor had num(ed the pain in
your (roen arm and set the (one! ?nly then would you notice the scraped nee, and
when that was fixed, you:d notice the cut finger!
?ften, in the same way, when the intensity has dropped considera(ly on the main
issue, a client might say, %1ou now, the real pro(lem is the resentment toward my
sister, not the anger!& Eowever, the real pro(lem was the one that was most
noticea(le in the (eginning Fthe anger!G 6lmost all complex issues have multiple
aspects that (ecome more apparent as the intensity level is lowered on the main
issue!
0enerally it:s (etter to get the original issue down to a ;ero (efore moving to any
other newly noticed aspect! ?ccasionally however, you need to alleviate shifting
aspects as they arise, especially if they are clearly related to the original issue! In
doing this you will often discover that the hidden aspect turns out to (e the core
issue! ?nce the new aspect For core issueG is completely resolved then you can return
to the unfinished issue to complete it!
?ften when the ma>ority of the supporting aspects are neutrali;ed the original
pro(lem will collapse on its own! 0ary uses the analogy of collapsing multiple legs on
a ta(le! 6t some point, when you:ve cut off enough legs the remaining legs collapse
on their own! +y favorite example of dealing with shifting aspects was with %-r!
-ave&#
%-r! -ave&, a psychologist, came to see me a(out the grief of his (rother:s death
twelve years earlier! Eis (rother had (een illed in a tragic avalanche and the trauma

shifted aspects to his mother:s suicide many years (efore his (rother:s death! It
turned out that neither he nor his (rother or father new that the mother was having
an affair and that she was so depressed a(out it she was suicidal! In this case we left
the (rother issue and wored on the mother issue! It turned out that -ave had vowed
never to (e so insensitive to his future wife:s situation or to his children:s feelings as
to (e unaware that they were hurting!
Eis father:s insensitivity, he (elieved, may have contri(uted to his mother:s death! "o
-ave vowed to (e ultra.sensitive! 6s a result -ave:s sensitivity showed up in his over.
reaction and long.lasting grief regarding his (rother:s death! ?nce we dealt with his
mother:s suicide Fwhich included guilt, anger, (etrayal and griefG we were a(le to go
(ac to his (rother:s death and =uicly dispatch the long.term grief on that issue! 9e
did a @eversal on the grief as well, since -ave:s su(conscious didn:t want to let go of
the grief! 6 com(ination of these two impediments helped clear -r! -ave:s long.term
issues! Iow, over two years later, he:s completely free of the grief and can spea of
his (rother without sadness or pain!
6gain, with "hifting 6spects you should usually stay with the original pro(lem until it
has (een completely neutrali;ed (efore tacling a new aspect! Let >udgment, intuition

Suggestion A 8 9mprove your 3nowledge and s3ill o! EF
EFT is relatively simple! 1ou pic an issue, do a set up statement, and tap on the
meridian points! That:s pretty (asic and easy, rightD 9ell, yes and no! There are
several different EFT techni=ues, su(tle nuances and multiple components to each
element that re=uire study and practice to (e proficient!
That said, even when in the hands of a %new(ie,& EFT generally produces success
rates over 70< with simple issues! The medical profession would love to have
consistent results that high! $onsistently good results, however, are harder to
achieve with more complex issues!
That:s (ecause there is so much more to EFT than simple tapping! 6s people (ecome
more involved with EFT, they are often astounded at the complexity, diversity and
power of this remara(le tool! It can (e used for so much more than >ust alleviating
negative emotions! From allergies to respiratory ailments, from hiccups to heart
disease, from low self.esteem to lung cancer, EFT has provided consistently
astounding results!
6n accomplished practitioner can achieve a success rate of over 80< primarily
(ecause he or she has studied and practiced the art of EFT! Ironically it appears that
as the practitioner improves, so does the perception that EFT has improved!
?(viously EFT isn:t what is changing! Hsed properly, it consistently provides ama;ing
results!
If you gave a great chicen cacciatore recipe to five people, all the way from a fine
chef to a novice coo, you would liely see five very different applications of that
same recipe! 6nd there would liely (e five different.looing and tasting results
coming out of the oven! It:s lie that with EFT! EFT is always great! -iscrepancies in
the final result lie in the application of the art, not the product! Even if you:re >ust
woring on yourself, with no desire to (ecome a practitioner, the more you now
a(out EFT the (etter your personal results will (e!
here are three primary ways to learn and improve with your EF s3ills: 9ith
the EFT -2-s, attending live worshops and (y practicing! There are advantages to
each and I:ll give my recommendations for the best way to learn EFT at the end!
5 great way to start learning EF is with 6ary>s .<.s and the EF manual!
1ou can learn the (asics this way (y watching and tapping along with the -2-s!
That:s how many of us %old.timers& got started!
The EFT $ourse not only teaches %The 4asic @ecipe& in great detail, (ut 0ary also
goes on to display the %art of delivery& with hundreds of people in live sessions! The
more fine points you pic up, the more nowledgea(le you can (ecome! 9ith videos
you can watch in the comfort of your own home or office, replay sections over and
over and learn at your own pace!
9hen doing so, it:s important to watch all of them U and in order! +any people sip
around on the videos to find %their& issue! This often results in taing the EFT $ourse
out of context so that valua(le lessons are short.circuited or missed altogether!
9hen this happens, su(tle elements of EFT go unnoticed or are ineffectively applied!
That:s when people erroneously say, %EFT >ust isn:t woring for me!&
5nther wonder!ul way to learn EF is through *or3shops with experienced
practitioners! In live worshops you have the opportunity to as =uestions, practice
your sills with others, (e supervised (y those who can spot your mistaes and really
immerse yourself in EFT!
6dditionally, in FmostG worshops you have the opportunity to wor on your own
issues with others! +ost of the people in our worshops have watched the videos,
read the manual and had even (een practicing EFT with clients, yet are still missing
many important aspects of EFT!
1ou can read lots of (oos on swimming, sit on the (each or (y the pool and watch
people swim for hours, (ut until you get into the water and try it yourself you will
never really learn how to swim! 6nd it:s good to have a lifeguard handy when you
tae that first plunge!
If you:re serious a(out leaning more a(out this powerful tool then doing a live
worshop is highly recommended! 6nd it:s a must if you plan on (ecoming a
practitioner of EFT!
So here>s my re2ommendationU-o all threeC
Buy and wat2h 6ary>s .<.s!To order the EFT videos clic on this lin EF
raining .<.s and C.s! The price is very afforda(le and the value is
extremely high!
5ttend Buality *or3shops to really move your sills to the next level! If you
>ust can:t get to a live worshop then wor with a practitioner one.on.one or
with teleclasses! There is really no su(stitute for live interaction with others

wonders of EFT until you experience it yourself and use it with others! ,lease

Fstic with simple issues until you now what you:re doingGC
It:s important to remem(er that you don:t have to now every single thing a(out EFT
(efore using it and getting results! 'art o! EF>s magi2 is in its simpli2ity to

complex issues! The more you learn a(out and practice with this life.altering tool, the
(etter your results will (e and the (etter person you can (ecomeC

Suggestion C: Find and .eal with the Core 9ssue
Finding the core issue of a pro(lem is one of the most important tenements to EFT!
Finding the core issue is lie finding the root of a weed and pulling it out! If you >ust
cut off the part of the weed a(ove ground, then you haven:t illed it at all! 1ou may
appear to have removed it (ut the results are only temporary! If you cut the top off
of a weed and it will grow (ac! -estroy the root and it will wither and die!
The same is true for finding and eradicating core issues, and it:s why traditional tal
therapy is often ineffective! Fre=uently only the symptoms or the top of the weed are
dealt with! 2enting a(out a su(>ect might (e cathartic and temporarily (ring relief,
(ut it doesn:t ultimately solve the pro(lem!
In order to find the core issue For causeG of a pro(lem, you need to do some detective
wor! 6sing =uestions of yourself For client,G is important in discovering the
underlying cause of any issue! Eere are some (asic =uestions you should explore#
9hen did the pro(lem For the symptomG startD
9hat was going on a(out that time or >ust (efore thenD F?ften someone:s
pain, disease or other symptoms will have (egun a(out the same time as a
divorce, death, or traumatic event!G
9hat do you thin caused you to feel For (eG this wayD
If you had your life to live over, what person or event would you >ust as soon
sipD This simple (ut poignant =uestion, often posed (y 0ary, can prove very
powerful in getting to the %root of the weed&!
9hat else does this issue remind you ofD F"ometimes your overreaction to a
(oss:s criticism may (e a response to how your mom always corrected you!G
9hat was your relationship lie with your parentsD
9hen did you start feeling (ad a(out yourselfD
9ho really hurt youD
9hat For whomG are you afraid ofD
9hen you have answers to some of these =uestions, then you:ll have something
tangi(le to tap on!The answers might lead to your core issue, or (e the core issue!
Finding the Core o! Emotional 'ro#lems
-iscovering the cause of emotional issues can (e slightly different from discovering
the reason for physical issues! 9ith physical issues we want to discover what was
going on during or >ust (efore the symptom, pain or disease (egan! ,hysical
pro(lems are often the result of a singular trauma or event!
9ith many emotional issues, such as depression, low self.esteem, chronic anger, we
want to uncover the first time the emotion manifested itself! 9hen did you first start
feeling sad, worthless, angry, ashamed or whateverD Emotional issues are often
caused (y repetitive, negative events! Keep in mind that this is not always the case,
(ut rather a rule of thum(!
Emotions can also (e triggered (y singular events or traumas, of course! 1ou get
mad at your (oss for yelling at you! 1ou:re sad (ecause a loved one died! 1ou feel
ashamed (ecause you had to as for a loan! That:s a(solutely normal! 4ut when find
yourself (eing overly sensitive to a particular emotion, that:s when you want to
consider deeper roots as the cause! Loo for the first time you felt shamed,
a(andoned, (etrayed, hurt or unloved! That may (e the cause of the over.sensitivity
to your current pro(lem!
6s an example, %0lenda& came to me with low self.esteem, and said she:d (een
tapping on it for wees, without success! 9hen I ased her what exactly she had
(een saying when tapping, she said, her set.up statement had (een, Even though !
have low self-esteem% ! love and accept myself completely!
4esides the fact that the last part of her sentence didn:t ring true for her, her phrase
of %I have low self.esteem& was far too general! 4eing too general or vague is one of
the main reasons people get stuc when doing EFT! 4y the way, if you can:t say %I
love and accept myself& and mean it, then say %I want to love and accept myself!&
The real challenge for 0lenda was what actually caused her low self.esteem! I started
asing her =uestions a(out when she first started feeling (adly a(out herself! I found
out she had married a man while in college who was very controlling and emotionally
a(usive! Ee critici;ed every move she made and constantly put her down!
Every day she felt worse a(out herself as her self.esteem plummeted! "he
desperately wanted out of the marriage, (ut was so emotionally (eaten down she
couldn:t even see how she could leave! Then, after 10 years of a(use, %$larence& told
her that he wanted a divorce (ecause he had found a younger, prettier woman!
Instead of feeling relieved, 0lenda was crushed!
"he (elieved that if she had >ust (een a more o(edient wife and tried harder to please
him, $larence wouldn:t have left her for an 17 year.old girl! "he felt lost, hopeless,
and was certain no one would ever love her again! 9ell, there was plenty to tap on
there Fthe emotional trauma, her limiting (eliefs a(out herself, the (etrayal, guilt,
shame, etc!CG Eowever, I felt we still weren:t at the true core issue! Eer experiences
with $larence were all certainly contri(uting factors, or what I call %piling on&, (ut not
the fundamental cause!
Iote# 4esides the core issue, there may often (e many %piling.on& incidences
throughout your life that replicate the original pro(lem! The easily made mistae is
thining the most current pro(lem is the core issue!
I then ased 0lenda who her ex.hus(and reminded her of! %?h, he was >ust lie my
daddyC& she said without hesitation! This wasn:t a surprise at all, since we often
repeat the (ehavior of our parents, or attract people into our lives Flie (osses,
friends or spousesG that are >ust lie one of our parents!
0lenda:s father was always sternly correcting her and (elittling her, maing her
(elieve she could never do anything right! This made her feel lie she wasn:t smart
enough or good enough! That was the core issue of her low self.esteem! "ince there
were multiple events and traumas created (y dad, with similar results, Ffeeling
shamed, guilty, sad, angry, hurt,G I used my 4undling 4aggage Techni=ue to
eliminate these traumas and feelings all at once!
?nce the %daddy.issues& were cleared, we wored on the issues with $larence! 9e
tapped on several traumas and events a(out his a(uses toward her! 9hen we were
at a ;ero charge on anything $larence.related, and tested the results, it was clear we
had finally neutrali;ed the causes of 0lenda:s low self.esteem! I had ased if there
were any other %piling on& events, (ut there were none! Eowever, we weren:t done
yet! "he felt (etter a(out herself, (ut not great!
To wrap up her session I gave her positive attri(utes a(out herself to repeat as she

and third rounds I had her contri(ute more positive statements a(out herself at each
point! "he was genuinely surprised to acnowledge and own all of her sills, talents

Finding Core 9ssues !or 'hysi2al Conditions
It is not a coincidence when someone gets ill, or develops a pain or disease around
the time of a traumatic event! In fact it:s lielyC +any physicians say that 7/< or
more of our physical maladies are the result of unresolved emotional issues!
Furthermore traumatic events can cause physical ailments without us (eing aware of
any connection!
For instance, I had a client who developed migraines shortly after her twin died from
serious in>uries incurred in a car accidentB yet she hadn:t seen the correlation!
6nother client stuttered severely since his father disappeared one night and never
returned home! Initially, he didn:t remem(er that his stuttering had started at that
time!
6 more o(vious correlation (etween cause and affect happened in a case with
%Iicy:s& severe food sensitivity! "he would get nauseous and (rea out into hives
whenever she ate chicen noodle soup F(ut not other chicen products!G The core
issue there was that her mother had illed her pet chicens for food when Iicy was
seven! Eer mother then made chicen noodle soup out of $heepy and ,eepy and
maliciously told Iicy a(out it >ust as she was eating the soup! EwwwwC Than 0od
she didn:t have a pony!
6lso, many people su(consciously avoid remem(ering what was going on during a
particularly difficult time in their lives! +ay(e it:s too painful, may(e they:re afraid of
where it might tae them, or may(e they:re afraid they >ust can:t handle what they:ll
find!
I had a client named %Ellen&, who had a severe memory pro(lem! 4oth her long.term
and short.term memories were virtually non.existent! "he couldn:t remem(er her
wedding day, her son:s and daughter:s childhood, or what was discussed in an office
meeting 10 minutes ago! Iot surprisingly, she couldn:t recall when her memory
pro(lem (egan!
"o we simply tapped on the general statement of Even though ! can&t remember
when ! lost my memory or why and ,aybe there&s something !&m afraid of
remembering In less than two rounds Ellen had an inspiration! "he recalled an
event she had completely suppressed for over '/ years! "he had gotten an a(ortion
when she was 18 and it was very traumatic for her, (oth physically and emotionally!
"he was very upset and ashamed over it, and (ecame very ill as a result of it!
9e eliminated the shame, em(arrassment and guilt of the a(ortion Even though !
have this shame% embarrassment and guilt over the abortion% ! want to love and
accept myself. 9e then tapped on the physical trauma of her a(ortion and her fear of
remem(ering it! Even though !&ve been afraid of remembering this traumatic time
6lmost immediately her memory (egan to return! "he started recalling events from
her children:s youth, and even an assignment she was supposed to complete for
wor! Eer lac of memory was >ust the symptom! The core issue was the trauma of
the a(ortion!
I:m often ased, %9hat if I can:t remem(er any traumatic events or when my pro(lem
startedD& Then >ust do what Ellen and I did! Tap on Even though ! don&t remember
when or why this began% ! love and accept myself anyway!
1ou can eradicate an issue even if you never remem(er it! 1our pro(lem could even
(e pre.memory! 1our energy (ody nows the reason for the issue, and you don:t
always have to (e conscious of it yourself! Ionetheless, do the detective wor until
all avenues are exhausted or until you find the core!
?nce you discover the core or cause of your pro(lems or symptoms, you will (e well
on the way to eradicating them! ?ften people need help in getting to the root of their
pro(lem! 6nother person:s perspective can (e crucial in uncovering core issues!
Even the (est surgeon in the world can:t effectively give himself or herself an
appendectomy! "o try EFT yourself, (ut if you stum(le, as for help! EFT worsC
