own set of utilities and allows for the creation of third part, modules to

characteristics added to the strong reporting capabilities make it the best
choice for implementing an 9sterisk:based P48.

!nsert the &lastix installation C1 at the same time that ,ou turn on the machine. 9fter this is
done> the following screen will appear(
!f ,ou are an expert user> ,ou can enter in an ad$anced mode b, t,ping the command(

;therwise> wait and the installation C1 will start the installation automaticall, or ,ou can press
enter.
Proceed to select the t,pe of ke,board that corresponds to ,our language. !f ,our ke,board is

)elect the time=one of ,our region(

critical part of the securit, of the s,stem.

+his area is for handsets> softphones> paging s,stems> or an,thing
else that could be considered an EextensionE in the classical P48
context.
1efining and editing extensions is probabl, the most common task
performed b, a P48 administrator> and as such> ,ouEll find ,ouEll
become $er, familiar with this page. +here are presentl, four t,pes of
de$ices supported : )!P> !982> F9P and ECustomE.
+o create a GNew &xtensionH> go to the GP48H menu> which b, default goes to the
GConfiguration P48H sectionI in this section> choose the option G&xtensionsH on the left
panel. Now we can create a new extension.
#irst> choose the de$ice from among the a$ailable options(

to know this password to configure their software.

4, configuring a softphone telephone> what we achie$e is to ha$e a connected PC that
ser$es the same functions as a con$entional telephone. #or this> we will need to install a
software that will con$ert ,our PC into a telephone. 9lso> headphones and a microphone
are necessar,. +here are $arious options for softphones> and among them are the

;nce we ha$e downloaded and installed !1&#!)C> letEs proceed to its configuration. #or
that> click on the icon that looks like a tool and create a )!P extension. !n this example>
extension 271 is configured and itEs supposed that the !P assigned to the s,stem is
162.125.1.171.
Next> letEs go to the G9udio CodecsH section and select all of the a$ailable codecs. <e
appl, the changes and click on the GRegisterH button> so that our telephone registers in
the s,stem.

e) 0ecor"ing of welcome1greeting message
+his section describes how to record a message or acti$ate one that was created in
another medium.
+o access this module> go to the GP48H menu> where the GConfiguration P48H section
will appear b, default. !n the left panel> choose the G),stem RecordingsH option.
+he first option that we ha$e is to create an announcement b, recording it directl,. #or
this> we will need to enter the extension from which we want to make the recording>
which in this cas is extension 271> then we can click on the G-oH button.
Next> 9sterisk will be waiting for our recording at extension 271> and to continue> we
ha$e to punch in M33. 9fter recording our message> press the pound sign BN).
+o re$iew our recording> press M66> enter the name of the recording and click on the
G)a$eH button.
+he second option that we ha$e is to upload a recording that was created in another
medium. #or that> we will need to ha$e a file thatEs supported b, 9steriskI click on the
G#indH button and locate our file. +hen> continue to gi$e the recording a name and>
finall,> click on the G)a$eH button.

+he !"R allows us to record a welcome message and allows us to ha$e a menu
controlled b, the telephone ke,s B17 number ke,s> plus the s,mbols pound ENE and
asterisk EME). <ith this> it is possible to send the call to another destination or to the !"R
that sent the announcement.
+o access the G!"RH module> go to the GP48H menu> which appears b, default in the
GConfiguration P48H section. !n the left panel> choose the G!"RH option.
+o record a welcome or greeting message> go to the G),stem RecordingsH section> for
example(
!"R( G+hank ,ou for calling &lastix. !f ,ou know the extension> please dial it now.
;therwise> sta, on the line and an operator will be with ,ou shortl,H.
+o add a new !"R> itEs not necessar, to complete all of the fields> and in our case Ba
welcomegreeting !"R)> we do not need options.
+he necessar, fields are the following(
Change Name( +o change the name> weEll put <elcome.
+imeout( <aiting time Bin seconds) before the call is routed to an operator after the
welcome message is pla,ed. #or this example> we will use 3.
&nable direct dial( 9n option that permits the caller to dial an extension directl, en case
he or she knows it> without ha$ing to wait for the operator.
9nnouncement( +his is the announcement or welcome message that was recorded
earlier. !t will appear in a list with all of the a$ailable messages.
Now we can proceed to configure certain options that are freDuentl, used. +he first is the
option 7 B=ero) that allows us to go directl, to the operator and the second is also to go to
the operator> but the caller has to listen to the welcome message and wait for the time
that was configured earlier to pass.
9mong the a$ailable options on the menu> in the left part there is a box where ,ou
should put the option. #or the first one B=ero)> weEll put that in the box and assign an
extension that was pre$iousl, configuredI this extension will be the operator.
+hese extensions will appear after the option GCoreH.
Now weEll proceed to configure the second option Bto go to the operator after the
welcome message is pla,ed and the waiting time is o$er). !n the box to the left> put the
letter GtH> which means timeout and weEll assign the operatorEs extension.

option to execute.

for the &lastix <eb !nterface.
+o change the theme> choose from the a$ailable options and click on the GChangeH
button.

+he option GPort 1etailsH from the G),stem !nformationH menu in &lastix allows us
to detect telephone hardware that is a$ailable on our machine. +hatEs to sa,> the
telephone cards that are installed.
+he list that ,ou will see after logging into this section will be all of the cards that
ha$e been installed and are functioning. 9lso> ,ou can see the ports that are still
a$ailable Bnot in use) for new telephone cards.
+o detect new telephonic hardware> click on the G1etect ?ardwareH button and it
will list all of the a$ailable cards including GRecentl, !nstalled New CardsH.

+o edit a file> click on the file and the file will appear in edit mode(
Proceed to edit the file of configuration> and after it is complete> click on the

click on the G4ackH button.

all the $irtual faxes> including the status of each one.

!n the upper part> there are two buttons. +he first button G&ditH lets us edit the data
about the $irtual fax.
9nd the second button G1eleteH lets us delete the $irtual fax.
!f we proceed to edit> weOll ha$e the following(

changes or GCancelH to return without sa$ing the changes.

+o create a new $irtual fax> input the name> e:mail> extension and secret code for the
$irtual fax ::these are the reDuired fields. 4esides these> there are 2 other fields that
are the name of the Caller !1 and the number of the Caller !1. 9fter this information
is added> click on the G)a$eH button to sa$e the $irtual fax or GCancelH to lea$e
without sa$ing.
Note that the extension of the $irtual fax will be used to recei$e the fax.

+he option G#ax %asterH of the %enu G#98H in &lastix lets us input the email
address of the administrator of the #ax> and this email will recei$e notifications of
the messages recei$ed> errors and other acti$ities of the #ax )er$er.
Proceed to input the email of the administrator of the fax and click on the G9ppl,
ChangesH button.

+he option G#ax ClientsH of the %enu G#98H in &lastix lets us input the !Ps that
ha$e permission to send faxes through &lastix.
Proceed to input the !Ps> one !P per line and click on the G9ppl, ChangesH button.
!t is recommended that ,ou input the !P 123.7.7.1 and localhost in the configuration
because some processes might need to use them.
; Fax Visor
+he option G#ax "isorH of the %enu G#axH in &lastix lets us $iew a list with details
of the faxes recei$ed.
4esides this> we ha$e the option to download the fax in P1# format> b, clicking on
the desired file in the list of faxes recei$ed.
+he report will change depending on the $alues of the filter(

+he option G1omainsH of the %enu G&mailH in &lastix lets us $iew and configure the
domains in the email ser$er.

Clicking on the names of the domains will bring us to a screen that shows the data of
the domain.
+o delete a domain> click on the G1eleteH button.
,reate Domain
+o add a domain> click on the GCreate 1omainH button. 9 form will be shown where
,ou will input the name of the new domain(

+he option G9ccountsH of the %enu G&mailH in &lastix lets us $iew and configure
the email accounts for each of the domains specified in the ser$er.

Clicking on the name of the account will bring us to a screen that shows the data for
the account.
+o delete an account> click on the G1eleteH button.
*ou can also modif, the account information b, clicking on the G&ditH button. +he
information that can be changed are( Quota and Password.

+o add a new account> select the domain under which it will be created and click on
the GCreate 9ccountH button. 9 form will appear in which ,ou will input the
information for the following fields(

Quota +he maximum space that this email account can use for
the storage of emails on the ser$er. +he space is measured
in kilob,tes> so please be aware of this when the Duota
amounts are assigned for each user.
Password +he password of the user of the email account
Ret,pe password Confirmation of the password of the user

4, default> the email ser$er doesnOt recei$e emails for accounts that are not found in
the domains. +he purpose of this is to pre$ent the ser$er from being used for spam
applications or trash and to pre$ent the unnecessar, utili=ation of s,stem resources.
4ut there are some cases where it is necessar, to acti$ate this option for certain
networks> such as> the internal network of a compan,. +his wa,> the users can use the
email ser$er in &lastix to send emails to destinations that are outside of the domain
of the s,stem. !n the option GRela,H it is specified the networks in which &lastix
allows ,ou to connect and use the ser$er to send emails. +he networks should be
inputted as !P%9)C9R9. #or example( 162.125.1.72..
