Angry drivers are a
cause for concern
DRIVERS in the UK are be-
coming more aggressive,
with 61 per cent saying they
use their cars horn at least
once a month.
They are using the horn in
anger at other drivers rather
than its proper purpose of
warning other drivers of
your presence.
A study by Flexed shows
drivers are also using more
anti-social tactics than be-
fore, with 33 per cent of driv-
ers admitting to changing
lanes multiple times in traf-
fic jams to try to get ahead.
Other bad driving behav-
iour on the rise includes
pushing into traffic at road
junctions, jumping traffic
lights, driving in cycle lanes
and the hard shoulder, and
using the wrong lane to push
in front of a queue of cars.
As well as this sort of bad
driving, 18 per cent of driv-
ers say they never let other
drivers out of a side road in
a traffic jam. Drivers also
report that other road users
not moving with the flow of
traffic and motorcyclists fil-
tering through traffic queues
are a source of annoyance.
A police spokesman said:
Poor driving causes acci-
dents and could also lead to
prosecution.
All drivers should be cour-
teous, patient and consider-
ate with others, especially
more vulnerable road users
such as pedestrians, cyclists
and motorcyclists.
New drink-drive
campaign begins
DRIVERS are being urged to
pledge not to drink any alco-
hol before driving this sum-
mer as the police launches a
new drink-driving campaign.
The call comes from road
safety charity Brake, which
reports that the 2013 sum-
mer drink-driving campaign
by the police breathalysed
100,892 drivers and 5170 failed
the test.
This summers football
World Cup is a cause for con-
cern for the police as drivers
may be tempted to have an
alcoholic drink while watch-
ing a football match before
getting into their car.
The anti-drink-drive cam-
paign will run for a month,
including the duration of
the World Cup. It will see
increased roadside alcohol
and drug checks, as well as
informing drivers of the dan-
gers of drinking and driving.
Julie Townsend, deputy
chief executive of Brake,
said: Drink driving remains
one of the biggest killers on
our roads, yet every year
thousands of drivers risk it.
Thats why its so important
that the police are out in
force clamping down on this
selfish behaviour, now and
throughout the year.
Even if youre under the
limit, you can still be a dan-
ger, very small amounts of
alcohol significantly affect
your judgement and reac-
tions at the wheel.
We need everyone on
board with the message that
motor vehicles and alcohol,
in any amount, dont mix.
50 year celebration for
Ellesmere Port facility
VAUXHALL has celebrat-
ed 50 years of production
at its Ellesmere Port fa-
cility by recreating the
original 1964 press image
of the first vehicle com-
ing off the line, in the
same production loca-
tion with todays Astra
alongside.
The first new car to be
produced at Ellesmere
Port was a Vauxhall Viva
HA, a model name that
would run in a number of
variants until 1978, when
it was replaced by the Ch-
evette. The Viva cost 527
7s 11d at launch.
The first Astra, Vaux-
halls first front-wheel
drive car, was built on
16th November 1981. As-
tra has since become
Vauxhalls best seller.
Ellesmere Port was
built on the site of RAF
Hooton with construction
starting in 1962. It should
have been called Vaux-
hall Hooton Park but
this was changed shortly
before production began
as it was deemed to be
too close phonetically, to
Luton, which could have
caused much confusion
internally.
The factory came to
west Cheshire as a result
of a Government strat-
egy to develop production
plants with the Big Five
motor manufacturers in
new industrial develop-
ment areas.
Ellesmere Port has
weathered motor indus-
try storms over the years
and was recently threat-
ened with closure. The
determination of the
strong workforce work-
ing closely with the man-
agement team and UNITE
The Union has ensured
the plants survival into
the next decade with the
allocation of the next
generation Astra.

ise Collis is about to un-
dertake a years worth of
painting which will be dis-
played later on next year.
Louise Collis currently has
an exhibition where you
can view her great work at
Y Galeri, Caerphilly which
comprises of 33 vibrant oil
paintings.

Even with Louises pas-
sion for painting it is a
huge commitment but
is one she is very much
looking forward to. Using
the Kickstart fundraising
project, Louise hopes to
receive sufficient pledges
to finance the project.
