1. Surface Water storage Tank

1. Punching Shear to improve on the structures performance there should be slab
thickening at the middle column, and at the wall area on the foundation. (300-350mmm
thick slab at the centre and the slab edges )
2. Due to pressure difference along the height, the wall should be tapered. The lower
portion expected to carry the highest pressure (h) should be around 450mm thick (1
st
1m
height of the tank) the second 1m height should be 375mm thick and the final 1m and free
board should be 250mm thick.
3. Detail X Indicates that the wall shall be placed at the edge of the slab (i.e. the two shall
flash), the main drawing shows that the wall shall begin 250mm inside the slab. It is
necessary to unify the two and it is recommended that the wall is placed 250mm within the
slab.
4. Sump /scour pipe the tank lacks a point for cleaning and flushing out dirt after cleaning.
5. Over flow pipe the outlet pipe is placed above the indicated 3m maximum water level.
6. Out let pipe- this pipe should be placed within the concrete slab
7. Void the location of the void as per the roof plan is not the same as for the tank section.
And the position must be as close as possible to the position o the ladder.
8. Ladder the ladder should not have steps at 0.5m apart. This should be improved to steps
of about 0.2 to 0.3m apart. The ladder should also terminate at the void entry and extended
outside the void for ease of entry/exit.
9. Air vent- materials should be defined (GI or UPVC)
10. Masonry Wall- Joints size should also be defined (12mm, 15mm or 20mm)
11. And cement motor This should be improve especially for the internal wall from (1:4) to
(1:2)
12. Roof tank Slab the roof should terminate 200mm after the tank external wall. The
overhang should have a groove (20mm diameter) underneath to prevent rain water from
running on the tank wall and prevent growth of algae on the walls.
13. A bar bending schedule might be necessary to be included as a table within the drawing.
Roof slab bars seem to be longer than the slab width/diameter
14. Since there are no beams -the roof slab must be thickened at the point of its connection
with the column.

2. Underground water tank
1. Punching Shear to improve on the structures performance there should be slab
thickening at the middle column, and at the wall area on the foundation. (300-350mmm
thick slab at the centre and the slab edges )
2. Ladder the ladder is not indicated in the drawing.
3. Screens both the inlet and the outlet of the tanks should be protected from entry of dirt or
animals to the tank
4. Air vent- materials should be defined (GI or UPVC)

3. Water Pan
1. Control point Beacons (survey monuments) need to be shown and their elevations
indicated
2. The membrane (Ldpe) need to be extended to the outside above the Top water level
otherwise seepage will take place through the sides.
3. Spillway/inflow area- this are should be improved to allow smooth (non turbulent flow)
from the inlet to the spillway when the pan is full. This will reduce erosion
4. Level +3.5 marks the crest of the embankment. Hence level +2.5 shouldnt be marked as
embankment crest
5. Contour levels need to be shown for comparison purposes during the start of the
implementation of the project and for measurement purposes.
6. The layout plan lacks dimensions (length, width) hence one cannot tell the capacity or size
of the water pan.
7. Intake chamber finer details need to be shown.
8. Contours indicate levels of (-440) to (560) this needs to be clarified out on units and point
of origin used on site.
9. Fence this is not defined (chain link on concrete post, berbed wire on cider posts
etc)
10. Gate No details of the gate (main entrance)
