Horizon 2020 Funding energy efficiency in buildings
With a budget of nearly EUR 80 billion euro over seven years, Horizon 2020 is a totally new type of research programme for the EU that has been designed to deliver results that make a difference to people's lives. Built on three pillars Excellent Science, Industrial Leadership and Societal Challenges it will fund all types of activities, from frontier science to close-to-market innovation.
Building on the experience of the Intelligent Energy Europe programme and as part of a third generation of such actions, the Horizon 2020 Work Programme 2014-2015 -- Secure, clean and efficient energy includes a range of activities aiming at facilitating the market uptake of energy technologies and services, fostering social innovation, removing non-technological barriers, promoting standards and accelerating the cost effective implementation of the Union's energy policies. On Energy Information Day 5 December 2013, Paul Hodson (DG ENER) explained that there is a greater emphasis on energy efficiency, saying We see a key role for energy efficiency in 2020, 2030 and 2050 and we know it makes sense for the economy.
The objective of the Energy-efficient Buildings Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Initiative is to drive the creation of a high-tech building industry which turns energy efficiency into a sustainable business, fostering EU competitiveness in the construction sector on a global level. This call will complement the CALL ENERGY EFFICIENCY of the Energy societal challenge by helping to deliver, implement and optimise building and district concepts that have the technical, economic and societal potential to drastically reduce energy consumption and decrease CO2 emissions, both in relation to new buildings and to the renovation of existing buildings.
