AFC SYSTEMS OVERVIEW




WHAT IS AFC SYSTEM?
AFC stands for Automatic Fare Collection system.
It is a system meant for automated computation fare.
It is based on the contact less technology. An AFC system consists of
semiautomatic ticket vending machine, entry exit gates, Station Computer and
Central Server.

There are various functions that the AFC system does. Some of function are,
Access control, Ticket reading and ticket writing, transaction collection and
reports, stock management and equipment supervision.

STATION COMPUTER:
It is responsible for collecting transactions and update the Audit registers form
the AFC station equipments for transmission to the central Computer.
It is also responsible for the AFC equipment supervision. It also maintains a
local database of the equipment activity to enable local reports to be
compiled.

AFC Gates:
They are the equipment which control the access of patrons from free are to
the paid area and vice versa according to business rules.
They help validate and authorize the passage of the passengers. They also
communicate with the Station control room.



AFC TOM:-
TOM stands for Ticket Office Machine. It is responsible for the delivery of
tickets for the passengers. It also helps in ticket refund and ticket cancellations.
It helps the station control room in ticket consultation, ticket data analysis and
solving of conflicts and errors.



TICKET READER:-


Enables patrons to know the remaining value of their contact less media. It
displays the decoded data. It also helps in checking the validity of the ticket.

AUTOMATIC GATES:-

There are various types of automatic gates, Entry gates, Exit Gates, Reversible
Gates and Wide Gates. The general size of the gates varies from 1100(H) x
300(W) x 1900(D). The automatic gates are capable of allowing 45 passengers
through it per minute. These gates are connected to the emergency switch
directly to cater to some emergency situation.

HOW DOES THE AFC WORK?
Passenger comes in the free are to purchase ticket for desired station.
Token issued with Zone, date, time, tom no. and station ID marked on it.



After the token is issued, the passenger shows his token at the Gate on the
free area. The automatic gate reads the token and writes Entry date, time,
equipment id and station id token.

Upon reaching the destination, the passenger shows his token to exit gate on
the paid area. Token is read and if found valid i.e for time and zone allows exit
by accepting the token and opening the gate flaps. If the states in the token
are found invalid, the automatic gate displays an error message.
