Web Development Interview Questions

1. Do you prefer to work alone or on a team? It doesnt matter to me, I like to work
alone but Im sure I would make an excellent addition in a team.
2. What skills and technologies are you the most interested in improving
upon or learning? Im interested in improving on how competent I am in java
programming. With everything going mobile and android becoming so popular I
expect to learn even more about java.
3. What is the w3c? World Wide Web Consortium. They are the group that is
trying to bring standards to the web (although there are way too many that don't
listen.)
4. What are a few of your favorite development tools and why? I like
ConTEXT for coding, and XAMP for database interaction.
5. What are a few sites you admire and why? 2Advanced. They have amazing
flash design. 9rules. Great community. Good Organization. Nice clean
straightforward look.
6. I just pulled up a website you built and the browser is displaying a
blank page. Walk me through the steps you'd take to troubleshoot the
problem.
Did you type the URL correctly?
Do other pages from the same site show up?
Are other site that are on the same machine available?
Does it show up in a different browser?
Can you view the source?
7. What is your favorite development language and why? PHP. Open
source. Simple, yet powerful. Good documentation.
8. Do you find any particular languages or technologies intimidating? I
never really cared for C (I liked C++ much better). I'm quite interested in what
the "up and coming" technology is. I just find there isn't as much time to explore
all of them to figure out which one is going to be beneficial.
9. HTML, CSS, WYSIWYG? Hyper Text Markup Language. Cascading Style Sheet,
What you see is what you get (plus normally a lot more code than you wanted)
10. What web browser do you use? Firefox for normal browsing and Firefox for
most testing.
11. What Industry sites and blogs do you read regularly? I consistently read
Matt Cutts, Jim Boykin , and Brue Clay . I also have some other favorites like
Shoemoney , 9-rules (Design) , Aaron Wall , SEOmoz , Devlounge , and
Stuntdubl .
12. How comfortable are you with writing HTML entirely by hand? What,
you mean people don't normally do that? We do everything by hand because of
the control it gives over the code.
13. What motivates you to do a good job? i want recognition for a job well
done. I want to become better at my job.
14. What's your greatest strength? i am someone who thrives under pressure, a
great motivator
15. What's your biggest weakness? I've been told I occasionally focus on small
details and miss the bigger picture, so I've been spending time laying out the
complete project every day to see my overall progress.
16. Would you rather be liked or feared? Neither, I'd rather be respected.
17. Where do you want to be five years from now? In five years I hope to
develop professionally and take on additional responsibilities at that particular
company.
18. Tell me about yourself. I am completing a bachelors of computer information
science degree at northern Caribbean university. I have studied extensively in
the area of web design and recently got the opportunity to put my skills to use in
the real world at Blue Ember Concepts, where I worked for a while.
19. What are some of the considerations you should take when designing a
web site?
i) Purpose. First ask :"Why are we building this website?"
ii) Audience: Know who you are talking to. More importantly, ask "who do we
want to talk to?" A design should speak to the right age group.
iii) Keep it Simple: A great site is simple to use and is easy to understand.
iv) Competition: Research what your competitors are doing
and differentiate your website.
20. Discuss and compare the two major image formats used for web
pages.- JPG and PNG. You use jpg for smooth toned images such as
photographs or artwork and you use png for low or flat color images such as
logos or background images.
21. What are the top 5 or 10 characteristics of a good Web site?
(1) Appearance a site must be visually appealing and professional. Good
use of color, Text that is easily read
(2) Content Along with style, your site must have substance
(3) Functionality every component of your site should work quickly and
correctly.
(4) Usability your site must be easy to read, navigate, and understand, fast
loading pages.
(5) Easy Navigation
(6) Unique the most successful websites will stand out from the crowd.
22) What is a loop-back address? Loopback address is a special IP number
(127.0.0.1) that is used as a computer's loopback address. IT professionals to test
IP software and websites on localhost.
23) What do you do when you're faced with something you've never done
before or if you're stuck on a problem? First of all, make sure you understand
the problem. There are no stupid questions. If the problem is understandable, then
there is technology that can solve the problem, but you just don't know enough so
research it on the internet.

Do some research. Never say that the problem is unsolvable, unless you know
exactly why and you can clarify
24) Explain the following: web server, client-side scripting, server-side
scripting.
web server: either the hardware or the software that helps to deliver web content
that can be accessed through the Internet.
Client-side scripting: class of computer programs that are executed by the
user's web browser
Server-side scripting: class of computer programs that are executed on the web
server
25) How would you advise someone who wants to be enrolled in the
Computer Information Science vs. the Computer Science program at NCU?
CIS is computer science with general business courses added, The core CS courses
will be there but not much specialization in CS while Computer Science itself
comprises the core courses plus many possible specializations such as networking or
programming.
26) Where do you see yourself five years? Sir, since these 5 years are the starting
years of my career. I want to devote my years to hard work. This will make me
smart and professional in work. And I am sure I will become valuable assets of your
organization.

27) Why should we hire you? Sir, I don't have any professional experience yet but I
have certain knowledge and confidence about me to prove myself. If given a chance
I will definitely prove my worth to the company and I also wanted to start my career
with a reputed company like you.

I like playing all out door games like volleyball and I like

29) Why do you want to work at our company? Sir, I want a good platform to start
my carrier and improve all my skills. So I think that your company is the best one to
satisfy all those things I want to do. For these reasons I want to work at your
company.
30) Who has inspired you and why? In this world no one is perfect. Everybody have
their own positives and Negatives. I take the positives of each person I met as an
inspiration to me.
31) Explain how you would be an asset to this organization? Qualification &
Experience are important but what matters a lot is your confidence level & right
attitude. I always give my best efforts. Even if fail, I know how to handle my failure
& get up again. This kind of attitude is very rare & I am sure you will also agree to
this.
32) What makes you angry? I don't get angry very easily. As I am a calm person and
I know how to control my anger. But yes if someone ignores me without any reason
it sometimes makes me angry.
