Introduction

communication & information related equipment, electronic devices & components,
PlayStation and many more. Sony has emerge with the mission to lead new technologies,
content and services together in an unprecedented ways that enable people to reshape
their perception of the world that could enhance their lives.

Sony is well known for being a leading global manufacturer of
audio,video,communications and information consumers at home and they also have
reached out to larger businesses worldwide.Eventhough the company has emerge as the
successful producer in electronics business, there are various criticism against it.data and
information privacy, cyber-attacks and creating a phonic film critic in order to provide
positive reviews for their films including for pressuring retailers to sell software for its
PlayStation are some of the example of issues and ethics Sony corporation.

Personal details privacy

Under the Act 1988,The Australian Privacy Commissioners commenced an investigation
when approximately about 77 million of customers of the Sony PlayStations Network
personal information was comprised, including the Australian customer. The personal
information compromised by the incident includes credit cards details. The information
was sought by the Privacy Commissioner from Sony computer entertainment Australia
Pty Ltd, who provided information on behalf of Sony Australia and other company which
are related. Sony Australia is a subsidiary of Sony computer entertainment Europe
limited (SCE Europe). Sony Network Entertainment Europe Limited (SNEE) is a wholly
owned subsidiary of SCE Europe that operates the PlayStation Network for individuals in
Australia.
In order to access the Network Platform, an individual will have to create an account,
where they will also include a various personal data to (SNEE) which is not an Australian
company. Thus, when this incident happens, the data were stored in a Data Centre in San
Diego, California. Meanwhile, Sony Australia does not have the responsibilities to play
any role in the provision of the network platform and even do not hold the personal data
provided by the consumers when they create their accounts. Sony Australia had not
breached the privacy Act, the Privacy Commissioners concluded. As it held no personal
information relating to the incident. The Privacy Commissioner obtained information on
the interrelationship of various Sony entities involved in the matter, during the
investigation of the course. When large global companies undertake different functions
related to the provision of services and products including the collection of personal
details, the interrelationship of the various Sony entities demonstrates the potential
challenges of the government.





Ethical issues surrounding the Sony Rootkit

disguise spyware where it is termed as a cloaking technology that could make several files,
registry keys, and any other systems invisible from diagnostic and security software. If it has

responded to offer a piece of software that has been assumed to remove the rootkit, meanwhile, it
was not malicious and security was not also compromised. The issues grew on more even worst
when the company got to be the cause of frustration for many people who addicted to music with
its complicated uninstalls process, where its required them to disclose their email addresses and
make them to simply visit to their official websites more often. The companies of an anti-virus
then claimed that they had detected malicious software on the internet that was aimed at the
vulnerability that was created by the rootkit. According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC),
the anti-piracy software or known as rootkit, not only would be able to limit the usage of the
CDs, but could also be able to pose on serious security risk. The issues erupted about two years
ago, when the news stunned that Sony was embedding copy protection software in its CDs.It is
unlawful and intrusive to install the software as it will tend to create a security risk. Sony was
then reached a proposed settlement with the FTC over the controversial installing of the rootkit
in its CDs without the users knowledge. Consumers would be able to exchanges their Sony CDs
and may also receive the reimbursements to repair their damaged computers when the users
attempted to remove the rootkit software under the proposed settlement.it is also stated that the
company should disclose limitations on consumers use of the musics CDs, prohibits the
company from collecting user information for marketing and from installing software without
users consent. An easy way for the users is required to be provided by the Sony Corporation to
uninstall the rootkit software without any problem. The FTC stated in a statement that the
computers of the consumers belongs to them, adequate disclose unexpected limitations by the
company should made on the customary use of their products so consumers can make informed
decisions on whether they want to purchase and install that content or not is based on their
choice. Millions of CDs has been recalled by the company into which the rootkit technology had
been embedded. They also required paying a total of$5.75 million as fines to 41 states. $175 was
paid in reimbursements per consumer in those states where their computers were damaged when
they attempt to uninstall the rootkit software.

Strengths and weaknesses
Throughout the assignment progression for this module, I as being one of the group member
learned about few things that actually reflects some of my weaknesses as well as what the plus
point that I have. We work well as one team as we unite together to provide and explain each one
of our different ideas to do the assignment. We learn to respect our views and the team members
as well as we discuss on which is the better point to do. Thus, in a communication wise, I found
for myself that I did tolerate well with my team members, the thought that I had shared with my
group members. I feel grateful and appreciated as my idea was accepted well and on what I had
contributes in the assignment.Eventhough it was very limited time, but I did manage myself to
do the assignment in a very fine way. I was helped by my team members, we did cooperate well
and this has leaded us to finish the whole assignment successfully. We do agree on the correct
points and give a positive feedback to the points that are not related and which we are not
agreeing with. If we found the task is difficult to do, we do helping with each other by sharing
the information.by this, we also developed good communication skills within us. Moreover, I
have learnt on the responsibilities that I should fulfill in order to emerge with a successful
assignment. Whatever obstacles appeared, I still need to fulfill my responsibilities without giving
any lame reason on why I could not do with my assignment.Sometimes,I need to sacrifice my
time from doing any other work and focus on doing with this assignment. This is where I also
had learned on how to be more independent. I do finish my task on time and work hard at first
before asking to anyone if I do not understand. I keep trying and trying until I do manage to get
the solution and went on did on more research about the assignment.meanwhile,in a very limited
time, I believe that every single thing can be done without giving a reason from avoiding to do
it.there is where I believe nothing is impossible and everything can be done if we put the
confidence and do some extra hard work or efforts that actually can produce a good fruit at
last.thus,eventhough I was placed or grouped in a different group, but I still can work as a great
team member. I did tolerate well with cooperating with my group leader. I was motivated as I
concentrate well when doing on this assignment.eventhough there were few critics, I do accept it
wholeheartedly as it is one of my weaknesses and this is the time where I can build it up to be a
better person. With this situation that I came across, I believe I will be able to work well as a
team when I am assigned to a project in the future. I does need to meet with new people and
must be able to fit with the environment well. Rather than I create a bad image for myself with
not satisfying with the environment, working together brings unity and a harmony relationship
between us.im proud of being in my group and hope for everything that we have done should
have good rewards later.
Improvements
On the other hand, I believe that there is also some points that I need to look upon and go
through my own personalities that I need to improve to become a better person.as I can see, the
time was limited, and somehow I managed to finish my task on the time that was given but, I
agree that I was too slow to find on the information about the task that was given to me.in this
case, at some point I was actually tend to give up on doing the task because I was tensed up with
the other assignment as well, where I could find the time management was not that great.But,as I
grew maturedly,i learned that I should not tense up and stress on myself and believe that
everything can be done until the last hour. There is where I have also learnt to change on myself
without having bad intentions but having good or positive thoughts that everything can be done
in a very fine way. I can be a better person with producing a better result. Working on this
assignment really reflects the image of me from the weaknesses of my personality to the good
plus point of me. Throughout the assignment, my communication and personal skills have well
developed and this has leaded me to work well as a team member for my group.
