Suffering as an illusion

The belief itself ( suffering in general)
$7 believe that suffering is just a signal that tells me to open the future. 7 believe it occurs
8hen 7 am afraid of losing something or not obtaining it or having lost something. 7 also
believe that it comes from unresolved climates or tensions.
Where does the data come from?
9rom my spiritual orientor as 8ell as fom o8n e(periences
Illusion
7 believe suffering is real although 7 thin: 7 create it. 7 don;t really see it as just another belief
that can be moved. 7 thin: it 8ill go a8ay the more understanding 7 have of it. 7 don;t see the
contradictions at its root , nor its possessive nature nor that it is al8ays lin:ed to some
desire, that 7 8ant to have or not lose. 3nd 7 don;t see it as an illusion, it seems real. 7t is
rather absurd that 7 8ant to be in control because this $7% is also an illusion. 7t is neither firm
nor fi(ed and the fear of loosing it is ultimately at the root of all suffering.
Climate
<hen thin:ing about suffering 7 have this feeling of hope, of freedom, of not being so
enchained. 7 feel li:e 7 am in control, 5this $7% that is the ultimate root of suffering6. 7 sense
that myeyes are glad, and 7 feel e(pansive and secure.
But then there is this fear of falling, of being again in the grips of suffering, this lac: of faith,
this doubt. 7 feel it in my bac: as 8ell as in the bac: of the head. 7 also feel that my mouth,
eyes and throat get contracted.
Correct/ incorrect behaviour:
Correct behavior is not to be ta:en by situations, remembering the register of non suffering,
li:e peace, force and joy.
7ncorrect is to believe in the registers of suffering. <orse even is thin:ing that they are
provo:ed from outside, by other people etc.
What do I gain by having this belief?
9irst of all there is this security of :no8ing 8hat suffering is all about, having things clear,
:no8ing clear indicators of suffering and non=suffering. 7 feel pleasure 8hen suffering is not
there and then 7 gain prestige for :no8ing something so important.
Why dont I let go of this belief?
*aving this belief ma:es me feel more intact, especially that my $7% is there, not dissolving at
all.
7f 7 don;t have this belief that ma:es me feel 7 can control suffering, 7 8ill be at the mercy of it,
thro8n about, having no clear references as different phenomenon pull me in one direction
or the other. >uring my 8hole life 7 8ill not :no8 8hether 7 8ill continue or not or for that
matter 8hether 7 have any control over ho8 7 feel e(cept to put faith in some temporary
compensations that either leave me frustrated or empty.
"his fear clearly motivates me to have that belief%.
3fter you have analyzed your o8n beliefs in a similar fashion it 8ould be interesting for you to
let go of the climate associated 8ith these beliefs. erhaps you 8ill then feel very loose and
open inside. !r perhaps you feel something different from that.
3fter this you might 8ant to go through the process of feeling a deep intention of being able
to feel non=suffering. -tarting 8ith analyzing the favorable situations 8hen you didn;t suffer,
li:e 8hen you 8ere in the presence of your >irection or urpose in life or 8hen you really did
something for others.
"hen you 8ould try to see 8hat has been in common in the $unfavorable% situations, that is
8hen you suffered and believed in the reality of it.
3fter that you 8ould go through the process of the deep intention, ending 8ith having a clear
physical register of ho8 this intention manifests itself physically. erhaps you feel a
profound peace all over as 8ell as feeling very strong and 8hole every8here and feeling that
you 8ant to launch for8ard. 3nd there might be this feeling of joy and 8armth in your chest
as 8ell as generally feeling very light. !r you may feel the intention differently.
&ou are no8 ready for the entire process of transformation, at the end of 8hich you 8ill
hopefully have a clear register of non=suffering.
3s usual, you start by having very clear 8hat and 8hy you 8ant to e(perience that and also
ho8 you 8ill go about it. &ou also try to picture yourself 8hat it 8ould be li:e not to suffer,
remembering the moments that this happened to you, seeing yourself clearly as such and
feeling 8hat it 8ould be li:e not to suffer.
3t that point you may come to the conclusion that the register of non=suffering has to do 8ith
feeling peace or the feeling of being reconciled 8ith all and everything. 3lso, a feeling of
great strength, a vital force that comes into play 8hen 8e 8e :no8 8hat 8e are doing, 8hen
8e have faith in ourselves and our surroundings. 9inally, a sense of joy, as 8hen 8e are
open to the future, 8hen 8e are loo:ing for8ard to it, 8hen 8e have faith in future
possibilities. <hen it simply feels great to be.
7f this is true, that is, if the registers of peace, force and joy denote that 8e are not suffering,
then it is obvious that 8e suffer most of the time, sometimes very little, sometimes a lot. -o,
our $normal% daily e(istance8hen 8e are in a fairly neutral mood or 8hen 8e feel more or
less all right, 8ithout any apparent tensions or discomforts, still, since there is not the
registers of peace, force and joy, then sadly enough, 8e get to suspect that suffering is much
bigger than 8e 8e thought, that it is more omnipresent.
3fter defining clearly 8hat it 8ould be li:e not to suffer, you go through the process of
transformation, starting 8ith recalling the beliefs, seeing their illusionary nature and letting go
of the climate asociated 8ith this belief.
No8 that you see suffering and non sufffering in a clearer light you recall and feel the
physical register of the deep intention, then increasing your passion for not suffering and
finally increasing your faith that this is indeed possible. 3t that moment you ma:e sure that
you are in an adequate internal space.. 8ithout the climate of $me% or the root myth, letting
go of time and space, so that the future $you% , the non=suffering $you% comes to your
present. 3t that point, you simply let go and e(perience 8hat non=suffering is li:e.
erhaps you feel great serenity and a profound peace but there might still be some tensions
left, li:e in your stomach, indicating that you are not letting go completely. 7f you then
$dispossess% the positive feeling of serenity then you might be able to separate this good
sensation from yourself and in that 8ay you might feel that you are in your center, 8ith the
characteristic feeling of internal freedom, almost a sense of carelessness. 3nd if at that point
you recall the register of your direction then everything becomes looser and you might
suspect that 8hat ma:es suffering go a8ay is the a8areness and feeling of the path.
erhaps that comprehension does not illuminate everything inside but you might have this
8onderful and special feeling of joy. 3nd even feel very grateful.
7t 8ould not be surprising if you then feel very solid inside. But you might also realize that the
definitive gettingrid of suffering has to do 8ith moving the $7% and e(periencing the path... full
blast.
. 9inally 8hen 7 remembered the register of the direction everything became looser and it
8as clear that 8hat ma:es suffering go a8ay
