The document analyzes the spectral properties of four different light sources: an incandescent bulb, two sodium bulbs of different models, and a halogen bulb. For each light source, it determines the chromaticity coordinates (x, y, z), color temperature (CCT), and color rendering index (Ra). The incandescent bulb had a high Ra of 99, indicating excellent color rendering. One sodium bulb had a low CCT of 1901 and Ra of 10.5, producing an orange light. The other sodium bulb had a higher CCT of 5808 and Ra of 82.4, producing a white light. The halogen bulb had the highest CCT at 27979 but a lower Ra of 63.4, producing

AUTOMOTIVE LIGHTIG Spectrophotometric properties of light sources
In this laboratory exercise we have determined the parameters that describe the observating conditions of the surface illuminated by selected light source. The first light source we have measure was the incandescent bulb, obtaining the following results.
In the graphic we can see the spectrum of the spectrometer (blue line), and also in pink the real spectrum, corrected due to the spectrometer creates a mistake.
We also get the coordinates, that tells us the spectral distribution of selected light sources. In this first case, the coordinates are:
And the spectral distribution is the following one.
x= 0,4497 y= 0,4055 z= 0,1448
The color of white light is described by the color temperature, which is an objective measure of the color impression of the light source. Figure over the text shows the field of color temperature of white light in the xy colorimetric system. The Tc determines the color of the white light source on the basis of the similarity of the color of black body radiation heated to a given temperature. In terms of color temperature there are following types of light sources. For the incandescent bulb the CCT is:
If we look at the graphic again, we can observe that the result is correct due to that the cross that determine the color in the graphic corresponds with one value similar to 2800 in the color temperature scale, represented below the graphic.
CCT 2807
The parameter Ra is the color rendering index (CRI - color rendering index Ra ratio determines the extent to which the actual color of the subject is similar to the image seen when the investigated light source is used. The lower the Ra value, the worse they reproduce color of illuminated objects Ra color rendering index (CRI - color rendering index). Ra= 99,0
Color Rendering Index has a maximum value of 100, and the minimum perceptible difference of 5. It brings information about the extent to which the light source allows to observe colors. Values close to 100 characterize the best color rendering properties. The greater the requirement for the proper perception of colors, for example in the printing industry, textile industry, the color rendering index should be higher. Depending on activity it is recommended to use light sources with appropriate color rendering index Ra:
1) very high - Ra 90 - for workplaces where distinguishing colors is essential, such as control over color, textile and printing industries, shops,
2) high - 90> Ra 80 - offices, textiles, precision, in classrooms and lecture
3) medium and low - 80> Ra 40 - other works, such as rolling mills, forges, warehouses, boiler rooms, foundries, mills and wherever distinguishing colors is not essential or critical.
The incandescent bulb has a Ra near 100, what it characterizes the best color rendering properties.
The second source tested was a sodium bulb. The results are the following ones.
In the graphic we can see the spectrum of the spectrometer (blue line), and also in pink the real spectrum, corrected due to the spectrometer creates a mistake.
The coordinates for the second source are!
x= 0,5378 y= 0,4114 z= 0,0508
The spectral distribution is represented in the next graphic"
The Tc that determines the color of the white light source on the basis of the similarity of the color of black body radiation heated to a given temperature is 1901, for the sodium bulb
We check the spectral distribution is graphic we can see that for this value of CCT, the color of the lamp is orange. Its also marked in the graphic with one cross. The color is orange, as we saw in the laboratory. So we can conclude that the results are correct. The Ra color rendering index (CRI - color rendering index) is Ra= 10,5
Which is quite low.
CCT 1901 The third source tested was also a sodium bulb, but different model. The results are the following ones.
In the graphic we can see the spectrum of the spectrometer (blue line), and also in pink the real spectrum, corrected due to the spectrometer creates a mistake. The coordinates for the second source are: x= 0,3264 y= 0,3232 z= 0,3504

The Tc that determines the color of the white light source on the basis of the similarity of the color of black body radiation heated to a given temperature is 5808, for the second sodium bulb.
CCT 5808
We check again the spectral distribution is graphic we can see that for this value of CCT, the color of the lamp is white. Its also marked in the graphic with one cross. The Ra color rendering index (CRI - color rendering index) is Ra= 82,4
Its fairly good, due to this value is high. We have to remind that the maximum value is 100.

As in the others graphic we can see the spectrum of the spectrometer (blue line), and also in pink the real spectrum, corrected due to the spectrometer creates a mistake. The coordinates for the second source are:

The Tc that determines the color of the white light source on the basis of the similarity of the color of black body radiation heated to a given temperature is 27979, for the halogen bulb. CCT 27979
We check the spectral distribution is graphic we can see that for this value of CCT, the color of the lamp is white but with a blue tone. Its also marked in the graphic with one cross. The color is almost blue, as we saw in the laboratory. Most of the halogen bulbs have the same characteristic color. So we can conclude that the results are also correct. The Ra color rendering index (CRI - color rendering index) is Ra= 63,4
