TOPIC: Some people say that it is the responsibility of individuals to save money for their own care after

they retire. To what extent

do you agree or disagree?
ANSWER:
Caring about life after retirement is raising a matter of concern among people. I believe that although individuals need to save some
whenever possible, the government should assist its citizens when they get old.
To begin with, it is reasonable to say that people deserve to have some forms of welfare, regardless of pension or other financial
assistance. As workers pay taxes while they work, they should receive some certain amount of money when they retire. Therefore, it
would be unreasonable to say that only individuals are responsible for their lives after retirement; the government should be in
charge of paying pension for the old to guarantee their lives.
Secondly, the role of government is to take care of its citizens, regardless of who they are. Those who have no job should also be
given some financial assistance to ensure that they can afford a basic living because without money, they can risk their lives to rob
or commit other associated crimes, and this will be a threat to social security. Moreover, leaving the old unattended means nothing
less than giving them a death sentence, raising some questions about moral aspects of the authorities.
However, individuals should also be responsible for their lives by saving money whenever it is possible. Because pension cannot be
generously given, people have insufficient money to pay for every arisen demand. Therefore, saving may be a solution, especially
when it comes to medical care for the old.
In conclusion, although individuals should save some for their life after leaving work, I believe that government should take care of
its citizens by giving pension.

TOPIC: People still value arts (musicians, painters, writers) despite improvements in science and technology. Do you think arts are
as important as science and technology?
ANSWER:
Thanks to the blooming science and technology, human beings are now experiencing modern facilities that help them to enjoy a
better life. Some people argue that arts, therefore, play less important role in comparison with science and technology. However,
this is not always true because in my opinion, arts still stand on the same significant position.
To begin with, it is undoubtedly that science and technology cannot replace arts in humans spiritual life. Technological productions
may help to reduce man power and provide a comfortable life but they absolutely are incapable of creating meaningful moments and
bringing information . An air-conditioner, for instance, can cool down the temperature when it is hot, yet it cannot relax people as a
song does once they are stressful. Similarly, although a washing machine saves a lot of time and energy for human beings, it
provides no knowledge and story about things about life as a novelty does . Those examples once again confirm the irreplaceable
role of arts in human life.
Secondly, it is surprised that arts do have some contribution to the development of science and technology. Indeed, what a painting
presents may be seen differently depending on the imagination of the audience. In other words, paintings assist people to build up
their mind, thoughts and creativeness which, of course, are essential to develop science . Likewise, the increasing demand of
entertaining music has promoted technology in an excellent way. Initially, music could just be heard by live performance, and then
radio was invented to broadcast songs widely. Now, as we all know, there are many types of recordings that have brought high
quality music to audience worldwide.
In conclusion, despite that science and technology have made our life great, arts still are similarly important. Not only does it enrich
human spiritual life, art also advances the development of science and technology.

TOPIC: Nowadays, more people are migrating to other countries than ever before. In order to become integrated into society in their
adopted countries, immigrants should abandon their old ways and adapt to local customs and codes of behavior. Do you agree or
disagree?
ANSWER:
Today, the number of people moving and settling in a foreign country is increasing. While some people believe that immigrants
should not make any changes in the way they live, I would hold a contrary opinion for the following reasons.
To begin with, the primary reason why immigrants should adjust themselves to the new cultures is to reduce the chance of
misunderstanding among local residents and newcomers. Sometimes, the roots of conflicts between people are originated from the
cultural differences, and this will increase the distance among them. For example, it is considered rude in Japan when people do not
bow to each other, or when they speak something impolitely. As a consequence, if the immigrants resist adopting common practices
of the local citizens, they are much likely to be isolated from the community.
Additionally, it is widely believed that different countries have different codes of conduct, and for this reason people should obey
rules and regulations of the host countries. By this I mean some acts can be legal in a society, but they can be regarded as illegal in
others. For example, while gambling is permitted in the US as an entertaining activity, it is considered a type of crime in Vietnam,
and gamblers are much likely to receive prison sentences for their actions. This explains why in many countries applicants for
permanent residency have to pass the tests in legislation and local culture.
In conclusion, as a saying goes when in Rome, do as the Romans do, we should change our behaviour and lifestyle to follow local
customs when settling in a new society.

TOPIC: Several languages are in danger of extinction because they are spoken by very small numbers of people. Some people say
that governments should spend public money on saving these languages, while others believe that would be a waste of money.
Discuss both these views and give your opinion.
ANSWER:
It is true that some minority languages may disappear in the near future. Although it can be argued that governments could save
money by allowing this to happen, I believe that these languages should be protected and preserved.
There are several reasons why saving minority languages could be seen as a waste of money. Firstly, if a language is only spoken
by a small number of people, expensive education programmes will be needed to make sure that more people learn it, and the state
will have to pay for facilities, teachers and marketing. This money might be better spent on other public services. Secondly, it would
be much cheaper and more efficient for countries to have just one language. Governments could cut all kinds of costs related to
communicating with each minority group.
Despite the above arguments, I believe that governments should try to preserve languages that are less widely spoken. A language
is much more than simply a means of communication; it has a vital connection with the cultural identity of the people who speak it. If
a language disappears, a whole way of life will disappear with it, and we will lose the rich cultural diversity that makes societies more
interesting. By spending money to protect minority languages, governments can also preserve traditions, customs and behaviours
that are part of a countrys history.
In conclusion, it may save money in the short term if we allow minority languages to disappear, but in the long term this would have
an extremely negative impact on our cultural heritage.

TOPIC: It is important for all towns and cities to have large public spaces such as squares and parks. Do you agree or disagree with
this statement?
ANSWER:
It is sometimes claimed that large public spaces such as squares and parks are necessary infrastructures for all cities. While I agree
that this is a sound argument, I also believe that not all towns can have these spaces.
One the one hand, I can understand some reasons why large public areas are important for the towns in term of enhancing peoples
health. Firstly, people tend to approach parks for outdoor activities regardless of age or gender, which can help them keep fit and
healthy. Adults realize that park is an ideal place to do exercise or socialize with other people while adolescents can find it useful in
order to go camping or chatting. In addition, it is true that the trees in the parks can reduce environmental problems such as air or
noise pollution; as a result, the health of citizens might be gradually improved.
On the other hand, I also recognize that it might be difficult for all towns to have large public areas due to the shortage of land.
Some cities have weak long term plans, therefore, they do not have large areas used for parks or squares. For example, two big
cities in Vietnam, namely Hanoi and Hochiminh cities, show limited number of parks and squares. The cities have to arrange the
large spaces to build up housing and enlarge road systems, which are caused by over-population. Obviously, these problems are
more urgent than having parks and squares in the cities.
In conclusion, it is necessary for towns to have large public spaces but it also depends on each circumstances, whether or not the
towns can afford them.

TOPIC: Some people think that computers and the Internet are more important for a child's education than going to school.
But others believe that schools and teachers are essential for children to learn effectively. Discuss both views and give your
own opinion

ANSWER:

With a number of technological advancements growing apace, it is generally believed that the Internet and computer will
supplant the traditional role of teachers in the not-too-distant future. This idea may point out to two main directions, both
of which present different arguments

Central to the supporting arguments of this issue is the idea that the global online network is the inexhaustible source of
information, which definitely exceeds the fund of knowledge that any veteran teacher can accumulate. Internet and
computer also offer a more comprehensive access to knowledge, ranging from visual to aural stimuli, which make learning
an ever enjoyable experience, especially for children

On the other hand, critics of this idea maintain that although educational benefits that the Internet may yield are
undeniable, some certain shortcomings have still remained . Much information as the Internet may provide, most of the
sources are unjustified by experts. As a result, information from those sources is subjected to question Admittedly, the
computer can show whether an answer to a particular question is right or wrong but it cannot give as an in-depth
explanation as a human teacher can. Through face-to-face communication, teachers can also pinpoint the weaknesses of
each student and therefore, adjusting and tailoring their teaching methods to meet the levels or the demands of those
students. This is where the computer proves to be incompetent.

In short, although both sides have their equally valid arguments. I am inclined to think that although Internet can be a
useful tool for education, it will never can play the unique role of human teachers.

(261 words - by c Hng)TOPIC: Children educating is expensive. In some
countries, the government pay partly or all education fees. Do the
advantages outweigh the disadvantages? (IELTS question 22/02/2014)

ANSWER:

In many countries, education fees for children are partly or fully supported by the
government. While this may cause some potential problems, I believe that the
benefits are greater than the drawbacks.

There are a number of positive impacts when the government provides some
financial support for childrens education. Firstly, governmental subsidy will
encourage more children to go to school and eventually reduce illiteracy rate. It is
true that children are the future of a country, so the greater investment we make in
their education, the better workforce we have in future, which is the precursor of
economic growth. Secondly, governmental funding for educating children will
relieve some financial burdens for parents, so they have more money to spend on
better nutrition and health care for children.

On the other hand, when governments subsidise tuition fees for children, several
problems can be anticipated. The main disadvantage of this would be that some
important sectors of the economy, such as infrastructure and agriculture, will be
insufficiently invested in; as a consequence, the economy will be held back from
development. Another drawback is that some taxpayers, especially those who live
alone or who are childless, may feel unfair because part of their money is paid for
educating other peoples children. However, these negative consequences can be
negated by the contributions that children make to their country when they grow
older.

In conclusion, although spending the national budget on the education of children
may have potential problems, I believe that its advantages outweigh the
disadvantages.

TOPIC : The number of people not knowing their neighbors is increasing.
What are the causes? What are the solutions?

ANSWER:

It is true that nowadays people tend to move to big cities; however , many of them
donot have any contact with their neighbors, and they seems to be more isolated
than ever before. This modern lifestyle probably contributes to the lost of
commnity sense . It is the goal of this article to outline several reasons for the issue
as well as suggest certain ways to address it.

To begin with, there are several reasons why people donot have any contact with
neighbors. Firstly, business from job is one main reason that leads to the
indifference among neighbors. As people leave for work early in the morning and
come back home late in the evening, they are too tired to have time for paying
attention to their neighbors. Secondly, the development of information technology
has contributed to the lost of community sense. With the birth of social networks
such as facebook or twitter, people donot have to go out but sit in their own rooms
and they can get contact with people living far away. As a results, people in many
big cities seem like Robinson in their own houses.

Having said that, I believe some remedies can be used to address this problem.
Firstly, local authorities had better organize weekly activities such as running
teams or singing clubs. Such leisure activities will create chances for people to
gather, to talk and connect with each others. Gradually, their sense of community
will be mature. Secondly, at the heart of the matter is people responsibility to
tackle the problem. Human being is a society where people are independent of
each others; therefore, they should make their own effort to become responsive
residents.

In conclusion, the above-mentioned facts have given us an outline of the causes
and suggestions for indifference among neighbors. Admittedly, such solutions
would be not easy to be implemented in real life; however, they should be done to
solve at the roots of the problem.

TOPIC: Nowadays animal experiments are widely used to develop new
medicines and to test the safety of other products. Some people argue
that these experiments should be banned because it is morally wrong to
cause animals to suffer, while others are in favour of them because of
their benefits to humanity.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

ANSWER:

It is true that medicines and other products are routinely tested on animals before
they are cleared for human use. While I tend towards the viewpoint that animal
testing is morally wrong, I would have to support a limited amount of animal
experimentation for the development of medicines.

On the one hand, there are clear ethical arguments against animal experimentation.
To use a common example of this practice, laboratory mice may be given an illness
so that the effectiveness of a new drug can be measured. Opponents of such
research argue that humans have no right to subject animals to this kind of trauma,
and that the lives of all creatures should be respected. They believe that the
benefits to humans do not justify the suffering caused, and that scientists should
use alternative methods of research.

On the other hand, reliable alternatives to animal experimentation may not always
be available. Supporters of the use of animals in medical research believe that a
certain amount of suffering on the part of mice or rats can be justified if human
lives are saved. They argue that opponents of such research might feel differently
if a member of their own families needed a medical treatment that had been
developed through the use of animal experimentation. Personally, I agree with the
banning of animal testing for non-medical products, but I feel that it may be a
necessary evil where new drugs and medical procedures are concerned.

In conclusion, it seems to me that it would be wrong to ban testing on animals for
vital medical research until equally effective alternatives have been developed.

TOPIC: In many countries children are engaged in some kinds of paid work. Some
people regard this as completely wrong, while others consider it as valuable work
experience, important for learning and taking responsibility.

What are you opinions on this?

ANSWER:

Some people may not agree with the idea that children should be engaged in some
kinds of paid work. They think children should spend more time on studying,
playing rather than working. As far as I am concerned, I am at the opposite side
with them.

First of all, in terms of gaining experience, children who have paid work are more
senior than the others. Lets take shoe-cleaning job as an example. Children who
do this work will have chances to communicate with prospects to offer them a
service. Therefore they are more confident and experienced than the others who
just stay at home and do nothing. Furthermore, when clean shoes, children will
know how to improve their skills to serve clients better, then they will get more
work.

Regarding to learning, we can see the same point: children learn a lot when they
work and get paid for it. Cleaning shoes not only bring them some money but also
teach them to be patient in work and respect every coin they earn. This will help
them understand the value of money because if they are given money easily, they
will lavish them upon their pleasures.

Last but not least, working makes children be responsible. Turning back to the
above example, its obviously that when children get paid, they have to clean shoes
carefully. If they dont do it properly, they will loose prospect and money. All
these things mean that children will gradually lean to be responsible for what they
serve.

To sum up, with above evidences and explanation, I totally disagree with the idea
that children should not have any kind of paid work. They are young and working
will grow them up with a lot of experience, learning and responsibility.

TOPIC: Caring for children is an important thing of the society. It is
suggested that all mothers and fathers should be required to take
childcare training courses. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

ANSWER:

Children represent both the present and the future. In recent years, there has been a
surge of interest in transforming childcare into a formal subject of academic
studies. Traditional childcare skills, which are passed on from one generation to
another through oral and informal instruction, are not sufficient to guarantee
quality care, so parents' participation in care training is advisable.

Many parents might be accustomed to the idea that childcare is all about love, but
this notion is misleading. While it is easy to admit that parents are responsible to
attend to children's needs, it is also important to note that children are too often
insatiable. Unlike adults, they have no idea of what their behaviours lead to. For
example, children are candy lovers without knowledge that candy can cause
obesity and tooth damage. Parents should not respond to children's needs for candy
permanently. Parents who give whatever children want, known as indulgent
parents, can be blamed for their children's behaviour problems and unhealthy
habits. Childcare training teaches parents how to take a holistic approach to care
for their children and prevents them from answering children's inappropriate needs

Another misconceived idea of childcare is that it is a simple process of feeding
children and making them sleep regularly. Contemporary childcare is not limited to
this. Equally important for this science are emotional and mental wellbeing. For
example, some children's first step comes earlier than other children's which cannot
be explained with simple knowledge. Childcare is a complex science that goes
beyond nutrition. Whether parents have helped children improve motor skills and
cognitive skills accounts for children's overall wellbeing.

To put it in a nutshell, I pen down saying that successful childcare does not lie only
in love but also in skills. Children's healthy development is measured not only by
physical wellbeing but also by growth in other dimensions. With these borne in
mind, parents might now be compelled to join childcare training.
Topic:Some people think that politicians have the greatest influence on
the world. Other people, however, believe that scientists have the
greatest influence. Discuss both of views and give your opinion.

ANSWER:

People have different views about greatest influences on the world. Although there
are several brilliant arguments in favor of politicians influence, I mainly believe
that the impact of scientists on humanity is huge.

To begin with, the main reasons why people believe that politicians have the
greatest influences vary. Firstly, it is widely believe that all the laws of nations is
created by politicians. The law is a powerful tool for government to manage a
country, and it is mandatory for all citizens to abide law. Secondly, politicians play
a significant role in building a nation. For instance, Lincoln is a famous president
who leads United State to be an equality country for everyone with every skin
color.

On the other hand, I would content that scientists have large impacts on humanity.
There is no doubt that science creates medicine to treat people disease for
centuries. Many cures have been developing to treat dangerous diseases such as
H5N1 and SAR for example. Without cures, thousands of peoples life or more in
every nations will be put on a considerable risk of wide spread diseases.
Additionally, in the era of technology, scientists role become more important for
human. From beginning of 21 century till now, forms of communication between
people significantly change. For instance, instead of using pens and papers to write
a letter, almost all people today use email or messages because the higher speed in
transferring.

In conclusion, even though influences of both scientists and politicians is large,
and influences of them clearly force humans life to be innovated .
Scientists tell us that some activities are good for health and others are
bad. Despite knowing that, million of people still continue doing
unhealthy activities. What are the causes and what are the sollutions for
this?

Body 1: Causes:
- Life becomes busier -> fast food and junk food -> obesity.
- Life is more stressful -> drink beer/wine for relaxation.
- Being addicted to games, television, computer -> sedentary lifestyle ->
deterioration in health.

Body 2: Solutions:
- Individuals spend more time on the preparation of healthy meals and diets.
- Do physical exercise instead of the intake of alcohol drink.
- Joining outdoor activities rather than bury in technology devices.
TOPIC: In many countries, young people leave rural areas to study or
work in cites. What do you think are reasons of this ? Do you think the
advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

ANSWER:

Introduction:
- In many parts of the world, young people are migrating into cities for better job
opportunities and better education.
- In my opinion, this has both benefits and drawbacks.

Body 1: Reasons for the trend:
- Better job opportunities.
- Higher education.

Body 2: I believe that this trend has both positive and negative impacts.
- Positive: Better workforce for society, better life.
- Negative: Crowded population in cities, lack of workforce in rural areas.

Conclusion: employment and education are two main reasons, and this has both
advantages and disadvantages as discussed above.

TOPIC: Economic progress is one way to measure a country's success.
Some people believe that there are other factors should be considered
when measuring the success of a country. What are the other factors? Do
you think there is a factor that is more important than the others?

ANSWER:

Among the number of factors in evaluating the success of a country, education and
health care systems are proved to be equally important as economic growth.
Personally, I believe that none of them are more crucial than others.

There are several reasons why education is a contributing element in the success of
a society. Firstly, when people have a chance to access education, they are much
more likely to find a job, meaning that they can make a living without resorting to
robbery or theft, for example. Secondly, efforts to improve research and
development activities will be hampered if there is a shortage of students enrolling
in academic courses. Finally, one of the main goals of education is to improve
peoples general awareness, which is the major difference among underdeveloped,
developing and developed countries.

Equally important, a good health care system also plays an important role in
measuring how great a country is. Obviously, a healthy population can make great
contributions to the development of the country, and it would be impossible to
expect the same thing in regions where people are suffering from health problems
and diseases. To illustrate, fatal diseases such as HIV and malaria are destroying
African communities, militating against economic development and efforts in
improving education quality in these areas. Therefore, providing vaccines, drugs
and medical treatments to cure people should be given an equal consideration as
education and economic growth.

In conclusion, I believe that each of three factors mentioned above makes different
contributions when judging the success of a country, and there will be no scale that
can indicate which one is more important than others.

TOPIC: A rise in the standard of living in a country often only seems to
benefit cities rather than rural areas.
What problems might this difference cause? How might these problems
be reduced?

ANSWER:

The rapid economic growth in many countries has led to a widening gap between
cities and rural areas. This also causes a corresponding increase in the number of
problems that need to be tackled, as now will be discussed.

Perhaps the most severe consequence is that people living in rural areas tend to
move to city centres for a better life, causing an overload on infrastructure and
services. For example, in Vietnam, there are a growing number of people migrating
into Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to access better education and medical care. As a
result, there will be an overcrowded population in these areas, putting considerable
strains on traffic and hospital services that are already limited.

Furthermore, there will be an unbalanced workforce between urban and rural areas.
Hoping for a better career path, many new graduates decide to settle in big cities,
and this will make the job market become more competitive. Meanwhile, many
sectors in the countryside experience a labour shortage, which will eventually
holds the local economy back from development.

I believe that several remedies can be used to address the issues. One measure
would be for the government to make a greater investment in improving conditions
in rural areas. For example, schools and hospitals should be built to make
education and health care more accessible in those areas. Another solution is that
incentives can be offered to attract business investment, generating more jobs for
the locals. Finally, teachers and doctors should be required to spend part of their
lives working in rural areas.

In conclusion, a rise in standards of living has resulted in overpopulation in big
cities and an unbalanced workforce in different areas of a country. However, there
are a range of options available to handle the problems described above.

TOPIC: Some people say that men should not advise women when
making a decision. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

ANSWER:

It has recently been feverishly argued that females advice may cause many
negative effects on their partners lives. As a result, it is thought that men should
make their own decisions without asking their wives. However, some others take
an opposing perspective. The attitude might be biased if the issue is not thoroughly
discussed.

What is first at the forefront in my mind is that womens advice is the most worthy
to take into consideration when a decision is made. A recent research of a top-
notch scientists group has shown that it is a complicated process of series difficult
skills such as gathering the fact, quality assessment and especially wife persuading.
If there is a need of advising, it should be wives advice rather than experts. Bill
Clinton asked his wife to run for the USA President while Adolf Hitler listened to
his military advisors to conquest the world and we all knew the results.

Another opinion that deserves public consideration is that males lives will become
uncomfortable if they do not consult females whether it is right or wrong. You do
not respect me; you do not love me anymore and thousands of meaningless words
like that will be thrown into a mans ears along with biting and scratching just
because we boil an egg without asking his wife recipe. An ancient philosopher
named Chu Cuoi, a typical example in Vietnam, had always asked his female
partner and doing the way around and was punished with a life sentence in the
Moon.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that men should consult or at least pretend to
consult women in all circumstances. We are deserved a happy life. For the men of
21th century, shut up and do exactly what are your female partners saying! Do you
think you will happy if your wife is angry?

TOPIC: Some people think that parents should teach children how to be
good members of society. Others, however, believe that school is the
place to learn this. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

ANSWER:

A childs education has never been about learning information and basic skills
only. It has always included teaching the next generation how to be good members
of society. Therefore, this cannot be the responsibility of the parents alone.

In order to be a good member of any society, the individual must respect and obey
the rules of their community and share their values. Educating children to
understand the need to obey rules and respect others always begins in the home
and is widely thought to be the responsibility of parents. They will certainly be the
first to help children learn what is important in life, how they are expected to
behave and what role they will play in their world.

However, learning to understand and share the value system of a whole society
cannot be achieved just in the home. Once a child goes to school, they are entering
a wider community where teachers and peers will have just as much influence as
their parents do at home. At school, children will experience working and living
with people from a whole variety of backgrounds from the wider society. This
experience should teach them how to co-operate with each other and how to
contribute to the life of their community.

But to be a valuable member of any community is not like learning a simple skill.
It is something that an individual goes on learning throughout life and it is the
responsibility of every member of a society to take responsibility for helping the
younger generation to become active and able members of that society
TOPIC: When a country develops its technology, the traditional skills and
ways of life die out. It is pointless to try and keep them alive. To what
extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

ANSWER:

Nowadays, technological advances and their rapid and wide applications are
having a significant impact on a nations traditional skills and ways of life. Some
argue that such impact is so extraordinary that it would make conventional skills
and life styles obsolete. However, I believe they would continue to thrive by
providing alternatives to modern ways of life, and innovative ideas for modern
technologies.

First of all, traditional skills and ways of life are becoming an alternative solution
to the problems caused by mainstreamed ways of life which are greatly
influenced by modern technologies. For instance, a cozy restaurant where
traditional, home-brewed beer is served, offers another experience to people who
are bored with branded beers that have the same flavor and come out of mass
production with new technologies. It is in such a venue where traditional skills are
preserved, people become relaxed and educated. Providing diversity and thus
enriching modern ways of life, such traditional skills and ways of life would
continue to have their place.

Furthermore, conventional skills provide innovative ideas to the development of
modern technologies. For example, sparkled by how the word Love is
traditionally knitted into a sweater by some ethnic minority women in some parts
of Asia, some business managers from textile industry have developed some
production lines by applying the traditional skills to Computer-Aided Designs
(CAD). The products have boosted the companies sales which in turn have
increased their investment in preserving traditional skills for further developing
their technologies.

To conclude, traditional skills and life styles are increasingly becoming a useful
alternative to the homogeneity brought by global applications of modern
technologies. However, the evolution of technologies is a selection process,
whereby some would become obsolete, but there is no doubt that some would
thrive when their roles are appreciated.

TOPIC: Popular events like the Football World Cup and other
international sporting occasions are essential in easing international
tension and releasing patriotic emotions in a safe way. Do you agree or
disagree?

ANSWER:

Every four years, the whole world stops to watch international sporting events such
as the Olympics and the Football World Cup in which athletes show their best
performance to make their country proud. These sporting occasions have proved to
be helpful in easing international tension in difficult times when powerful leaders
were trying to control the worlds economy and other governments were fighting
over the land.

The Olympic Games are one of the best examples which prove how sporting
events can bring nations together, at least temporarily. From the ancient History,
when Greeks and Romans would interrupt battles to participate in the games, to the
more recent international disputes, when athletes from Palestine and Israel would
forget their differences, compete peacefully and even embrace each other after an
event. Moreover, these popular events have called the worlds attention to the
terrible consequences of wars; thus some leaders have tried to reach agreements to
end their disputes and live peacefully.

Similarly, international sporting events show benefits in some developing countries
which live in a daily internal civil war. For example, Brazil has a high rate of
unemployment, lack of education, hunger, crime, poverty and corruption which
leads to an immense embarrassment of being Brazilian and a low self-esteem.
However, when the Football World Cup starts, the Brazilian squad, which is
considered the best team in the world, provokes an amazing feeling of pride in
their country. Most people seem to forget all their problems and even the criminal
activity decreases. They paint roads with the national colors, wear the Brazilian
team shirts and buy national flags. Moreover, the competition brings families and
neighbors together and even rival gangs watch the games and celebrate peacefully.

In conclusion, popular sporting events play an important role in decreasing
international tensions and liberating patriotic feelings as history has shown.

Topic: Some people think that international travel will broaden
knowledge while others think it will lead to tensions between local
residents and travelers. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

ANSWER:

Never before has international travel flourished like now. While some people
assert that travelling abroad would expand the knowledge of the tourists, the
opponents argue that international tourism is the source of clashes between the
locals and the tourists. I find the former more convincing.

There is little doubt that exposure to an alien country will broaden the horizon of
peoples mind. Travelling offers exceptional opportunities to experience new
culture first-hand. Escaping from the familiar surroundings, the Western travelers,
for example, have chances to dwell in huts near the exquisite tropical beaches or
stilt houses in the remote mountainous area in Vietnam, which they would hardly
experience in their civilized country. Similarly, exotic taste of local cuisine and
traditional music lingering on is also unforgettable. Such aspects of foreign culture
will enrich the travelers life and concurrently, help them to develop an
appreciation of their own culture. The introduction to external culture will hit the
visitors that their own culture is unique and urge them to discover more about it.

On the other hand, tourism can irrefutably result in undesirable friction between
the natives and the tourists. In the limited time span of the trip, it is fairly difficult
for tourists to acclimatize to the local culture. To illustrate, Westerners in casual
clothes visiting the religious temples might offend the locals. Also, language
barrier can cause misunderstandings. Different places have its own communication
pattern including gestures and expressions. Unaware that in Bulgaria while a side-
to-side nod means a yes, the nod of the head up indicates a no; the tourists may
find the Bulgarians obnoxious.

In conclusion, despite cultural misunderstandings or antipathy might arise among
between visitors and locals, international travel, in my opinion, can lead to
improved understanding and greater cultural awareness.

TOPIC: Nowadays, more people are migrating to other countries than
ever before. In order to become integrated into society in their adopted
countries, immigrants should abandon their old ways and adapt to local
customs and codes of behavior. Do you agree or disagree?

ANSWER:

During the last decades, there is a significant number of people migrating to other
countries. Whether immigrants remain their original ways of living in their adopted
countries is a debate of subject. While some people support this, I would contend
that immigrants should abandon their old lifestyles and try to adapt to local values
to fit in their new countries.

To begin with, it is obvious that people living in a nation must obey the laws and
regulations for the social order of this country no matter what their nationalities
are. For example, everyone have to follow the road rules when driving, otherwise
they might be punished or injured in accident. There are many differences in the
rules and regulations among nations, for instance, in the US, carrying guns or
gambling is not forbidden whereas they are strictly illegal in other countries. Thus,
it is essential for immigrants to adapt to local laws and customs in their adopted
countries even if they are different from their own country.

Some people assert that immigrants should protect and remains their own way of
living because of national character. However, although it is true that we should
respect and keep our own cultural and local values, I would claim that we must
also respect the local customs of our adopted countries. When we live in a country,
which means we belong to that society, so it is important for us to overcome the
differences and become integrated into that country. I believe that similarities
among people bring them together while differences make them apart.

In conclusion, I firmly hold the view that immigrants should abandon their original
lifestyles and adapt to local values of their new countries for a sense of unity of a
society.

Topic: Some people think that it is better for older schoolchildren to
study a large number of subjects and develop a range of knowledge.
Others argue that they should study a smaller number of subjects and
focus in details. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

ANSWER:

Education is a prerequisite for the better future of any student; however, how many
subjects should they study is a contentious issue. Some proponents advocate that
the more subjects, the better, whereas other people holding an opposing opinion
argue that the students should specialize in a limited number of subjects instead. In
my opinion, one should adopt a fair approach, obtaining general knowledge and
concurrently seek thorough knowledge in certain subjects.

Labour-intensive economy has recently succumbed to the knowledge-based
economy, requiring the labour force to equip themselves with broad knowledge of
manifold fields. The students who will soon join the working class, thus, are
required to have an excellent command of both natural and social science.
Simultaneously, they also need advanced skills in computer as well as foreign
languages. The more they acquire, the broader their horizon are. More importantly,
exposure to sundry subjects would also present an opportunity for the students to
discover their talents and realize which sector they find appealing and would like
to pursue further. Every student has different and unique aptitudes of which are not
aware by him/her until he/she has a chance to study a variety of subjects. Access to
a small range of subjects might limit the students job opportunities. Consequently,
they might end up having the occupation which they hardly find any aspiration and
in turn, deliver inefficient performance at work, which cause the waste of human
resource.

Despite the great value of generalization of knowledge, one should bear in mind
the fact that basic knowledge of numerous subjects is not sufficient, especially in
high demanding professional environment. Each individual is designated a certain
position which entails specific knowledge accumulated in both school and life. The
specialization in education, hence, proves its significance. Investing a greater
amount of time and effort in subjects considered to be relevant to future career, the
students, thereby, could excel in their study and then render their service better.

From what has been discussed, gaining knowledge through different subjects at
school is critical to a students success; however, the balance between general
knowledge and specialized one should be considered in equal measure. In-depth
study in some subjects which the students find interesting and essential for their
future profession paralleling acquisition of general knowledge is recommended.

Lets look at an example of an Agree/Disagree question:

Some people think that all teenagers should be required to do unpaid work in their
free time to help the local community. They believe this would benefit both the
individual teenager and society as a whole.

Do you agree or disagree?

Heres how I would structure my essay:

Introduction.

I paraphrase the first sentence about requiring teenagers to volunteer in the
community. I state my opinion that I agree because it benefits both the teenager
and the community.

First main reason why I agree

it benefits the individual teenager. Explain how it benefits them and give examples
opens their eyes to the problems of others, instills discipline and commitment,
helps their communication skills as they have to work with others, etc.

Second main reason why I agree

it benefits society as a whole. Explain how it benefits society and give examples
helps create stronger bonds within communities if teenagers are involved,
communities always need helping hands in various projects clean ups, setting up
free events, providing services for elderly, sick or poor, etc.

Conclusion

restate that I believe that community volunteering is important to both teenagers as
individuals and to society as a whole.
TOPIC:
Some people think that governments should give financial support to
creative artists such as painters and musicians. Others believe that
creative artists should be funded by alternative sources. Discuss both
views and give your own opinion.

ANSWER:

People have different views about the funding of creative artists. While some
people disagree with the idea of government support for artists, I believe that
money for art projects should come from both governments and other sources.

Some art projects definitely require help from the state. In the UK, there are many
works of art in public spaces, such as streets or squares in city centres. In
Liverpool, for example, there are several new statues and sculptures in the docks
area of the city, which has been redeveloped recently. These artworks represent
culture, heritage and history. They serve to educate people about the city, and act
as landmarks or talking points for visitors and tourists. Governments and local
councils should pay creative artists to produce this kind of art, because without
their funding our cities would be much less interesting and attractive.

On the other hand, I can understand the arguments against government funding for
art. The main reason for this view is that governments have more important
concerns. For example, state budgets need to be spent on education, healthcare,
infrastructure and security, among other areas. These public services are vital for a
country to function properly, whereas the work of creative artists, even in public
places, is a luxury. Another reason for this opinion is that artists do a job like any
other professional, and they should therefore earn their own money by selling their
work.

In conclusion, there are good reasons why artists should rely on alternative sources
of financial support, but in my opinion government help is sometimes necessary
TOPIC 1: It is said that to protect the environment we should reduce air
travel. Do you agree or disagree?

ANSWER:

Wether decreasing airplane to defend enviroment against pollution is a subject of
debate modern day. Although some people advocate this view, I believe that
reducing air plane does more harm than good.

It easily seens that limit of going by plane causes high pressure to other mean of
transports like motobike, car, ...if air plane is limitted, they still will use much
more other vehicle to meet their demands. It desn't lead to reduce enviroment
problem.

Therefore, lliving standard is more worse than in the futureo when we banne going
by airplan.one the reason is that many industrial activities need fast mean of
transport like air travel to help fast and effective comminication in bussiness or
society

In cinclusion, i firmly hold the view that we should be develope air travel
particilarly eco- friendly airplane.

TOPIC 2: Nowadays, there are an increasing number of people who do not know
their neighbours. What are the causes? What are the solutions for this?

ANSWER:

It is true that lack of communication and caring each other between neighbours in
living region is a crucial issue modern life. This has significant effects on human
life in the development. In this essay, I will explore the sources of its causes along
with some possible solution to it

To begin with, there are two main reasons why distance between neighbours
becomes increasingly alienation. Firstly, people have to work harder than those of
previous generation to support family, so they spend a little time for relationships
such as neighbours even their family and do not often get on well with neighbours
due to a little time to share and take care each other. Secondly, people in over the
world become more individual than those in the past because they often put their
priorities firstly instead of community. This root of this problem is originated from
financial pressure in their family and less time to involve community activities in
their life.

In order to resolve this sense of alienation with neighbours, I believe we must first
address its root causes. The most effective method of doing this would be for
leader of this community which they live to organizate community activities such
as: outside parties or clean their streets or share their experience in life. This aims
to engage everybody each other through social activities. One further measure
would be to promote more interactive leisure activities in the community through
public education campaigns.

In conclusion, this is vast oversimplification of the issue. Solutions such as the
reintroduction of community activities would be problematic in the past. However,
I firmly hold that the simple way is the best way.
TOPIC: Airline easy travel, but pollution to the environment. Discuss
both views and give your opinion.

ANSWER:

Along with the booming of tourism industry worldwide, air-crafts are obviously
seen as one of the best means of transportation. Some people say that flights are
easiest way to travel; however, others argue that the environment will be polluted
due to huge amount of planes emission. Both sides are reasonable to a certain
extent.

Firstly, it stands on reason that air travel is one of the most convenient ways to
travel. When it comes to distant places, it is even clearer. One is that many isolated
mountains, rivers, jungles or valleys can be easier to visit than they were in the
past. Poor roads and infrastructures that frustrates people using cars and trains to
get there is now not a big concern for tour operators as they can arrange a direct
air-line for passengers to the spots. What is more, tourists can consider air travel
the fastest way to visit other countries. Far as the distance is, it seems that buses
and trains are not the best choices for the Asian who want to go to European
countries. In this case, air plane is undoubtedly the first solution.

However, there are no less convincing arguments to support the opinion that air
travelling causes pollution to the environment. In other words, exhausted emission
and noise produced by the aircrafts affect seriously the surrounding. When the
engines are starting and operating, big amount of fuel is consumed, generating
huge exhausted emission directly to the environment. Additionally, noise, loud as
it is, is also a headache problem of the plane. Not only does it affect the creatures
in the sky, but it also leads to negative impact of the surrounding nearby the
airports, especially when it comes to take-on and take-off procedures.

In conclusion, both sides are examined. I am better convinced that airlines offer
passengers an easy way to go travel. Admittedly that environmental pollution still
remains a big question in our society; however, that problem is not only of air way
but also of other means of transportation.

Topic: To protect the environment, we should reduce air travel. Do you
agree or disagree?

Whether the reduction of air travel contributes to protecting the
environment is a subject of debate. Although some people are in support
of this, I believe that it is unnecessary to cut down on civil aviation.

To begin with, I would claim that the decrease of air-crafts is in association with
the increase of demand on other means of transport, which is by no means
conducive to environment protection. It is obvious that when travelling by air is
restricted, people would resort to other vehicles such as trains, buses. Those means
of transport proved to be a culprit of environmental contamination through the
tremendous exhaust fumes and noise they produce daily. Therefore, the
environmental pollution caused by plane could be as severe as by the alternatives.

Absolutely there is an undeniable fact that our environment would be fresher if the
intensity of air travel is reduced. Nevertheless, it is more important to remember
that human are heading for a better life, in which one of the most modern and
convenient means of transport is plane. In fact, in terms of long distance journey,
the airplane ranks the first place with the comfort and time saving it provides for
travelers. Hence, travelling by air has been indispensable part of the modern pace
of life. Besides, the severe effects of planes on the environment could be reduced
by replacing toxic materials used for engine operation with environment- friendly
ones, in which hydro and solar power may be good substitutes.

In conclusion, from above arguments, I firmly hold the view that the decrease in
flights would not have significant effect on environmental protection. Instead,
some more effective solutions should be adopted before air travel reduction is
taken into consideration
TOPIC:
Smoking can cause serious illnesses and should be made illegal. To what
extent do you agree or disagree?

Introduction:

Whether smoking should be banned is a subject of debate. Although people have
different opinions about this, I believe that smoking should be prohibited because it
causes deterioration in health.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, I firmly hold the view that smoking should not be allowed to protect
people from associated diseases.
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of airplane?

Along with the blooming economies throughout the world, traveling by
airplane attract many people because of its advance. However, like in
everything else, there undoubtedly two sides to using this kind of
transportation. This essay will discuss both positive and negative
aspects.

For the first place, there are a number of benefits relate to airplane. The key good
point is that going by flight is the most effective way to save time. For example, in
Vietnam, it only take about three houts to move from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh city,
while if people travel there by train, they have to spend up to 36 hours on this trip.
In addition, many passengers assume that no transport is safer than airplane for
long distance at this time. It seems because airports invest much more money for
upgrading modern facilities and plots are trained professionally.

In contrast, there are some drawbacks of using airplane. Firstly, it is likely that
miserable people do not afford themselves for moving by flight because its tickets
are quite expansive. As a result, it is able to cause a class discrimination in society
as people believe that airplane prove the caste of the rich. Secondly, these
advanced modes is chief culprit of air pollution by releasing toxic emissions.
Burning petrol fuel emit carbon dioxide and the proportion of CO2 is increasing
rapidly in the atmosphere. They are also linked to global warming phenomenon
which is causing natural disaster such as hurricanes or elnino.

In conclusion, although airplane is convenience and safety, it also result in polluted
air seriously and discrimination between the affluent and the poor. Whether the
upsides outweigh the downsides depend on individuals.
TOPIC: Should the government pay the tuition fees for students?

ANSWER:

In recent years, education is becoming an issue of great concern in many countries,
because it plays an important role for the development of each country. The
question of whether or not the tuition fee should be covered by the government
remains controversial. Personally, I strongly believe that students should pay their
own university education because of three following reasons.

The first reason for my belief is the limitation of governments budget. To be more
specific, they have to pay for many other essential aspects, such as health care,
environment, national security, science, and so on. Furthermore, the government
has already invested in building schools, libraries, and supported for equipment,
books, and the like. Students nowadays just pay tuition fees for salary of teaching
staff and for improving of learning facilities.

Secondly, paying their own education fees may lead to better studying. Indeed,
almost all people are often more responsible when they have to give out
something. Students will be more likely to attend classes and try hard for studying.
Therefore, they will have better academic results. In addition, universities usually
have scholarships for good students, hence, if they want to get money back, they
have to study much more in order to get best marks to achieve the scholarship.

Finally, students tend to find a part-time job when the government does not cover
tuition fees. Because some students cannot afford their education fees, they have to
earn money to pay for study materials. When they do part-time jobs, they will gain
more experience which helps their future career.

In conclusion, its my opinion that the educational authority should not cover the
tuition fees for students. Money that students and their family have to pay brings
many benefits not only for their countrys development, but also for themselves.

TOPIC: Some people think that families have the most powerful
influence on a child's development, while others think other factors such
as television, friend, music, etc have biggest effects. Discuss both views
and give your opinion.

ANSWER:

In the modern society, children approach the exciting world around by interacting
with not only their parents but also their friends and through multiple channels.
Although families have a tremendous effect on childrens development, I believe
that they are more affected by other factors such as television, music and friends.

It is undeniable that families are in the closest proximity to their offspring. There is
no doubt that children tend to intimate the manners of elder family members. For
example, children have respect for adults when witnessing that parents are
respectful of the elder like grandparents. Bad habits of parents, also, exert adverse
impacts on children, for instance, parents who are spendthrifts cannot educate their
children to adopt a saving lifestyles. Moreover, children are likely to be oriented by
parents as they are too young to realize what is right or wrong and what is good for
them, which is the reason why families play a significant role in childrens
maturity.

However, I would contend that social relationship with friends and other channels
such as television and music make more profound effects on childrens
development. When getting older, children socialize with friends and spend most
of time at schools and on other activities outside the scope of families. By
interacting with their peers, their communication and team work skills that is
important for their later life can be improved. Additionally, children can enrich
their knowledge through educating TV programs with interesting image of the
universal around, which their families in many cases are not capable of showing
them. Finally, listening to music, which is proven good for brain, nourishes
children soul, contributing to the overall development of children.

In conclusion, I hold the firm belief that other factors such as television, music and
friends have the most momentous influence on children development over their
families.

Some people think that families have the most powerful influence on a
child's development, while others think other factors such as television,
friend, music, etc have biggest effects. Discuss both views and give your
opinion.
TOPIC: Successful sports professionals can earn a great deal more money
than people in other important professions. Some people think this is
fully justified while others think it is unfair.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

ANSWER:

As a result of constant media attention, sports professionals in my country have
become stars and celebrities, and those at the top are paid huge salaries. Just like
movie stars, they live extravagant lifestyles with huge houses and cars.

Many people find their rewards unfair, especially when comparing these super
salaries with those of top surgeons or research scientists, or even leading
politicians who have the responsibility of governing the country. However, sports
salaries are not determined by considering the contribution to society a person
makes, or the level of responsibility he or she holds. Instead, they reflect the public
popularity of sport in general and the level of public support that successful stars
can generate. So the notion of fairness is not the issue.

Those who feel that sports stars salaries are justified might argue that the number
of professionals with real talent is very few, and the money is recognition of the
skills and dedication a person needs to be successful. Competition is constant and a
player is tested every time they perform in their relatively short career. The
pressure from the media is intense and there is little privacy out of the spotlight.
Therefore, all of these factors may justify the huge earnings.

Personally, I think that the amount of money such sports stars make is more
justified than the huge earnings of movie stars, but at the same time, it indicates
that our society places more value on sport than on more essential professions and
achievements.

TOPIC: Some people think that it is better for older schoolchildren to
study a large number of subjects and develop a range of knowledge.
Others argue that they should study a smaller number of subjects and
focus in details. Discuss both views and give your opinion. (IELTS
27/04/2013)

ANSWER:

In recent years, the number of subjects at school has become an issue of
widespread public concern. There are conflicting views toward this growing trend
of whether it is necessary to offer a wide range of subjects for children. However,
others argue that children should study a smaller number of subjects to specialize
in intensive fields. Advocates for both sides are reasonable to some certain extent
as now will be explained before a final conclusion is reached.

On the one hand, those against this practice may argue that there are enormous
benefits for older schoolchildren with studying a variety of subjects at school. This
is especially true when it comes to eastern societies, where it has long been
perceived that students are encouraged to study a large number of subjects such as
math, history, geography and physics in order to have comprehensive
developments rather than just study some courses and focus in details. Because of
this, children can handle complicated problems in their life with extensive
knowledge and essential skills from accessing different fields. It is understandable
why the variety of chosen subjects at school is of significant importance to ensure
the wholesome development as well as heighten their employability and success in
later lives.

On the other hand, there are no less convincing arguments to say that studying a
limited number of subjects has considerable advantages. Firstly, learning smaller
range of subjects help children to study more effective. It is true that focusing on
fewer subjects lessens the pressure of studying for many exams and also reduces
the distraction since their brain does not have to handle multi-questions of different
fields. Secondly, children can choose a set of subjects that they like or they are
good at. In fact, once they are able to learn what they want, their higher motivation
will surely enhance their academic results. With this support since children are
young, they are likely to develop fully in their own fields, which leads to higher
probability of success in the future.

From what has been discussed, one can reach a conclusion that it is hard to choose
a suitable number of subjects for children at school because the ability of
individuality is different. However, I believe that it is better for children to study a
limited number of subjects at school.

TOPIC: Some people think that it is better for schoolchildren to study a
large number of subjects and develop a range of knowledge. Others
argue that they should study a smaller number of subjects and focus in
details. Discuss both views and give ur opinion.

ESSAY 01:

That older schoolchildren learn a larger or smaller number of subjects
remains controversial. Some people think that the more subjects they
learn, the more they become confident in work environment while
others claim that they may grow stressed with too much to learn. Each
idea has its own value.

On one hand, the input of various subjects at school provides older
schoolchildren numerous benefits. By accessing different fields of life,
they can gain more knowledge, skills and handle complicated problems
that they may encounter in later life. In addition, no sooner are they
supplied with a bigger world of knowledge than they can widen their
vision and discover their potentials. Meanwhile, those children who
learn a limited number of subjects hardly realize their favorite field and
often follow a certain subject of being imposed by schools. In addition,
after graduation, if older schoolchildren enter work environment and
desire to gain promotion and respect from colleagues, they should be
adaptable, versatile and knowledgeable. This, in fact, results from their
absorption of various fields during school years. Equally important, in
countries which supply older schoolchildren with an increasing quantity
of subjects to choose and learn, their labor grows more high-skilled
while their economy is more diverse. Even new fields are born thanks to
this. Facts have shown that here in developed world, students are able to
access strange but exhilarating subjects like paleontology, ornithology,
astronomy, horticulture and others, giving birth to wonderful inventions
and ensuring sustainable development.

On the other hand, the introduction of a smaller range of subjects has its
own advantages. As a consequence of cramming themselves with
mountains of books and exercises, hardly do children have time to relax,
let alone to work out to nurture their physical health. According to a
study, there are a growing number of children suffering obesity and poor
eye sights due to their sticking to computer screens to finish their
assignments and thick books up to thousands of pages. The pressure of
exams and overloaded schedules at school, in some worse cases, may
deprive children of all ages of real student life, sleep, willingness to
socialize with others and lead to a number of collective suicide cases
among those of eighteen. In addition, seldom do parents expect to pay a
huge amount of money, with an escalating amount of knowledge
required. To some extent, is that necessary for older children to study
while such savvy can prove slightly practical in work environment?
Surveys have shown that companies still have to pour a large budget into
re-training graduates , despite the latters absorption of various fields. It
is better for these children to specialize in certain fields, instead of
jacking of all trades, mastering of none, as there goes a saying.

In brief, it is up to children to study a small or large number of subjects.
As long as they are eager to learn, let them access more, but if they
rather lead a life of harmonious combination between learning and
entertainment, they will have their own choice of subjects.

(508 words)

ESSAY 02:

It is true that teaching a large number of subjects to children remains a
controversial topic among people. Although reasons can be given to
justify this, I believe that children should be taught fewer subjects.

On the one hand, it is understandable why many people feel the need to
teach children as many subjects as possible. Firstly, an exposure to
different subjects would bring children opportunities to grow up socially
and naturally. For example, while science lessons give children
knowledge of how things are formed and evolved, arts subjects enrich
students mind and soul. Secondly, children may discover their
potentials when trained a variety of subjects. Sometimes we do not
recognize what we do best until we have experience with it, and so do
children. By studying various things, perhaps children find their interest
in a particular field and pursue it as their later career path.

On the other hand, those who believe that children should not be taught
many subjects are also reasonable. The main arguments of this opinion
base largely on reducing pressure for children and improving education
quality. As fewer subjects mean fewer exams, children can ease some
worries about the score at the end of every semester so that they can
focus on details of the lectures. Additionally, when the subjects are
limited in number, chidren have more time to ponder on the lessons that
they are taught in the class. This will enable them to fully acquire the
knowledge rather than just understanding general concept, and thus
education quality will eventually be improved.

In conclusion, although there are convincing arguments for teaching a
great number of subjects at school, I would contend that fewer subjects
prove to be better for the study of children.

Some people say that in our modern age it is unnecessary to teach
children about the skills of handwriting. To what extent do you agree or
disagree? (IELTS question 2011)

Before the age of information, handwriting skills were so vital for human
beings when they want to write something. However, things were
changed since the invention of computers and recorders because these
devices can totally replace pens and papers. Thus, I personally believe
that writing techniques will no longer need to be taught to children.

To begin with, it can be obviously seen that computers are more convenient for
people to note something. All what people can write on papers can easily be typed;
using keyboard and software that sometimes to produce documents with a good
view and ease to copy. For example, many high schools in Hanoi have changed
their method of teaching from writing on the blackboard to presenting the lectures
by computers and projectors. At the end of each lesson, the teaching materials are
sent to students via e-mail to review at home.

Secondly, many types of recording equipment have offered a great solution for
people to save information instead of writing by hand. Sound recorders, for
example, deal with troubles that journalists may encounter when they are incapable
of noting what have been mentioned in a long speech, or in the situations that
absent students want to recap knowledge provided by the professors. Similarly, a
camera helps to record not only voice but also body language of the interviewees,
which cannot be achieved by handwriting techniques.

Having said that, some people still believe that handwriting skills are sometimes
useful, especially when it comes to blackout and no electrical device works.
However, this argument merely explains why more and more money are being
invested in Research and Development sector. As a result, generators, batteries and
other source of green power like solar power are being produced, providing energy
for computers and recorders. Therefore, the argument for supporting handwriting
should be stopped.

All in all, although I do not mean to say that handwriting is some kind of bad, it
can be replaced by modern technology. People in the future may not know how to
write, but they are supported by much more convenient equipment.

TOPIC: Some people think that smoking should be banned. To what
extent do you agree or disagree?

ANSWER:

In many countries, people have become more concerned of a controversial issue
that smoking should be prohibited. Although smokers have their own justifications
for cigarette intake, I would argue that it is better to forbid the consuming of these
sticks.

Firstly, our health is put at risk by absorbing the smokes from cigarettes. When a
cigarette is burnt, it releases cancer-causing chemicals, nicotine and other poisons
into the air. In this way, chemicals in cigarette smoke are harmful to people,
causing many diseases, including cancer, heart diseases and various lung diseases.
This is the reason why we can easily see the warnings of these risks printed on
cigarette packages. For the heavy smokers, they keep smoking as a part of their
daily routine despite the alerted harm. As a result, doctors revealed that many
patients are struggling with diseases related to their long-term smoking habits.

Secondly, smoking costs health as well as your money. As smoking habits may
lead to threatening diseases, in a particular situation when smokers are diagnosed
with smoking-caused diseases, they have to take responsibilities for their medical
bills. The costs varied on the different severe levels of their health status. They
would not have to pay for that amount of money if they did not engage in smoking.
In other words, they could spare those expenses for saving. Thus, its undeniable
that smokers absorb the risks from smoking in terms of money and health.

In conclusion, I firmly hold the view that cigarettes should not be allowed.By
doing so, we can create a more healthy environment for our future lives.

Some people believe that studying at university or college is the best
route to a successful career, while others believe that it is better to get a
job straight after school. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

ANSWER:

When they finish school, teenagers face the dilemma of whether to get a job or
continue their education. While there are some benefits to getting a job straight
after school, I would argue that it is better to go to college or university.

The option to start work straight after school is attractive for several reasons. Many
young people want to start earning money as soon as possible. In this way, they
can become independent, and they will be able to afford their own house or start a
family. In terms of their career, young people who decide to find work, rather than
continue their studies, may progress more quickly. They will have the chance to
gain real experience and learn practical skills related to their chosen profession.
This may lead to promotions and a successful career.

On the other hand, I believe that it is more beneficial for students to continue their
studies. Firstly, academic qualifications are required in many professions. For
example, it is impossible to become a doctor, teacher or lawyer without having the
relevant degree. As a result, university graduates have access to more and better
job opportunities, and they tend to earn higher salaries than those with fewer
qualifications. Secondly, the job market is becoming increasingly competitive, and
sometimes there are hundreds of applicants for one position in a company. Young
people who do not have qualifications from a university or college will not be able
to compete.

For the reasons mentioned above, it seems to me that students are more likely to be
successful in their careers if they continue their studies beyond school level.

TOPIC: Some people think that the governments spent money on artists
would be better than on more important things. To what extent do you
agree or disagree?

ANSWER:

Art is crucial to the development of countries. Some people claim that
governments' support for art industry is of great value to social growth while others
claim that this can put national economy in danger. I strongly agree with the
former view for the following reasons.

Admittedly, as a result of investing immense budget in this industry, other key
fields are left abandoned. Particularly, in developing and underdeveloped world
where millions of people are in abject poverty, it sounds irrational for this field to
be heavily addressed. Besides, if people are obsessed with the artistic world, they
may soon forget the real life and become unproductive. After all, a strong economy
is the one in which people work hard to produce actual products while artistic
items are believed to be of intangible value.

On the other hand, there are numerous benefits of financially sponsoring arts. First,
arts such as poem, music and pictures are to color the world. Listening to songs or
writing poems, people grow more attached to emotional world and stay away from
mundane worries of life. Their creativity is also nurtured through their imaginative
minds in the production of artistic works. Second, with more budget poured, artists
are increasingly motivated to give birth to wonderful works. Surveys have shown
that due to being underpaid in this field, a great number of people leave for other
more fertile pastures such as business, technology and the like, despite their years
of pursuing and airing past strong passion for it. I still recalled the story of a man
who died in rags while endeavoring endlessly to write this last work, which he
believed as the only masterpiece of his life. Sometimes, the harsh materialistic life
deprives these artists of the source of inspiration and love for going beyond the
uncharted territories. Equally important, no sooner are artistic works highly
received by the mass than national image of the entire country is promoted. Several
countries like America where a significant amount of profit is allocated for the
development of this field actually generate huge profit. The successive shows and
exhibitions of artistic masterpieces around the world have financially benefited
both artists and governments, undeniably.

In brief, there are more pains than gains in the decision to earmark more budget for
arts, since writers, musicians and drawers are inspired to beautify the world and
enrich national budget.
TOPIC: Human has made a great technological process in the last
hundred years. However, this progress has negative effects on peoples
lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

ANSWER:

Some people believe that the development of technology offered huge benefits for
human being during the last ten decades, whereas others would contend that this
progress causes adverse effects on human lives. As far as I am concerned, I am for
the former group because of the following reasons.

To begin with, there is no doubt that technology helps to improve living standard.
Firstly, thanks to development of technology, an increasing number of vehicles
such as cars, motorbikes help peoples lives become more convenient. Moving
from this place to another place comfortably, people can save amount of time, and
goods are delivered rapidly to customers. Secondly, technology stimulates the
development of medical research , and this helps to cure people from fatal diseases
such as cancer and heart attack. As such, many lives can be saved, and life
expectancy is increasing as a result.

At the same time, some people believe that the progress of technology leads to may
negative effects on peoples lives. This view has a root in polluted environment
caused by technology development. However, it will be soon flawed because
scientists are endevouring to find various green energy such as solar and wind
energy to replace fossil fuel. In addition, technology applied in recycling process
helps people reduce a huge number of rubbishes thrown into the environment.
Most people hope that environmental standard will be improved in the near future
by innovation of technology.

In conclusion, there are convincing arguments both for and against the
development of technology, but I firmly hold the view that this progress offers
many benefits for humans.

Just cut 2-3 thin slices of lemon and put it in a cup containing driking
water. The water will become "alkaline water". Drink for the whole day,
just by adding more water. Take it as drinking water everyday. It is good
for health. This is the latest in medicine, effective for cancer!
Read carefully & you be the judge.

Lemon (Citrus) is a miraculous product to kill cancer cells. It is 10,000
times stronger than chemotherapy. Why do we not know about that?
Because there are laboratories interested in making a synthetic version
that will bring them huge profits. You can now help a friend in need by
letting him/her know that lemon juice is beneficial in preventing the
disease. Its taste is pleasant and it does not produce the horrific effects
of chemotherapy. How many people will die while this closely guarded
secret is kept, so as not to jeopardize the beneficial multimillionaires of
large corporations? As you know, the lemon tree is known for its
varieties of lemons and limes. You can eat the fruit in different ways: you
can eat the pulp, juice press, prepare drinks, sorbets, pastries, etc... It is
credited with many virtues, but the most interesting is the effect it
produces on cysts and tumors. This plant is a proven remedy against
cancers of all types. Some say it is very useful in all variants of cancer. It
is considered also as an anti microbial spectrum against bacterial
infections and fungi, effective against internal parasites and worms, it
regulates blood pressure which is too high and an antidepressant,
combats stress and nervous disorders. The source of this information is
fascinating: it comes from one of the largest drug manufacturers in the
world, says that after more than 20 laboratory tests since 1970, the
extracts revealed that It destroys the malignant cells in 12 cancers
including colon, breast, prostate, lung and pancreas. The compounds of
this tree showed 10,000 times better than the product Adriamycin, a
drug normally used chemotherapeutic in the world, slowing the growth
of cancer cells. And what is even more astonishing: this type of therapy
with lemon extract only destroys malignant cancer cells and it does not
affect healthy cells.

To begin with, I would claim that sports players deserve high incomes. One reason
is that they often have a shorter career path than other occupations. For example,
those footballers who are over 40 seem to be unskillful and not strong enough to
continue playing the games. Another justification is that sports professionals are
likely to be under threat of injury, which may seriously damage their health. This
can be obviously seen in boxing matches where a head accident can lead to brain
damage or even death. It is thus understandable why athletes receive large sums of
money.

TOPIC: Home schooling belongs to the past and is unacceptable in the
modern society. To what extend do you agree or disagree with this
statement?

ANSWER:

It is true that parents in the past preferred to teach their children at home. However,
in the modern society, I believe that this approach of education is no longer an
effective method.

Firstly, there are many reasons why teaching children should be conducted by
professionals. Many qualified teachers in different fields are working in education,
and this is the reason why I believe that children are taught at schools better than at
home. As these staffs at the school often have many years of experience teaching,
they consider carefully what are good to be taught. Another reason is that a good
education system is planned deliberately by professionals before teaching children.
As such, knowledge that children obtain from schools is organized to be suitable
for each childrens period.

Secondly, not all parents are qualified to teach their children. As a saying goes the
blind cannot lead the blind, many fathers and mothers do not know enough to
educate their children. For example, a father who is good at literature can find
mathematics or physics hard, and this leads to his failure of teaching these subjects
to his children. As no one is perfect for all fields, parents cannot have enough
abilities to educate all subjects to their children as well as professionals at schools
do. Additionally, even if those parents succeeded at schools, they might forget the
knowledge that they leant; that is, teaching their children becomes a hard work, if
not impossible task.

In conclusion, although homeschooling might be a choice in the past, I firmly
believe that this practice is unsuitable in todays world.
