What is a dissertation?

Well, you’ll be nowhere near to writing a dissertation as it would take much more time and lot more effort. You’ll have to
submit a dissertation on completion of your bachelor’s or master’s degree, but that will be in a few years time….
Now it is just time for you to get the hang of how things are/should be done, so you are required to write a summary of your
research work following the outline of a dissertation. Instead of 100 pages, you’ll write about five.

A typical dissertation has:

A title page
An abstract (a summary of the dissertation including main findings)
A table of contents
Chapter 1 – Introduction – the problem that gave rise to your research, your objectives and research questions
Chapter 2 – The ‘theory’ and the concepts that guide your research; reviewing of literature
Chapter 3 – The methodology – why and which research methods and tools you selected
Chapter 4 – Presentation and discussion of the information/data you collected (your findings)
Chapter 5 – Conclusions and recommendations (future research)
References or Bibliography
