Factor in any classes that continue next semester (ex. MUS 605B, MUS 313N) and plan
for those (the 4 year plan available at the degree guideline link above is a good place to
start!)

Build in time for ensembles, chamber rehearsals, and other activities you are involved
in, such as sleep. Or eating.

Ask yourself how busy you want to be. Not all 12 hour schedules are created equal.
Make sure that you arent overloading yourself with academic or writing courses. A
balanced schedule is best!!

We are very lucky to have faculty who are willing be to available for your questions and
concerns! Tell them how your semester is going, what classes you are thinking about
taking, ask if they see holes in your curriculum, what opportunities they want you to be
on the look for, etc. Soak in any advice they are willing to give.

Get their signature on the advising sheet! Your advising bar will not be lifted until I see
this signature.

By the time you see me, I expect you to have already planned your courses, know the
unique numbers, etc.

During mandatory advising, you will have to see me so that I can lift your advising bar.
If you dont see me before advising is over, I will not lift your bar, which means you
will not be able to register until January. At this point, your classes will likely be full,
which will be a bummer. So just come see me, its much easier that way!

there.
