AMSEC/MECH III MECH A DRILL TEST- 5 GAS DYNAMICS AND JET PROPULSION

DATE: 04/03/14 Max.Marks:25 Max.Time:45mins FACULTY: E.HARIHARAN, AP/Mech

1. Give the difference between Normal and Oblique shock. (2)
2. Show the normal shock in h-s diagram with the help of Rayleigh line and Fanno line. (2)
3. Write the classification of Jet propulsion. (2)
4. Give the difference between turbo prop and turbojet engine. (2)
5. Find the ratio of jet speed to flight speed for propulsive efficiency. (2)
6. Air flows adiabatically in a pipe. A normal shock wave is formed. The pressure and temperature of air
before the shock are 150 Kpa and 298K respectively. The pressure just after normal shock is 350 Kpa.
Calculate: (i) Mach number before the shock (ii) Mach number, static temperature & velocity of air after the
shock wave (iii) Increase in density of air (iv) Loss of stagnation pressure of air (v) change in entropy. (15)
