Philosophy statement

Since education is the most significant factor that leads to the advancement of
societies, more efforts are spent to provide opportunities for a good education for all
people especially children. Education aims to raise people's awareness and develop
abilities that should be used to face conflicts in life. Education also results in changing
people's thoughts as they gain knowledge; through my studies as an early childhood
student, I become aware of children's behaviors that are normal at their age, not as I
thought before that they are being noisy. Besides, I understood why and when they
behave in a certain way. In other words understanding the way children behave and
learn makes it easier to deal with them. Indeed, I chose this major because I was
curious and also the idea of being a kindergarten teacher was quite in my mind since a
while.
I believe that children learn better by doing. Vygotsky in his sociocultural
theory stressed that children are active learners and hands-on experiences are better to
be used for learning. I think children should not be restricted in the learning
environment. There should be opportunities provided for children to explore,
experience, and construct knowledge by themselves. Furthermore, encouraging
children to talk and discuss what they see and do with other peers and adults can lead
to better learning and children will feel more enthusiastic.
The whole child should be considered by the teacher, so diverse activities and
experiences in all domains of the child development should be available. Also, I
strongly believe that an early childhood teacher should consider each child as an
individual learner; each one is constructing the knowledge based on his/her abilities.
Indeed, providing children with a secure and developmentally appropriate
environment is the teachers' role. In addition, having reciprocal feelings of respect
between children and the teacher makes it easier for the teacher guide and facilitate
children's learning.
As children are affected by the society around them, I believe that it is
important to involve parents and other institutions in children's learning process.
Parents should be welcomed at school and teachers should discuss with them and
listen to their suggestions regarding their children. Moreover, teachers can cooperate
with parents and other community members to participate in school activities to
provide different experiences for children. I think. In fact, we all learn by interacting.
