Welcome friends again to our website. In this article I will describe how to calculate matrix and determinate
easily by using your scientific calculator. I will describe you the process used in CASIO fx-991ES calculator.
MATRIX CALCULATION
STEP-1: Press ON to switch ON your calculator.
STEP-2: Press MODE and choose MATRIX. That means you have to press 6 to select MATRIX mode.
STEP-3: Remember you can calculate up to three matrixes. You can calculate above this by using the result of
three matrixes and carry out other mathematical operation by entering new data to the existing matrixes.
STEP-4: After that you have to insert the elements of the matrixes. So press 1 to enter the elements of matrix A.
STEP-5: Then choose how many row and column matrix you have. Suppose you want to calculate for a (3 X 3)
matrix then press 1 or any other number according to your need.
STEP-6: Input your data. To input your data type the value of the first row and first column i.e. A

and press = to
enter. Note that in your calculator your data will be inserted in row wise. Similarly enter all the elements of your
first matrix.
STEP-7: To input second matrix i.e. matrix B press SHIFT then press 4. After that choose Dat a from the list and
finally press 2 to insert the second matrix. No need to press 1 as we already inserted its value. If you choose or
press 1 it will show you the value you have inserted earlier. You can also edit or change your value in this
process.
STEP-8: Then follow the STEP-5 and STEP-6 to input the value of next matrix. Similarly you can input the third
matrix.
STEP-9: Then after press ON.
STEP-10: Suppose you want to multiply matrix A and matrix B, for that you have to press SHIFT and press 3 for
matrix A then use the multiplication symbol. Again press SHIFT and 4 for matrix B. Finally press = symbol. The
result is on your screen. Similarly you can do for 3 matrix addition, substation, multiplication and division.
STEP-11: Although it is over I want to let you know some advance feature of your calculator. If you have more
than 3 matrixes then after STEP-10 press SHIFT then 4 and choose 6 where you can find the result of your last
calculation. Suppose you want to add the result obtained in STEP-10 with another matrix then press SHIFT then
4 and choose 2. Edit or replace the previous value of your matrix with the new one.
STEP-12: To add the result obtained in STEP-10 to the updated matrix press ON then press SHIFT then 4, from
the list choose 6 and press addition operator and follow STEP-10.
DETERMINANTS CALCULATION:
STEP-1: Input your data. To input your data follow STEP-1 to Step-9 of MATRIX CALCULATION.
STEP-2: To find out determinant press SHIFT then 4 and choose 7 for determinant operation. Again hit SHIFT
and 4. Choose the matrix whose determinant you need. Suppose you want determinant of matrix A, then press
3. Finally press = symbol to get the result.
