week Scales
1. Construct a plain scale when 1 centimeter represents 4m and long enough to measure
up to 50m. Find the RF and mark on your scale a distance of 36m.
2. Construct a plain scale of RF 1:50,000 to show kilometers and hectometers and long
enough to measure upto 7 km. Measure a distance of 54 hectometers on our scale.
3. Construct a scale to measure Yards, Feet & Inches for measuring a maximum distance of
5 yards. The scale must not be longer than 100mm. Find RF and mark following distances
on it: (a) 3ft 9inches (b) 3 yards 2 ft 2 inches.
4. Construct a diagonal scale of RF 1:32,00,000 to show kilometers and long enough to
measure upto 400 km. Show distances of 17 km, 257km and 333km on your scale.
5. Construct a scale of chords and with its aid, set-off angles of 35
o
and 145
o
.

Week General method for all Conic Sections (Some combination of the following bits
may appear in paper)
6. Draw the straight line AB of any length. Mark a point F, 65mm from AB. Trace the paths of
a point P moving in such a way, that the ratio of its distance from the point F, to its
distance from AB is
(a) 1 (b) 2:3 (c) 3:2.
Draw a normal and a Tangent to the curve at a point on it:
(a) 50mm from F.
(b) 60 mm from the Directrix.
(c) 30 mm from Axis.
Extra Questions (Twisted)
7. Inscribe an Ellipse in a Rectangular Area 150mm in length and 100mm in width. Draw a
tangent to it at the point where the diagonal of the Rectangle intersects the curve.
Draw another ellipse parallel to the above ellipse with a gap of 15mm between them.
8. A stone thrown from ground travels a horizontal distance of 12 m before landing first time
on ground. Assuming that the maximum height reached is 7m, find the angle of
projection.
9. A point is at distances of 40mm and 60mm from two perpendicular lines. Draw a
Hyperbola passing through it considering the lines as Asymptotes.

14. Draw the Involute of an equilateral triangle of side 25mm.
15. Draw the curve traced out by an end of a thin wire unwound from a regular hexagon of
side 15mm, the wire being kept taut. Draw a tangent and normal to the curve at a point
80mm from the center of the hexagon.
16. A string of length 108mm is wound round a pentagon of 20mm side. Draw the path
traced by the end of the spring.
17. An inelastic string of length 100mm is wound round a circle of 26mm diameter. Draw the
path traced by its end.
