CLASS PROFILE
This is an advanced 4 class composed by 21 students between 18 to 40 years old who
have been studying English for 729 hours.
These students are good at performing communicative activities such as role plays and
open questions. They are usually eager to participate when I ask for volunteers
However, they seem to have difficulties in going from controlled and semi controlled
activities which involve grammar. This is why plenty of examples before practice are
usually needed.
BACKGROUND
Students have recently started this new module. They have seen some vocabulary
connected to shopping and they have had some listening practice.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
Lesson aim
By the end of this lesson, my students will use ten phrasal verbs in a comfortable and
natural way.
Lesson objectives (specific)
Vocabulary objectives
My students will learn the form, meaning and use of ten phrasal verbs.
For example: Take over, pull in, cater for, hang around with, pop into, cut down (on),wear
out, come up against, come up with, pick up.
Phonological objectives
My students will practice the correct pronunciation of these phrasal verbs, along with the
correct intonation.

For example:
Cater for /ket f/
Take over /tek v/
Speaking objectives
During the practice stage, my students will use the phrasal verbs learnt to create a role
play conversation. For example:
Can you come up with any idea to pull in more people to our party?
We could pick up some people in case they get lost!
That would wear us out, its too much work!

RELATION BETWEEN LESSON AIMS / OBJECTIVES AND STUDENTS NEEDS
By studying these phrasal verbs, my students will enrich acquire new vocabulary related to
shopping. They are not used to practicing phrasal verbs as they have not been exposed to
them enough time to be familiar with them and use them comfortably. Besides, most of
them are interested in taking the FCE exam by the end of the year, so these phrasal verbs
will represent good help in the Reading and Use of English paper.
PERSONAL OBJECTIVE
I will try to give complete and clearer instructions to my students, so they can perform
activities well.
MATERIALS
A set of finely tuned sentences
Material created by Roger Daga Arredondo.
