(genitive case)
The genitive case is the case that marks a noun as being the possessor of another noun. In
Turkish both the possessor and the possessed carry markers to indicate possessive
relationship.
Personal Possessive
Pronouns Adjectives
ben → benim my
sen → senin your
o → onun his/her/its
biz → bizim our
siz → sizin your
onlar → onların their
1- The examples above indicate that in addition to the possessive adjectives (e.g. benim =
my) we have to add case markers to the word possessed, as in okulum, (i.e. –um indicates
that the possessor is the first singular person benim = my)
2- We don’t neccesarily have to use the possessive adjectives benim, senin, etc. because we
are already using case markers at the end of the word possessed.
