Call for Applications
for the International DAAD Alumni-Seminar

Reflecting Biodiversity
Holistic approaches and regional adaptation
12 15 September 2014, Bonn

The University of Bonn hereby announces the International DAAD Alumni-Seminar
Reflecting Biodiversity Holistic approaches and regional adaptation, which
will convene 12

15 September 2014 in Bonn. The seminar is scheduled in the
run-up to the international BION conference Biodiversity Today for Tomorrow
(17 19

September 2014).
Concept & Programme
Based on biocentric approaches in social sciences, philosophy and cultural
studies, this seminar focuses on biodiversity as a transdisciplinary field, in which
ecological, political, cultural and economic aspects and challenges are profoundly
interlinked. Especially holistic views and approaches will be of our interest and
shall be discussed intensively, as they mark basic shifts of perspectives and
introduce practical steps to preserve biodiversity at the same time.

This Alumni-Seminar will provide you with the unique opportunity to exchange and
develop ideas with our experts. With several excursions and guest speakers you
will get in touch with international organizations in the field of biodiversity. You
will not only gain insights into their structures and agendas but also discuss
conceptualizations of international programmes and conventions, political/
economic implementations as well as mapping and preservation strategies with
leaders of the involved organizations, like Intergovernmental Science-Policy
Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services IPBES, "Environmental Law
Centre of the International Union for Conservation of Nature - IUCN (ECL), the
Global Crop Diversity Trust, the NEES-Institute for Biodiversity of Plants, the
Leibniz-Institute for Animal Biodiversity or the Gesellschaft fr Internationale
Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

The programme is organized and hosted by the Department Strategic
Partnerships of the Forum Internationale Wissenschaft (FIW) at Bonn University.
