CVMk2
APPLICATION NOTE
Three-phase power and power quality analyzer
Power and Precision within
your reach
Being able to measure and control the energy consumption
and quality is becoming more and more necessary and
important in any system.
The CVMk2 enables you to carry out the energy
management and monitoring of the electrical parameters,
sub-metering, and cost allocation.
The CVMk2 is a system and quality of supply analyser that
measures any of the systems electrical parameters that
you may require.
Applications
Metering
La alta tecnologa integrada en el CVMk2, le proporciona
The high technology integrated in the CVMk2 offers
excellent accuracy. With the 0.2 and 0.5 class models,
you can measure power, energy, demand, etc. with full
guarantees under the most demanding conditions.
Supply Quality Analysis
The voltage and intensity decomposition up to 50 harmonics,
ficker measurement or voltage disturbances (sags, swells,
peaks), are some of the quality parameters analysed
by the CVMk2, helping you to reduce energy costs and
improve energy effciency in your system.
Cost Allocation and Billing
The CVMk2 enables you to calculate the energy consumed
in the different areas/departments of your system. In
addition, the CVMk2 has total, monthly and annual energy
meters to make your work easier.
You can complement the CVMk2 with the automatic option
given in the PowerStudio software.
The CVMk2 can centralise via digital pulses other energy
meters or other equipment such as water or gas meters, or
units produced
Control of the Demand and the Power
Factor
Avoid penalisations due to excess demand or recharging
when the power factor far from 1. The CVMk2 measures
the demand (kVA, kW, I) and its maximum values, as well
as the Power Factor or the cos j. A relay alarm can be
assigned to perform a more exhaustive control.
Transformer Study
Determine whether your transformer is working effciently,
with the CVMk2 you will be able to observe the harmonics
and calculate the k factor.
Integration of Process Signals
With the different expansion cards available on the
CVMk2, you will be able to measure, control and monitor
the different process signals that may be produced in a
system.
Calculate all your consumptions: energy, water, gas
meters
Preventive Maintenance
Establish alarms for the different parameters measured to
warn you before any incident can occur.

perform and measure process signals
Display
The display enables you to view the data and set the
equipment:
Large LCD with backlighting
Adjustable contrast
A display can show measurements of up to 32 different
measuring devices. The display automatically detects
any measuring module inserted in the RS-485 network
Characteristics
Measurements
Energy: total, monthly and annual for both energy
consumed and generated
Demand: Fixed, sliding and thermal window
Harmonics: individual and total harmonic distortion
(THD in U and I).

Metering
The CVMk2 enables energy metering in 4 quadrants for
redundant meter applications, and allows you to substitute
in just one device, equipment such as taximeters, network
analysers

Instants
The CVMk2 measures and calculates a wide range of
values, such as:
Voltage and intensity
kW, kvar and kVA
Power Factor, cos phi
Frequency
Imbalance between voltage and intensity
and many more
Billing
The CVMk2 incorporates all the characteristics required to
implement a billing system, among others:
1 year programmable calendar
Up to 12 different time profles
Working days, public holidays etc
Discrimination by rates of the demand and energy
accumulators
Harmonics
Harmonics are disturbances that introduce losses in
transformers and other devices. It is essential to be able to
assess them precisely, with the CVMk2 you will be able:
To evaluate the THD in voltage and current
To individually evaluate each harmonic up to 50
th
, also in
voltage and intensity
To calculate the transformers Factor-K according to
ANSI C57110
Universal Metering
Con las tarjetas de expansin de CVMk2, puede medir
With the CVMk2s expansion cards you can measure other
metering devices and process signals. Pulses from gas,
water, steam meters, for example.
Register
A non-volatile memory ensures the integrity of all the
data saved. The CVMk2 registers events, energy,
measurements
Load Curve
Together with an expansion card with SD memory, the
CVMk2 incorporates the register option.
The capacity of the SD cards ensures a registering
period of more than 10 years.
You can confgure the registering period (standard 10
minutes).
You can confgure the values registered from a list of
more than 500 parameters
Neutral Current
The CVMk2 has 4 current inputs which enables it to
measure the neutral current as well. In 4-wire systems, it
also allows the possibility of calculating the neutral current
when there is no transformer present.
Max/Min Register
As the CVMk2 detects maximums and minimums, it will
register them in its internal memory; together with the
date and time they are produced. It registers the following,
among others:
Min/max voltage and current
Min/max kW, kvar, and kVA
Min/max power factor cos phi
Min/max frequency
Min/max imbalance in voltage, Factor-K

Min/Max Registering
The min/max values from each period are registered
in the fle.

Disturbances
The equipment detects and stores any disturbances from
a minimum of 10 ms.
Alarms
Up to 10 alarms can be defned in the equipment, and, in
turn, these can be associated to any output using logical
functions (OR / AND).
PowerStudio SCADA
The PowerStudio SCADA software has a driver integrated
to communicate with the CVMk2.
The PowerStudio registers and displays in real-time and
offers control and confguration options.
