PERSONNEL:

I will be out of the office on Friday on
vacation.

PATROL:

On Tuesday officers responded Pine Valley
Ski Chalet where it was reported that there
was a pickup stuck on the walking trail.
Officers used a City owned four wheeler
vehicle used to groom and maintain the trail
to locate the truck which was about a mile
back on the walking trail. The pickup truck
had caused some deep ruts and damage to
the walking trail and needed a loader to free
it. A 35 year old Cloquet man was issued a
tab charge for operating a motor vehicle in a
City Park, and the case file has been sent to
the City Attorney's Office for review of
possible additional charges.

DETECTIVES:

On late Friday afternoon of last week our
detectives and K-9 Raja were called for
assistance from the Lake Superior Drug and
Violent Crime Task Force which we are
members of. The task force was asking for
assistance in a drug investigation. Our staff
was able to assist, the investigation remains
ongoing.

TRAINING:

Several of our staff attended an Emergency
Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) in
Hibbing this week. The training is
mandatory and required every five years.
The course focuses on the safe operation of
emergency vehicles.

MISCELLANEOUS:

This week the administrative office staff
continued to work on year 2013's proper
coding of Part I and Part II crimes. As
identified in our Law Enforcement
Study, which showed our department
having a lower clearance rate of Part I
and Part II crimes, it was learned that
the department was not properly
coding some Part I and Part II crimes.
We've now had the ability go back in
and update approximately 400 records
for 2013 which should have an effect
on our overall clearance rate. There is
still additional coding work for year
2013 to be done to gain a more
accurate picture. We were told by the
Bureau of Criminal Apprehension
(BCA) that we have the ability to go
back two years and update so when
2013 is complete, we will then focus
on 2012.

COMMUNITY SERVICE:

The department received a request
from a couple of individuals in our
community for information on the
possibility of creating a neighborhood
crime watch. The department will be
working with these individuals in the
near future, providing them
information on the possibility of
forming such a Community Watch
Program for their neighborhood.

If you have any questions about the
information provided, feel free to
contact me at the police department.

Respectfully Submitted,

Terry Hill
Interim Chief of Police
