ANALYSIS

1. Does the area of contact affect the coefficient of friction?

Defend your answer.

No, the area doesnt affect the coefficient of friction.
Coefficient of friction varies on the object which interacts
with each other. An example is an interaction between ice to
steel and a rubber band to steel. We know that this two has a
different coefficient of friction.

2. Why is it necessary to observe uniform motion of the block in
each procedure of the experiment?

This is because having a uniform motion means having a
constant kinetic friction. Therefore, by having a uniform motion
in this experiment can give us a more accurate coefficient of
friction.

3. How is the tan (angle of inclination) in table 2 related to
(coefficient of friction) in table 2?

Based on eqn.3 ( we can say that the angle of
inclination is directly proportional to the coefficient of
friction. It means that as the angle of inclination increases,
the coefficient of friction also increases.

CONCLUSION:

1. Are the objectives of the experiment met? Explain.

Yes, the objectives of the experiment have been met. Based
ob the experiment that we performed and based on the date that
we acquired, we can say that we need a uniform motion to have a
constant kinetic friction. Also we have proved that as the angle
of inclination increases, the coefficient of friction also
increases.

2. Discuss the practical application of the concepts learned
from the experiment.

Some of the practical applications are when transferring an
object using an inclined plane. You need the right amount of
force for the object to move. Also in this example coefficient
of friction, normal force and weight is present in the system.
Other object with smooth surfaces can easily slip along the
inclined plane.
