Election Personnel Exam Handbook

1.0 ARRIVAL TIME



On Voting Day, election officials must arrive at the voting place no later than 9:00 a.m.
The voting place must remain open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Election officials are advised to pack their own lunch and dinner as they must remain in the voting
place at all times.



2.0 VOTER QUALIFICATIONS

Generally, a person is entitled to vote in the 2014 Municipal Election if he or she is:
a Canadian citizen; and
at least 18 years of age; and
a resident in the City of Markham or a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the City of
Markham or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant; and
not prohibited by law from voting.



3.0 ELECTOR QUALIFICATIONS

In addition to the general voter qualifications above (section 2.0):
In order to vote for the English Public School Board you must be a Public School supporter
In order to vote for the French Public School Board you must be a French Public School
supporter
In order to vote for the English Separate (Catholic) School Board you must be a Catholic School
Board supporter
In order to vote for the French Separate (Catholic) School Board you must be a French Catholic
School Board supporter

Non-resident owners or tenants of commercially and industrially assessed lands are not eligible to
vote for school Board purposes.



4.0 MARKING THE BALLOT

Voters in the 2014 Municipal Election will vote by filling in the oval to the right of the name of the
candidate of their choice.
Visually impaired voters may vote using an audio ballot marking device.

5.0 An MDRO is required to place all Voting Place supplies into the supply box (DRO envelopes, etc.)
and seal the Box with the MDRO seals provided. The large vote tabulator stand (once emptied) can be
left behind inside of the Voting Place.
The Pink Election Results Envelope and Envelope As from the DROs (containing Applications to
Amend the Voters List) MUST NOT be placed inside of the sealed Election Supply Box as staff may need
to access this later on Election Night. Return the sealed Election Supply Box as well as the Pink Election
Results Envelope and Envelope As to your designated Election Supplies Return Centre:
