DAN YASHINSKY is a
defnitve Canadian
storyteller, author,
and community
organizer who
founded the
Toronto Festval of
Storytelling in 1979,
and co-founded the Storytellers School
of Toronto. He is the editor of four
collectons of Canadian storytelling,
and received the frst Jane Jacobs Prize
in 1999 to honour his contributons as
a storyteller to Torontos cultural life.
Talking You In, a piece he created with
composer/musician Brian Katz, toured
to the Barbican (London), Natonal Arts
Centre (Otawa), and festvals in Wales,
Holland, and Canada.

The FUNKY MAMAS have been
putng the fun in funky since 1998
with their winning combinaton of
folk, funk, bluegrass and blues. The
Guelph quartets gentle harmonies,
and gleeful good humour captvate

SARAH GRANSKOU and SARAH
MARSH are also known as SARAH

THEATRE Company. Together they
bring a performing arts project
featuring puppets, local children,
and stories writen by the children
and Sarah Granskou, a seasoned
storyteller who draws from her own
Nordic heritage through music and
story. And there will be a folk song
or two.
JAN SHERMAN is an Anishnaabe
Mets woman, mother, storyteller,
drummer and singer, and a member
of the Guelph Aboriginal community.
Jan has been gathering stories into
her heart and sharing them since
she was a child. Her traditonal First
Natons storytelling has taken her to
California, Kauai, and Australia.

KEVIN SYLVESTER
is an award-
winning
illustrator, writer
and broadcaster
based in Toronto.
His series, The
Neil Flambe
Capers, won the 2011 Silver Birch
award for Ficton and the Silver Birch
for Non-Ficton in 2012 for Dont
Touch that Toad, which he illustrated
for Cathy Rondina. He has also been a
broadcaster with CBC Radio in Canada
for years. Kevin is on our cofeehouse
stage telling stories about strange
moments in sports, and doodling at

has told stories at

He tells folk tales,
literary classics and personal stories.
He has told all over North America and
the UK, for all ages and in every type of

JOJO WORTHINGTON is an
independent artst
from Waterloo
known for her avid
songwritng on the
ukulele. Currently
enrolled in the
music industry
arts program at
Fanshawe College in London, JoJo
recently released her third album and
is one of three fnalists selected to play
Mariposa Folk Festval this July.

BADEN GUILD OF STORYTELLERS
hail from Cambridge, New Hamburg,
Guelph, London, Burlington,
Brampton, Kitchener-Waterloo, Elmira,
and Baden. Since 1989, the guild has
been the forum for those who wish
to work together to learn more about
the art of storytelling. The guild meets
on the second Friday of the month,
from September through June, at 7:30
p.m. in the Buton Factory in Waterloo.

by Dwight Storring, in partnership
with the City of Kitcheners arts and
culture unit and Lattudes for the
citys 100

anniversary of cityhood,
celebrated in 2012.
Made in Kitchener combines
selected interviews from an archive
of oral histories collected as part
of the City of Kitcheners Industrial
Artfacts Project with other archival
material and contemporary photos
and video. Through the lens of
personal stories, people describe
their working lives. Pick up a free
guidebook at our book stall. Prepare
to walk, and prepare to engage with
the past in an innovatve way.
JANICE LEE is a
singer-songwriter,
poet, actor, and
actvist rooted
in Kitchener,
Ontario. She
currently
performs music
and poetry solo,
and with her band, Janice Lee and
the Free Radicals. She is a head
organizer and spoken word poet
with the KW Poetry Slam. In June
2012, she received a Leading Edge
Waterloo Region Arts Award for her
community-building through the

SHEILA DIEMERT spent a summer
paintng murals at a hostel in
Tanzania, east Africa, which
became a turning point for
her. The experience illustrated
the importance of art as a
communicaton tool, uplifing while
telling a story. Her paintngs capture
and convey emoton, personality
and spirit. In additon to installatons
in Tanzania, Sheila maintains a
residence and studio in Kitchener-
Waterloo. Her exhibit is located at
Jubilee Drive and Heins Avenue.

community as a blank canvas. On

with the ART INNOVATORS, a drawing-
based program using new and
varied art media and a mult-cultural
curriculum. On Sunday, join LAURA
PEART-McBRIDE in some fairy-door,
story-based crafs.
ALEX VAN GAALEN was born in
Utrecht, the Netherlands. He moved to
Kitchener with his family in 2007. He
started paintng in 2003 and is a self-
taught artst working in a classical and
realist manner. He gets his inspiraton
from his multcultural family and is
interested in people with interestng
features which has resulted in several
portraits. He works in oil and pastel.
