BOOK FAIR!!
Reminder… the book fair will be set up in the Media Center during Conferences.

WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?
In math, we did some reflecting on our
first two units and prepared work samples for our
portfolio. We started Unit 3, which focuses on
addition and subtraction of whole numbers and
decimals. We began by discussing place value
and comparing decimals.
We worked hard on our summative
assessment for the IB planner, Environments.
The central idea of this planner was that all
living things depend on the conditions in their
environment. Students chose a living thing to
research and created a scrapbook or photo
journal to share their information. We shared our
projects with our first grade buddies and will
share them with parents at conferences.
In literacy, we finished our first book
club. Our class read Hatchet by Gary Paulsen.
Students continued to work on comprehension
and fluency. We also practiced summarizing and
shared our overall thoughts on the book. Our
next book club will be starting sometime after
Thanksgiving Break.
We had a wonderful time at Camp St.
Croix last week. I hope that students shared their
experiences with you. Look for pictures from our
camp experience on the website!
TOY DRIVE!!
Student council is sponsoring a holiday
toy drive starting November 30.
Students can bring in new, unused items
for kids ages 3 months to 18 years old.
We are taking suggestions for our new school
name during the month of November. Forms are
school website and fifth grade team website.
