In recent months reports of

prevalent on the two lanes feeding
into the main traffic arteries of
Kuta.
DenPost reports the vice
chairman of the Local Community
Association (LPM) in Kuta,
Nyoman Hadi Wira Atmaja,

confirmed that plans are

being drawn up to enhance
community security.
Criminals are stalking their
targets to the entrances of their
hotels. There are muggings taking
place almost every day, said Hadi.
The community leader
blamed the increase in muggings
on the refusal of taxis in Legian to

that if taxis would charge more
reasonable fares, visitors would
use this form of transportation,
thereby reducing the criminal
incidents.
DenPost says that both
children and adults are
perpetrating criminal acts in the
area. Children involved in thefts

other accessories in the process of
pick pocketing or snatching

unsuspecting tourists.
Hadi told the press that he
hoped the police would provide
optimal security to visitors and
help reduce rates of criminality.
But this problem (criminality) will
also get our (the community's)
attention. In addition, we hope the
police will also give their attention,
he added.

BALI THE RIGHT WAY

G'day again folks and welcome to another week in paradise. The
island is certainly hotting up with most of the restaurants and bars
getting increasingly busier in readiness for the dreaded school
holidays crowd we love so much!! Again, it's great to see lots of
people spending money here when the masses arrive, but its great
when they go home and the island slows down for a while. The
traffic is like a living nightmare, the telephone systems seem to go
aliasj@kutaweekly.com
into meltdown along with the basic supply chains on everyday
items. I can't see things changing anytime soon with the number of people arriving each year going up and
up and up.
Moving along I see the Eagles dropped the ball and took a loss at the hands of the mighty Pies on Saturday
just gone. I was wrapped to see the comeback happened over the last quarter when the Pies usually get the
wobbles. A great win at the very least for the lads in black and white and an easy one this week to boot
against the Saints. Karn the pies.
Last week I did forget to wish all my Balinese friends a very happy Galungan and Kuningun which seems
to have slipped around rather quickly, so I will take the opportunity now to say I hope you all have a great
time. It is a very special time of the year when the spirit of ancestors past come to visit the earth and the
Balinese usually erect a huge bamboo pole called a penjor at the front of the house which has a heap of
offerings on it. The celebrations go from 3 days before the time until 11 days after so I feel I have gotten in
before the ceremonies finish.
I did her an expat complain about all the public holidays that the locals have and they wished that there
wasn't so many and went on to say that back home after a while, all I heard was bla bla bla and I silently,
which is something different for me, thought what a wanker. Why are you even on the island if you don't
like the way the Balinese have been doing things for thousands of years. My suggestion is that you get
back on that airplane and go back home where you can live in peace and harmony and enjoy your life
without disturbing the expats that enjoy the place. There is a reason the islands visitors keeps going up
each year and it isn't because people complain at the amount of public holidays there are. Get your head in
the right zone and Bali is great. Whinge and complain at everything you don't understand and you best go
home. It's that simple.

Bali at the Breaking Point

Tourism Experts Warn that
Island's Carrying Capacity is
Being Exceeded
The Jakarta Post warns that
Bali will soon reach a saturation point
in terms of its carrying capacity,
natural resources and physicals
space.
A lecturer from Bali's Udayana
University Tourism School, Nyoman
Sukma Arida, said: There have been
crucial changes in Balinese culture
and the lives of its people due to the
flood of tourists and tourism
development.
Bali's population is now
estimated at 4 million, a number that
does no include a large floating
expatriate population and the daily
influx of tourist visitors, both foreign
and domestic, approaching 10 million
in the course of a year.
Arida continued warning that
massive exploitation of water and
food resources is taking place.

Tourist visitors are he

massive consumers of fresh water,
using 1,500 liters per day while the
Balinese only need 120 liters per
day," he said.
The Bali Hotels Association
says its member consume 50,000
cubic meter of water each day.
The tourism academic also
warns that Bali's agricultural lands
are vanishing as they are converted
residential and tourism
developments.
According to Arida, efforts by

the province to earn special

autonomous region status for the
Island have been unsuccessful.
Those supporting the special
status for Bali argued that it would
provide more central government
funding needed to curb
uncontrolled development and
protect the Island's natural state.
Also unsuccessful have
been efforts by Bali's governor to
introduce a moratorium on new
hotel projects in the Island's south,
an efforts opposed by the regent of
Badung who insists new hotels
provide for a wider tax base
despite a ponderous over-supply
of rooms.
In a further effort to divert
tourist loads away from Bali, a Bali
and Beyond tourism concept is
being championed to make Bali a
transit gateway to other parts of
Indonesia.

Bali Police Chief Vows

a Crackdown on
Growing Crime
Problem in Bali
The Jakarta Post
reports that the Bali Police
Chief, General Albertus
Julius Benny Mokalu, has
responded to complaints
over mounting crime in Bali
by pledging to heightened
security, more patrols and
the monitoring of recidivists
living on Bali.
Said General Mokalu: We
have optimized all efforts to
prevent crimes. We conduct
routine operations; we have
priority targets, by for example
monitoring recidivists. Based on
criminology, perpetrators tend to
repeat crimes.
In recent days, expatriates in
Bali have organized themselves

demanding a stronger police

response to violent crime, largely
perpetrated against women.
Various Facebook pages
campaigning for a safer Bali have
been launched together with
peace and order vigils to
demanding greater safety in the
community.
In less than a single week
Bali has been rocked by the death

of an 18-year-old
South Korean Woman in
Denpasar who died
during a purse snatching
and the death of a U.K.
Resident in her rented
villa in Ubud.
The Bali Chief of
Police insists his officers
are working hard to solve
crime but said
community support is
needed to make Bali a
safer place to live.
Adding that crime can never
be completely eradicated, General
Benny said: In any area or
province, crime can never reach
zero. It is impossible. Because of
population growth, economic
growth, social circumstances and
many other things, of course,
crimes will occur.

Tourist Can't Teach

Education Ministry
Tightens Control and
Surveillance of Foreign
Teachers
Following a recent scandal
involving sexual attacks on
children at the Jakarta
International School, the Director
General of Early Non-formal and
Formal Education from the
Ministry of Education and
Culture, Lidya Freyani Hawadi,
warns that foreign tourists cannot
work as teachers in Indonesia.
Foreign tourists can only stay
for three months, they can't become
teachers or educators at any school
or any course, said Lidya quoted by
Republika.co.id in a press
conference in Jakarta on Friday,
May 23, 2014.
The Director General's
comments could have far reaching
effect on many language courses
and volunteer teacher programs
operated by foundations in Bali.

14

According to Lydia, people

teaching in Indonesia must be
registered with the Ministry of
Manpower and Transmigration
(Kemenakertrans) and the Ministry
of Education and Culture
(Kemdikbud). Rules set out by
Kemenakertrans also stipulate that
teachers in Indonesia must have a
command of the Indonesian
language. Moreover, the subjects
taught by foreigners must match
their educational backgrounds.
For example, someone who

has graduated as a
kindergarten teacher cannot
teach grade school, she
continued.
These stipulations are in
conformance with Regulations
of the Ministry of Education
Number 31 of 2014 on
Cooperation between
Operators of Foreign
Educational Institutions and the
Indonesian Counterparts.
Lydia went on to explain
that educators coming from
overseas must have, among others,
certificates of good health and prove
that they are not involved in
missionary work.
For foreign teachers in
international schools the maximum
percentage among all teachers is
70% and for those working in nonteaching position the maximum
amount of foreigners to be
employed is 20%, she added.

James Tedesco has signed a three-year deal with the

Canberra Raiders
JAMES Tedesco has
this morning agreed to
a three-year deal with
the Canberra Raiders
worth nearly $2 million.
T h e s t a r Ti g e r s
fullback broke the news to
his teammates at training
this morning, after a lastditch meeting between his
agent Sam Ayoub and
Tigers CEO Grant Mayer
failed to keep him at
Concord.
It is believed the Tigers' offer
was well short of the $1.9 million deal
that Canberra tabled, leaving Tedesco
with little choice but to move to the
ACT next year.
He becomes the first major
signing for new Raiders coach Ricky
Stuart, who is also sweating on an
answer from Storm forward and Kiwi
International Kevin Proctor today.
It wasn't easy to tell the guys,
they are a great group of players, and
close friends of mine, Tedesco said.
This wasn't an easy decision
for me to make and I'd like to thank
Wests Tigers for their support during
the process.
I'm fully committed to Wests
Tigers for the remainder of the 2014
season and can't wait to get back onto
the field and join my team mates.
We've had some good wins to start
the year and are confident that we'll be

in the mix come finals time.

In a statement released by the
Tigers CEO Grant Mayer expressed
his disappointment that Tedesco was
leaving.
James has grown up in the
Wests Tigers system and we've made
it absolutely clear that developing
local juniors is a priority for this club,
said Mayer.
In the last 12 months we've
retained local juniors Luke Brooks,
Aaron Woods, Tim Simona, David
Nofoaluma, Curtis Sironen, Mitchell
Moses and Sauaso Sue, and are
disappointed to confirm that James
will leave the club at the end of the
2014 season.
The discussions with James'
management were complex. When
another club identifies one of our
players as their marquee signing we
simply cannot compete with that, he
said.

FIRST IN
INDONESIA

We wish James well in

his new venture and thank him
for his dedication and
commitment to Wests Tigers
over the past eight years.
James has made it
clear that his priority for the
remainder of the year is to
achieve success with Wests
Tigers and we look forward to
seeing him back on the park as
soon as he's recovered from
his current injury, said Mayer.
We have no doubt that
that in our system there are young
players who will reach the levels of the
likes of Farah, Woods, Brooks and
Sironen and look forward to bringing
them into the NRL in the future.
Canberra Raiders CEO Don
Furner said the signing of Tedesco
was a marquee one for the club and
said the Raiders had been following
his progress though his junior years
and were thrilled to have him sign with
the Raiders.
James is an outstanding
young talent who we see as a big
signing for the Raiders and we look
forward to him joining the club at the
beginning of the 2015 season, Furner
said. The Raiders have followed
James' progress from his days at St
Gregory's College Campbelltown and
we know being from Camden, James
will fit into the lifestyle and culture here
in Canberra.

Queensland's eight-year

they have failed to do that.

be entrenched at the pointy end of

QLD selectors perhaps aren't

But the bottom line is
this. NSW selectors have

led the NRL ladder before Origin in
2010, and NSW also picked four
Dogs that year. They lost Origin 30.
The Blues will want to hope
that was a statistical blip. They'll
also do well to forget that their
skipper Paul Gallen plays for the
Sharks, who are currently running
last.
*Regarding 2010 when the
Melbourne Storm was stripped of
all premierships points for Salary
Cap breaches, we have treated
their ladder position as third, not
last, to reflect their 7-3 win loss
ratio at Origin time.

Sam Tomkins fined by Warriors and the police for

urinating in public
Warriors star Sam
Tomkins has been
fined by police and
his NRL club after
being caught
urinating in public on
the Gold Coast.
The England
fullback was issued with
an on-the-spot $100
ticket by police over the
incident in Broadbeach
early on Sunday following his
side's 24-16 win over Gold Coast
the previous night.
The Warriors said they were
made aware of the incident on
Monday and slapped Tomkins with
an additional $NZ2000 ($A1862)
fine.
I'm disappointed in myself,
said 25-year-old Tomkins in a club

statement.
I thought I was in a
secluded spot but realise I still
made a poor decision.
Warriors general manager
Dean Bell said the club accepted
Tomkins' admission that he made
an error in judgement.
He knows this kind of
behaviour is unacceptable, Bell

said. Tomkins left

the English Super League
to join the Warriors this
season and, despite a
slow start, has started to
show the sort of form that
made him a superstar in
his home country.
He isn't the first
Warrior to be disciplined
for urinating in public.
Former player
Russell Packer was fined
$15,000 for his infamous on-field
leak at Suncorp Stadium in June
last year.
Earlier this month the club
fined bullocking centre Konrad
Hurrell $5000 after a sex video
featuring him was leaked onto the
internet.

Rafael Nadal has the ultimate celebrity doppelganger in

Spanish bus driver Jose Manuel Ramiro
ONE of these men is the
king of clay. The other
is the king of celebrity
doppelgangers.
On the left is tennis
superstar Rafael Nadal, a 13time grand slam champion and
universally recognised freak of
nature. You may be familiar
with him. He's currently
defending his title at the
French Open.
On the right is Jose Manuel
Ramiro, a humble bus driver from
Madrid, of whom you have most
definitely never heard. He happens to
be sporting exactly the same face and
haircut as Nadal. Scrap the ties and

26

they're impossible to tell apart.

The pair met during a
ceremony earlier this month, in which
Nadal was named Madrid's adopted
son.
According to USA Today ,
Ramiro told reporters people confuse

him with the tennis star all

the time. You can see why. He
even worked as a body double for
Nadal in a car commercial.
This isn't the first time
Nadal has shared the limelight
with a replica of his own face. He
once shot an ad for PokerStars
alongside another, slightly less
perfect doppelganger.
And he's not the only
bigshot with a convincing
doppelganger - some of the world's
most famous faces actually match up
with each other.
Here's a modest selection of
examples, although in our opinion,
none of them beat Nadal and Ramiro.

Jumper, singlet, T-shirt, Cap, Sarong, Towel, Pillow case, Flag, Stubby holder,
Coaster, Bag, Bedcover, Duvet cover, Bar mat, and more...

Gold Coast star David Swallow proud to be apart of

Suns rise in the ranks
AS David Swallow sat opposite
Kade Kolodjashnij at a Gold
Coast Suns media conference
today he couldn't but think how
easy the young blokes have it
these days.
Kolodjashnij had just
admitted as much when, fronting the
press after earning the Rising Star
nomination, he said he'd been
surprised at the ease in which he'd
settled into AFL football.
What a difference four years
makes.
At 22-years-of-age, Swallow
is hardly an old fella, but he carries
the battle scars of a man who has
seen the worst of life as a footballer.
And there is no doubt it has
fuelled a burning desire to
experience the best.
Swallow the club's first pick in
the 2010 draft had to wait until
Round 14 of his debut season to
earn his nomination. That too was

against the Bulldogs and

despite a dominant game in the
midfield and also pushing forward to
kick two goals, the Doggies were too
good.
It took him two full seasons to
collect the same amount of wins that
Kolodjashnij has managed in two
months.
Swallow, like team mates
Tom Lynch and Dion Prestia have
spoken of their desperation to
create a foot on throat mentality at
the club to exact revenge on the rest
of the competition who took such joy
in beating up on the competition's
runts in the early years.
In comparison, Kolodjashnij
is scar free. He has played in just
two losses in his AFL career, to last
year's grand finalists Hawthorn and
Fremantle, and is a regular fixture in
a side that sits in third place on the
ladder and is the most exciting story
in football.

tracked maturity of his team

mates is a major part of the reason
why his life as an AFL footballer is so
good.
When they first started they
were getting flogged every game,
they definitely went through some
hard yards,'' he said.
All that work is paying off
now, it doesn't surprise me at all how
far they have come.''
You get the sense that
Swallow and a few of his mates,
carry their scars with pride. They are
proud that their blood and sweat has
built the club that is on the verge of
something special and have no
trouble enjoying the quick success
the likes of Kolodjashnij are
achieving.
Kade has had a terrific start
to his career, he has been really
consistent for us, he has come in a
played his role and to get the
nomination is testament to the start

Drunk caused $500k damage flooding hotel

Have you heard the one
about the drunken
Irishman who urinated in
a hotel hallway and
flooded the building
causing $500,000 worth
of damage?
A court in Melbourne has.
Padraig Gaffney, 29,
traveled from Queensland to
Melbourne in April last year
ahead of plans to celebrate his
28th birthday and ask his then
girlfriend to marry him.
Prosecutor Kristie
Churchill told the Victorian
County Court Gaffney had been
staying with his girlfriend at the
Fraser Place Hotel when they
returned about 10pm after a
night of heavy drinking.
What happened next,
Gaffney said, was a series of
events which have effectively
'ruined' the 29-year-old's life.
Dazed and confused he
woke after midnight and walked
into the hallway on the ninth floor
and urinated.
He then took the emergency
exit stairs to the eighth floor,
triggering a fire hydrant, flooding
rooms on all seven floors beneath.
The court heard how guests
had to be evacuated and relocated
to neighbouring hotels.

Gaffney pleaded guilty to

one charge of criminal damage
and fined $10,000 for his drunken
acts.
'This entire thing has ruined
my life completely,' Gaffney said.
'I've spent 10 years in
Australia trying to better myself
and in the space of one night
everything can be taken away
from you.' 'People who go out for

the night and drink too

much can ruin themselves
completely.
He said he had no
memory of the event when
asked by Chief Judge Michael
Rozenes why he did it despite
telling police he was 'so, so sorry
for what he'd done.
In fining Gaffney, Judge
Rozenes took into account his
level of intoxication.
He said despite the severe
consequences of his actions, he
had no malicious intent to cause
damage and said it was a stupid
act that any reasonable sober
person would not commit.
Born into a strict Catholic
family in County Roscommon,
Ireland, Gaffney is the youngest
of six children.
He completed a carpentry
apprenticeship and moved to
Queensland where he works for
the construction company
McNab.
His defence lawyer Sam
Norton said the Irishman had since
broken up with his girlfriend who
he had planned to ask to marry him
during the "ill-fated trip" to
Melbourne.
He had been living a normal,
ordinary life before this
extraordinary turn of events, Mr
Norton said.

VIRGINAL CONCEPTION BAFFLES SCIENTISTS

Jerusalem| The
pregancy of 17-year
old Batya Abuhatzeira,
has attracted a lot of
attention and interest
over the last weeks, as
a growing number of
scientists and doctors
have proved unable to
find an explanation to
her astounding case.
The jewish teenager
found herself pregnant
while on solitary
confinement, during a three week
activity of communion and prayer
with her school, and is still clinically
a virgin.
This case's mystery begins
with the circumstances of the
conception, which presumably
took place in a monastery near Beit
Shemesh, which she was visiting
with her religious private school.
Miss Abuhatzeira was participating
in a three week activity of prayer and
monastic silence with 22 other girls
from her class, in a religious
institution forbidden to males. The
young girl claims she had some
mysterious dreams, resembling a
vision, in which a angel-like figure
told her she would have a child.
The doctor who initially
followed the progression of the girl's
pregnancy, demanded help from

specialists after he noticed

the girl was still a virgin, and that
something about her kid seemed to
disturb the ultrasound equipment
and rendered clear imaging
impossible. More than a dozen
experts and specialists have tried to
address the problem and find a
solution, but it seems a mysterious
energy field somehow blocks the
scan.
The increased attention on
Batya's case has brought a lot of
speculation from the media and the
public, bringing forward dozens of
wild and eccentric theories. Many
religious organizations, including
the Roman Catholic Church, have
manifested their interest towards
her child, due to the many
similarities between this story and
that of the Christ. Various alternative
media have on the other hand,

BioMicrobe

going from a secret

military genetic experiment
directed by the Israeli
Army, to an alien artificial
insemination project.
Parthenogenesis in
humans may seem farfetched, but 50 years ago
no-one suspected that
parthenogenesis could
occur in any vertebrate:
now all-female species
have been documented in
fish, amphibians, reptiles
and birds (all major orders
of vertebrates except mammals).
Parthenogenetic reproduction
(reproduction without males) could
occur among human females yet
remain unnoticed. Indeed, such a
woman could have a husband and
be totally unaware of her own
condition.
A major study was conducted
on the topic by Balfour-Lynn in 1956,
which studied eight alleged cases,
out of which in only one case, Mrs.
Alpha and daughter, did the
subjects show apparent genetic
identity in blood groups and several
other genetically determined traits
including electrophoretic analysis of
serum. The probability of such a
close match between a mother and
daughter produced by heterosexual
reproduction is less than one
chance in a billion.

Victim sues for more cash than is on Earth

A New York man has filed a
two undecillion dollar
lawsuit demanding what is
believed to be the largest
amount of compensation
ever after he was bitten by
a dog.
Anton Purisima is suing
a long list of defendants
including the City of New York,
a chain of cafes and a discount
s t o r e
f o r
$2,000,000,000,000,000,000,0
00,000,000,000,000.
Purisima filed his
scribbled hand written lawsuit in a
Manhattan federal court on April 11
and is representing himself.
His claim, equivalent to
1,200,000,000,000,000,000,000,00
0,000,000,000, is more than the
amount of money on earth.
In his 22-page lawsuit, he
details he is suing for injuries such as
an infected middle finger he received
after being bitten by a rabiesinfected dog on a bus.

The 62-year-old also claims a

'Chinese couple' then took
unauthorized pictures of him as he
was being treated at a local hospital.
Bizarrely he then writes within
his often incoherent lawsuit he is
frequently overcharged for coffee at
New York's LaGuardia Airport.
To back up his claim he
includes a picture of his injured finger
while saying the pain and other
additional damages he suffered

cannot be repaired
by money and are 'therefore
priceless.'
Purisima alleges his
also suffered civil rights
violations, discrimination on
national origin, conspiracy to
defraud, retaliation, fraud,
attempted murder,
harassment and intentional
infliction of emotional
distress.
The list of defendants
in the case includes New
York City Transit Authority,
City of New York, cafe chain
Au Bon Pain, Carepoint Health, a New
Jersey University Medical Centre,
discount store Kmart, a hospital's
emergency department, NYC MTA,
LaGuardia Airport Administration,
cafe chain Au Bon Pain and discount
store Kmart.
Purisima is no stranger to
making claims. Since 2010 he has
filed lawsuits against the People's
Republic of China and several major
banks.

Deafening noise from

helicopters flying over Susan
Knowlden's mountain home in
Trout Run, Pennsylvania, in
search of shale gas deposits,
sent her skittish rabbits into a
frenzy.
It scared the you-knowwhat out of them, Knowlden said.
They hit the sides of their cages and
trampled the babies. They broke
their necks or backs or legs.
Knowlden filed a lawsuit this
week against CGG, the French oiland-gas exploration company
based in Paris, one of many energy
firms involved in oil and gas

extraction in Pennsylvania's
Marcellus Shale, a heartland of
America's fracking boon. The
company also uses helicopters that
employ seismic equipment to
explore for gas deposits.
The helicopters fly "treetop
level" overflights despite
assurances by CGG that a 1,000foot no-fly zone would be observed,

The

said Tom Waffenschmidt,

Knowlden's lawyer.
My teeth rattled in my
head, Knowlden said. They
were less than 20 feet above my
barn.
As a result, she said, she
lost 168 of her prize breeding and
show rabbits more than half her
animals, she said.
Some of the survivors were
unable to breed, said Knowlden,
who said the show rabbits' pure
bloodlines go back 28 or 29
generations.
Her lawsuit against CGG in
Lycoming County Court of
Common Pleas, Williamsport,
seeks unspecified damages.
Breeders say setting a value on the
animals is complex, but that a long,
clean pedigree counts for a lot.
The company did not
immediately respond to requests for
comment from its offices in Paris,
Houston, and Williamsport,
Pennsylvania.

Aries Mar 21 - Apr 20

Why don't plans come to fruition sometimes? Why do they sometimes not
go 'to plan'? Making plans is easy and, provided they're realistic and
attainable with the right levels of belief and effort, there shouldn't be any
reason to feel we're wasting our time. Yet, we know the saying about what
happens to 'best laid plans' and see for ourselves how awry they can go.
This week, the cosmos is giving you a glorious break from such an attitude
or opinion. Something close to your heart moves forward in a delightful
way, finally! You really can afford to keep your faith levels high.
Taurus Apr 21 - May 21
We hear people speak about wolves donning sheeps' clothing. We
interpret this to mean something unhelpful or sinister concealed beneath
what appears inviting or harmless. The same can be said about
opportunities and the way they often present themselves. We view them
initially as something to be wary of or concerned about. We fail to see
potential that exists in what appears bleak or uninspiring initially. This week
brings you an opportunity to seize through recognizing what is truly positive
within it. Don't see it as unhelpful or a setback.

Libra Sep 24 - Oct 23

'Smile and the world smiles with you'. People might wonder what you
have to be so happy about but that doesn't alter the fact that they can't
help but feel positive in your presence. There has been, for some time in
your astrological outlook, much focus on influence you hold where one
or two other peoples' lives are concerned. You can also make a big
difference where certain peoples' attitudes and concerns are
concerned. Just a smile or quiet word from you is all it would take and the
coming week brings proof of how keen at least one person is to hear
what you think.
Scorpio Oct 24 - Nov 22
If we look at the tiniest insect under a microscope, it can appear
frightening. Yet, we see it as practically insignificant at other times. It is
only when something is magnified to such an extent that we see it clearly
in ways we're not used to that we create reasons to be fearful. The same
applies to a particular issue in your world. It too is being made to appear
bigger than it really is and is causing you to feel apprehensive or
anxious. It's time to face a fear and gain proportion-based perspective of
something that ought not be seen in the way you insist on seeing it.

Gemini May 22 - Jun 22

Negotiation is a two-way process. Both parties need to feel they have
gained in some way through a line of discussion. Many people don't see
negotiating as two-way, though. They stick rigidly to what they want and
focus solely on that, unconcerned or even oblivious to what someone else
is asking in return. Avoid a tendency to do precisely that this week. You
have understandable reasons for making clear what you want from an
arrangement and why. If you can make an effort to take on board someone
else's needs, then both of you can gain this week.

Sagittarius Nov 23 - Dec 21

Despite what we think, opportunities often present themselves when we
need them and not before. It's as if they stand there, watching us,
tapping their foot wondering if we're going to notice them. They
understand the decision surrounding whether or not to seize them is
entirely ours but they soon shake their heads in despair when we fail to
even acknowledge them. I'll stop with the human-like analogy where
opportunities are concerned, but the sky insists you have one in
particular waiting to be recognized and seized by you. All you need to do
is push aside a fear.

Cancer Jun 23 - Jul 23

We hear people say we don't get second chances to make first
impressions. Much depends though on how reassured we are that those
we're trying to impress understood us and effort we made to do so.
Sometimes, people draw incorrect conclusions about us despite us having
done everything we can to make a good first impression. In your world now,
there exists a need to impress a particular person who, quite frankly, is
requiring more effort than you're prepared to give. The coming week brings
an opportunity to bring some balance to an imbalanced situation.

Capricorn Dec 22 - Jan 20

Where specific situations and arrangements are concerned, we want to
know where we 'stand'. We can take at face value what we see and are
being told yet are often aware of how much more there is to some
situations, especially when we see a much bigger picture that casts a
much bigger light on a situation. You're likely aware of uncertainty and
ambiguity that exists in a particular arrangement or relationship. You're
being encouraged to accept a situation is as it appears yet can't help but
sense there's more to it than meets the eye. Trust your senses.

Leo Jun 24 - Aug 23

Fashions work in cycles sometimes. What was once the 'rage' becomes
the subject of ridicule yet manages to once again gain respect among the
masses. Just because a particular fashion returns doesn't mean everyone
embraces it. Some people prefer to leave the past behind and focus only on
the future. There's something you can gain from past experience. It might
be met with opposition or even ridicule from certain people who struggle to
understand why you'd choose to look backward instead of forward but a
past solution is very relevant and appropriate now.

Aquarius Jan 21 - Feb 19

We know how effective levers can be. Applying force in specific ways to
large and seemingly immovable objects can result in impressive results.
Such impressive results can be achieved with considerably less effort
than we believe is required. Bear this in mind with what you are so keen
to change now. Consider how much effort is required to improve what
needs improving. Then, have faith in the fact that less effort is likely to be
required than you probably suspect. You can make a considerable
difference and significant progress now in ways that will surprise you.

Virgo Aug 24 - Sep 23

'You can't always get what you want'. Mick Jagger's words don't state
anything we don't already know but serve as a reminder of the fact that,
sometimes, what we set our hearts on doesn't always come to fruition. This
does present us with a choice, though. We can either become despondent
or choose to see the benefit surrounding altering our options or desires. If it
is becoming clear that a particular plan is unlikely to happen as you
intended originally, then this week brings a good reason to feel optimistic
about how you can put in place a much better one!

Pisces Feb 20 - Mar 20

Pilots take red lights that flash suddenly in cockpits seriously. Such
flashing lights are warnings, though. They are there to inform the person
or people in charge of the aircraft of something they ought to be aware of
with a view to fixing or sorting. Pilots don't spend their entire time whilst
flying looking at warning lights. It's important they focus on where they're
meant to be going. The same applies to you this week. Don't get fixated
on a need to focus on what's potentially negative or appears in need of
cautious attention. The view is much so more enjoyable in other ways.

Beyonce Knowles

(bee-YON-say) born September 4, 1981 is an American singer

and actress. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, she performed
in various singing and dancing competitions as a child, and rose
to fame in the late 1990s as lead singer of R&B girl-group
Destiny's Child. Managed by her father Mathew Knowles, the
group became one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all
time. Their hiatus saw the release of Beyonc's debut album,
Dangerously in Love (2003), which established her as a solo
artist worldwide; it sold 11 million copies, earned five Grammy
Awards and featured the Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles
"Crazy in Love" and "Baby Boy".
Following the disbandment of Destiny's Child in 2005, she
released her second solo album, B'Day (2006), which contained
hits "Dj Vu", "Irreplaceable" and "Beautiful Liar". Beyonc also
ventured into acting, with a Golden Globe-nominated
performance in Dreamgirls (2006), and starring roles in The Pink
Panther (2006) and Obsessed (2009). Her marriage to rapper
Jay-Z and portrayal of Etta James in Cadillac Records (2008)
influenced her third album, I Am... Sasha Fierce (2008), which
saw the birth of her alter-ego Sasha Fierce and earned a recordsetting six Grammy Awards in 2010, including Song of the Year
for "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)". Beyonc took a hiatus from
music in 2010 and took over management of her career; (2011)
was subsequently mellower in tone, exploring 1970s funk, 1980s
pop, and 1990s soul. Her fifth studio album, Beyonc (2013),
was critically acclaimed and was distinguished from previous
releases by its experimental production and exploration of darker
themes.
A self-described "modern-day feminist", Beyonc's songs are
often characterized by themes of love, relationships, and
monogamy, as well as female sexuality and empowerment. On
stage, her dynamic, highly choreographed performances have
led to critics hailing her as one of the best entertainers in

contemporary popular music. Throughout a career spanning 16

years, she has won 17 Grammy Awards and sold over 118 million
records as a solo artist and 60 million with Destiny's Child,
making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. The
Recording Industry Association of America recognized Beyonc
as the Top Certified Artist in America during the 2000s decade. In
2009, Billboard named her the Top Radio Songs Artist of the
Decade, the Top Female Artist of the 2000s and their Artist of the
Millennium in 2011. In 2014 she became the highest-earning
black musician in history. She was included in Time magazine's
list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2013 and in
2014.
Listen Lyrics
Listen to the song here in my heart
A melody I start but can't complete
Listen to the sound from deep within
It's only beginning to find release
Oh, the time has come for my dreams to be heard
They will not be pushed aside and turned
Into your own all 'cause you won't
Listen
Listen, I am alone at a crossroads
I'm not at home in my own home
And I've tried and tried to say what's on my mind
You should have known
Oh, now I'm done believing you
You don't know what I'm feeling
I'm more than what you made of me
I followed the voice you gave to me
But now I've gotta find my own
You should have listened, there is someone here inside
Someone I thought had died so long ago
Oh, I'm free now and my dreams will be heard
They will not be pushed aside or turned
Into your own all 'cause you won't
Listen
Listen, I am alone at a crossroads
I'm not at home in my own home
And I've tried and tried to say what's on mind
You should have known
Oh, now I'm done believing you
You don't know what I'm feeling
I'm more than what you made of me
I followed the voice you gave to me
But now I've gotta find my own
I don't know where I belong
But I'll be moving on
If you don't, if you won't
Listen to the song here in my heart
A melody I start but I will complete
Oh, now I'm done believing you
You don't know what I'm feeling
I'm more than what you made of me
I followed the voice you think you gave to me
But now I've gotta find my own

KUNINGAN DAY
endongan
decorations hanging outside
Kuningan day, that marks the end of the
Gaungan holiday, is celebrated every 210 homes and temples.
Tamiang means - and is formed as a round days, ten days after Galungan.
The Balinese believe that Kuningan day is the
day when their ancestors return to heaven after
visiting the earth during Galungan celebration. They
make offerings to be
given to the ancestors
on their farewell day.
The offerings include
yellowed rice
(Kuningan is derived
from the word kuning
which means yellow)
which is placed in a
small "bowl" made of
coconut leaves. Other
common offerings a
seeds, fish and fruit like
papaya and cucumber. The yellow rice
is the symbol of human's gratitude
towards God for all the life, joy, wealth,
health and prosperity given. The bowls
are decorated with a small figures of
shadow puppets which represents
angels that bring joy and wealth to
earth.
It is also said that on Kuningan day Ida Sang
Hyang Widhi (God) is blessing and giving prosperity
to the whole world. Many people believe that the
celebration should be done before noon, before
gods and goddess' return to the heavens to
continue their asceticism.
On Kuningan day you can see tamiang and

shield and represents protection, defense, and the

cycle of the globe. It functions as a reminder to
humans of karma and that they should protect
themselves from bad behavior.
Endongan means bag of
provisions. It is made of coconut
leaves and shaped like a bag or a
pocket. The Balinese put different
things like seeds, fruits, tuber inside
the endongan. Some people see it is a
symbol of food supply for the journey
of the ancestors from earth to heaven.
From a spiritual view,
endongan represents
the essential
provisions that every
human should carryknowledge and
homage.
In some villages,
especially in Gianyar
region, Barongs or
ngelawangs - lion like
creatures - are going
from house to house
followed by kids playing traditional Balinese music
instruments. If a barong arrives in front of your
house, you should give an offering called canang
with sesari (money) on it, after receiving the offering;
the barong will dance and bless your house and your
family.

The Drunk
A drunk who reeked of
booze sat down at the
train station next to a
priest. The bloke's tie
was stained, his face
was plastered with
red lipstick, and a halfempty bottle of scotch was sticking out of his
coat pocket. He opened his newspaper and began
reading.
After a few minutes the man turned to the priest
and asked, "Say, Father, what causes arthritis?"
"My Son, it's caused by loose living, being with
cheap, wicked women, too much alcohol and a
contempt for your fellow man," the priest said.
"Well, I'll be buggered," the drunk muttered,
returning to his paper.
The priest, thinking about what he had said,
nudged the bloke and apologized. "I'm very sorry.
I didn't mean to come on so strong. How long have
you had arthritis?"
"I don't have it, Father. I was just reading here
that the Pope does," the bloke said.

Adam and Eve

One day, a little girl asked her father,
"How did the human race start?" The
father answered,
"God made Adam and Eve and they had
children, and so all mankind was made."
Next day, the little girl asked her mother
the same question. The mother answered,
"Many years ago, there were monkeys,
from which the human race evolved." The
confused girl returned to her father and
said, "Dad, how is it possible that you
told me the human race was created by
God, and Mum said they developed from
monkeys?" The father answered, "Well,
dear, it is very simple. I told you about
my side of the family and your mother
told you about hers."

Beauty crown 'meant for another girl'

Beauty pageant
organisers in New
Zealand have been left
red-faced after telling the
19-year-old winner they
were reversing their
decision because the
confused her with
"another Indian girl".
Tw o d a y s a f t e r
crowning Synthia Nath Miss
Globe New Zealand,
organizers reversed their
decision, telling her they
confused her with another
contestant Loriza Latif, .
The science student was told
she could still compete at next
month's Miss Globe International
competition in Turkey a trip which
was supposed to have been part of
her prize but that she would have to
come up within estimated $3000 to
finance it.
Ms Nath, who paid $500 to
enter the quest and another $500 for

her dress, is now seeking

compensation and an apology after
organizers told her the mix-up was
an honest mistake because the
she and Ms Latif look alike.
They told me, 'Do you have
$3000?' Ms Nath said.
I was shocked, I was like,
'Aren't you supposed to give me the
money?' They were like 'No' and
asked if I had the three grand or not.

Ms Nath then called

pageant organizers Face
of Beauty International
chief executive Milagros
Manuel.
(Ms Manual) said,
'Good, you don't have the
money. Give the crown
and sash back, I have
other girls lined up', Miss
Nath said.
She said when she
tried to return the sash and
crown she received an
email reading "You can
keep it and pretend that
you still are Miss Globe".
Ms Nath is seeking
reimbursement for the entry fee and
$420 for 10 tickets she sold a
condition of entry.
Ms Milagros confirmed what
she had told Ms Nath about an
honest mistake having been made
because the two Indian contestants
looked alike, in a statement to the
paper.

This structure is a regularly practiced

procedure in Indonesia, whereby the
foreigner nominates and Indonesian
representative to acquire the land and to hold
the 'freehold' title (Hak Milik) on behalf of the
foreigner.
Ownership of the land is transferred
from the previous owner to the Indonesian
nominee.
The foreigner and the Indonesian
nominee then sign an agreement which
recognizes the Indonesian nominee as the
legal owner of the property whilst declaring
the foreigner as the rightful owner of the
property. This agreement denotes that the
Indonesian nominee will carry out any
directives from the foreigner regarding the
land. This agreement must always be
concluded in the presence of a public notary.

ABC staff warned to prepare for the worst

ABC staff have been
warned to prepare
for painful budget
cuts, job losses and
the "tragedy" of the
g o v e r n m e n t
scrapping the
Australia Network
international
broadcasting
service.
In an email to ABC
employees, ABC board
member and veteran journalist Matt
Peacock argues even a small
reduction to ABC funding will threaten
jobs and lead to cutbacks in regional
areas. He also says the ABC is being
targeted by the Murdoch press, which
he claims has a commercial agenda
to limit the public broadcaster's reach.
"It looks like a difficult road
ahead," Mr Peacock writes in the
email, which warns of a "serious
threat to jobs and our continued
growth".
"These are tense times at the
national public broadcaster, with
sustained attacks by the Murdoch
media, politicians and others," he

writes. "Worse may be to

come."
Fairfax Media has reported
the government is considering
applying an "efficiency dividend" to
the broadcaster and ABC
executives have been planning
how they would cope with budget
cuts of 10 per cent and upwards.
Mr Peacock's intervention,
which was cleared for release by
ABC chairman James Spigelman,
highlights the concern within the
broadcaster about next week's
federal budget. These are Mr
Peacock's first public comments
since he joined the board as staffelected director last
April.
While noting
the Coalition
promise not to cut
ABC funding during
the 2013 election, Mr
Peacock writes:
"Any cuts will have
major effects. There
is no real flexibility
within current
services to trim 'fat'.
We have already
seen the result of
previous cuts.
I n e v i t a b l y, t h e y

and state-based

has signalled
that the $30m
provided by the
p r e v i o u s
government to pay
for news initiatives
and digital costs will
not be ongoing. That
money will have to
be found from
somewhere else if
our output in these
areas is to continue."
Mr Peacock,
best known for
exposing the dangers of James
Hardie's use of asbestos, writes
that real budget cuts over three
decades have already left the ABC
"a shell of its former self".
He also addresses
speculation the government will
axe the $223 million Australia
Network.
"Australia Network has just
secured the biggest coup of any
western media - access to the
entire Chinese audience through
web-based services, as well as a
similar deal with Indonesia," he
writes.
"It would be a tragedy to
waste these successful initiatives.
However, if the government does
walk away from its contract with
the ABC for this service, some job
losses seem inevitable."
Mr Peacock writes the
network has been targeted by the
"Murdoch media".
"Murdoch has a clear
agenda - he wants it for his own
commercial service," he writes.
Britsh broadcaster BSkyB,
part owned by Rupert Murdoch's
21st Century Fox, is a co-owner of
Sky News, which competed with
the ABC for the Australia Network
tender.
Mr Peacock urges his
colleagues to provide
"independent, accurate and
impartial coverage" amid any
budgetary pressures or attacks
from commercial outlets.
