MAIN ENGINE FUEI PUMP OVERHAUUI{G PROCEDURE

MOUI{TING:
1 Mount the lifting tool on Barrer &
plunger
assembry which is ready for mounting.
2 Secure the tool to the Banel by tightening the two screws, and aftach the plunger to by tightening the centre the spindle of the tool
screw of the spindle. The tool is thus fixed on the barrel in such a way that its correct positioning
is ensured during mounting.
3 Make sure the
'Martlng"
on the plunger and barrel is on the cam side.
4 using the spindle of the tool, pull the plunger
as high up in the barrel as possible, at the same time turning the spindle so as to position
' the plunSer foot correctly in retation to the cutout of the regulating guide. Lock the stop rint in this postion
by means of the stop screw.
5 Before mounting the Barrel & Plunger assembly in the pump housing, lubricate the thread for the timing guide and all sealing rings
with molybdenum disulphide.
Pull the regulating toothed rack as far out as possible and check that the extractor tool is mounted corectry on the timing toothed rack
when this is in its outer position.
Check that the slot in the Barel coincides with the hole for the guide screw.
Lower the Barrel assembly carefully hto the pump housing. lf necessary turn the regulating guide a little (using the toothed rack) to
make the foot and the block of the plunger fit properly in the cutout of the regulating guide.
Lower the barrel assembly so far down into the pump housing that the sealing rings of the barrel are about to enter the bore in the
pump housing' Then continue pressing
down the barrel plunger assembly until the barrel assembly rests on top of the timing guide.
In this position,
slot in the Barrel will be visible from the hole of the Guide screw. There will a gap between the tool and the
pump
housing and Plunger foot wirt be just
above the bayonet
ioint
in the Roiler guide.

Loosen the nut on the extrirctor, disconnect the pulling rod from the timing toothed rack and remove the extrilctor.
En&ging the thread of the fuel pump barrel with the Timing guk e is accomplished by pressing-in the toothed rack.
Check that the toothed rack is correctty engagd by pressing-in the rack. When doing this the pump barrel shall more downwards.
After
'landing'
the barrel assembly, hoH the tool spindle and unloct the Stop Ring. Press the plunger down into contact with the thrust
piece of the Roller guide.
lnspect the position of the plunger foot through the inspection hole. When the plunger is in place, press the regulating rod in, thereby
turning the Plunger and causing the plunger foot to "interlock" with the bayonet
joint of the Roller guide. Checkt hat the plunger is
correctly engaged by pulling at the spindle of the lifting tool. When doing this, it is not be possible to lift the spindle (thus Plunger).
After Barrel & Plunger assembly is in position, place the Barrel guide screw and tighten.
Connet the links for the timing drive and the regulating drive. Mount the union and pointer for the timing drive and the regulating drive.
Dismount the lifting tool fro Barrel and Plunger assembly.
Mount the Fuel pump Top Cover after changin8 the sealing gasket..
