The independent scaffold erected to the girth of the block is a basic scaffold as defined by Tg20:08 4.4.2. It has a
load class 3 with each lift boarded ( 2.0kn/m2 on one lift and 1 .00kn/m2 on a second lift).
Wind load S factor = 22 x 1.00 x (1+10/1000)=22.22 < 40 ( 4.4.2-7).

One element of the scaffold to rear adjacent the balconies is a double width independent at the base lift which
needs a further design check, and a loading bay adjacent the scaffold with a 10kn/m2 loading needs a design check.

Double width to the rear.

Load = 2.00kn/m2. Inner bay at 4bds wide and outer bay up to 7 bds wide.

Load to transoms from inner bay, 2.00kn+0.25kn x 1.2= 2.7kn/m.
2.7kn x0.9= 2.43kn. Bm= 2.43 x0.9/8=0.27kn.m < 1.12kn.m therefore acceptable.
End reaction 2.43/2=1.22 to the centre ledger.

Load to transoms from outer bay, 2.00kn+0.25kn x 1.2=2.7kn/m
2.7kn x 1.58=4.3kn. Bm 4.3 x1.58/8=0.85kn.m therefore acceptable.
End reaction to centre ledger= 4.3kn/2=2.15kn.

Max load to centre ledger from CPL of each transom = 1.22+2.15=3.37kn.

Bm to ledger 3.37x2/4=1.68kn.m > 1.12kn, therefore use a twin ledger as the centre ledger on the base lift.
1.68kn.m < 2 x 1.12kn.m, therefore acceptable.

The loading bay is to be 2 (5 board) bays wide complete with each lift boarded and up to 6m long. Loading to be
one lift at any time at 10kn/m2.

Load to boards with transoms at 600mm.. 10+0.25kn x 0.6=6.15kn/m.
Bm 6.15 x 0.6 x0.6/8=0.28kn.m <0.71kn.m therefore acceptable.

Load to transoms.
10.25kn x 0.6 x 1.13m=6.95kn.
Bm 6.95 x 1.13/8=0.98kn.m <1.12kn.m therefore acceptable.

End reaction to transoms 6.95kn/2=3.48kn.

Load to ledgers at max 1.2centres.
Centre ledger Bm 6.95kn x 1.2/4=2.09kn > 1.12kn.m, therefore reduce centre standard spacings to 0.6m
Bm 6.95 x 0.6/4=1.04< 1.12kn.m therefore acceptable.

Load to ledgers ( outside) worst case CPL
Bm 3.34kn x 1.2/4=1.00< 1.12kn.m therefore acceptable.

Check load to standards.
Worst case centre standard.
Load 10.25kn +0.25= 10.50 x 1.2 x 0.6=7.56kn. ( use check fittings on centre ledgers 2 x 6.1kn >7.56kn)
Pc at 2.0m = 28.2>7.56 therefore acceptable.

Summary.

Outside bay size 1.2m, inner standards at 0.6m
Lift heights 2m to match independent scaffold.
Transoms at 600mm centres.
Only 1 lift to be fully load at a time.
Brace externally over 3 sides (allowing for chute and hoist.), wing brace 2

and 4
th
lift to the independent,
internally ledger brace every other standard to on bay only.
