Kathryn came in and helped us paint lots of different colourful patterns on the totem poles. Lots of us enjoyed doing hand printing! They have never looked so beautiful!
In Reception Class, one of our parents Ulrike came in to give us all our first experience of tap-dancing. It was wonderful. We even added these little metal pieces to attach to our shoes to add sound when we tapped out the different steps. Everyone was fascinated by the lovely sound. Our favourite step was exploding like popcorn!! Ulrike is going to come back after half term to give us another lesson; we can't wait to learn more!
Year 1 went to the Tate Modern yesterday and had a fantastic time focusing on the work of Piet Mondrian and Paul Nash among others. The children liked Nashs Landscape from a Dream and the whole experience of the gallery. Fortunately, they just missed the terrible storm because, as it broke, they were heading back to school on the bus. Phew!
Year 2/3 had a fantastic day on the canal boats yesterday. We got to open the locks, steer the boats and we even saw some pirates. We visited the Canal Boat Museum and found out about the ice boats that used to sail from Norway so that Londoners could have ice and ice creams. On our way back we had to hide inside the boats from the storm outside. Luckily we didn't sink and made it back to school safe but soggy. It was a great trip and we learnt lots about canal boat life and the history of the canal.
This week the focus was to put away things once theyve been used and be helpful to others when keeping the school tidy and these children really showed initiative and real care for the schools equipment this week. Well done to you all. Next week is half-term so the following weeks focus, upon returning from the break, will be to pace themselves when going about activities in school. Wed like the children not to rush when working so as to produce better quality, thoughtful pieces of work. The Musician of the Week this week goes to Louis in Year 2. Paul was very impressed with his ability to keep to a steady beat during this week's music lesson. He worked great as part of a group, stopping and starting together on time and following signals. He always listens well, his musical vocabulary is excellent and he takes part with enthusiasm! Well done Louis, keep it up!
The Artists of the Week went to Oscar in Year 2 for his miniature garden design which caught our eye. It was thoughtfully put together and his use of natural and man-made materials was well balanced. Great work Oscar
and to Claude in Nursery Class. The hot-air balloon you created is beautiful. You carefully planned ahead how you wanted it to look and worked so hard on creating this masterpiece. Well done to you!

Half-Term Next Week
After a busy first half term where we transformed our playground into an amazing space for the children to play and learn, were ready for the final lap. We had our ISI inspection this week and were looking forward to sharing the results of their findings in the near future and we are all pleased the weather is much improved.
Next term, Sheryl will be starting her maternity leave from late June and Paul will be rejoining us for the remainder of the academic year in Year 1. Sheryls parents consultations will be brought forward so Year 1 parents will have the opportunity to meet with her formally before she leaves and read their childrens reports.
Im delighted to say that we have appointed a Year 1 teacher for the next academic year. She is called Alice Penman and comes with experience, fluent Italian, a lovely way with the children, and a passion for education and raising standards. Alice will also be teaching Italian to the Year 3 children once per week as they move away from French lessons.
We are yet to appoint a Year 3 teacher. There are some serious candidates waiting in the wings, and now the inspection preparation and process has passed, we can concentrate all our focus on appointing that perfect teacher for our children. After half term I shall give you a progress update, but again, the field of candidates is looking very promising and you know our track-record for appointing great teaching staff!
Do remember that the school is only closed next week on Monday. From Tuesday to Friday, Play Scheme and Nursery Class remain open.
Whatever you are doing next week, have a lovely time and a well-earned rest. There are lots to look forward to in the final half term, so please keep an eye on the diary below and make sure you dont miss a thing.
