Reflecting on Gods Word
We can get caught up in the details and miss the
heart of the message today. Where did Jesus go? Is
heaven up there? Why doesnt Matthews Gospel
have Jesus being taken up? Doesnt this feast re-
move Jesus from us, to some place where he sits at
the right hand of the Father? Sound a little disen-
gaged?
In his introduction to the writings of St. Bernard of
Clairvaux, Jean Leclercq writes that the mystery of
the Ascension fulfilled the mystery of love in which
Jesus returns to the glory of the Father. The Son
then sends the Spirit to unite us with the Father in
love. Thus, in Bernards thought, the Ascension is a
symbol for the passage of Christ from his life in
mortal flesh to glorious life in the Spirit. This same
transition from flesh to Spirit can also be accom-
plished in us, since it has already taken place in
Christ.
But we are not simply passive recipients. There is
work to be done. Lukes angels bluntly tell the
apostles to get moving. Matthews final scene spells
out the work: Go forth and make disciples, baptiz-
ing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit, and teaching others to observe all that I have
commanded you (Matthew 28:19). Witness to Je-
sus, in word and deed.
The task of spreading the good news that is Jesus
Christ, teaching others about him, can seem daunt-
ing. But we are not alone. We have the promise that
the Holy Spirit will work with us; in Matthew, Je-
sus final words are reassuring: I am with you al-
ways (28:20). That is reason enough to work with
confidence.

To my parish family,

As I announced after much prayer, I
have accepted a position at another
parish in our Diocese and will be
leaving Christ the King on June 8,
2014.

Christ the King Parish has been my home for over 25
years. It has truly been a privilege to be part of this
parish community for so long. Many of my
colleagues have asked how I can stay at one parish
for so long, and my answer has always been the
same: I love the people. You have been part of my
extended family for the majority of my life.

As with any major change in ones life, there are
moments of joy and moments of sadness. It was not
easy, but I truly believe that the Holy Spirit was with
me when I made this decision.

Thank you for letting me be part of your lives.

With Sincerest Gratitude,

Bill Runge

From Fr. Peter and Staff

Over those years Bill has shared his gifts of time and
talent with the parish of CTK and other local parishes
in the diocese. Bills planning and working with staff
to produce beautiful, prayerful liturgies and prayer
opportunities will be missed. From planning Advent,
Lent, Ordinary Time and the Christmas seasons that
assisted us in our prayer life. The leading, teaching
organizing of the liturgical ministries music groups
from children to adults. Bill made possible with
Gods help to invite and work with young instrumen-
talists to enhance our liturgies. He has shared his love
for liturgy and music which increased full active par-
ticipation at Mass. The funeral choir has assisted the
bereaved and ministries of consoling who have
brought the presence of Christ. Just a few of the
many things accomplished for this we are grateful
Bill. We wish you well at your new parish in the dio-
cese and will miss your smile and your gift of music.

My LAst Holy Hour as Presider
Adoration Representatives of the CTK adorers gathered for my final holy hour as presider. Following the prayer, we
gathered in our parish life center for some delicious soup, pizza and sweets. The special part of this time we sat around
three tables and shared memories of CTK. Topics like how many years we have been parishioners, the importance of
adoration these twelve years, things
going on in our lives and sharing
about adorers like Bill and Magda
Richards who are moving to Flor-
ida. There were single young, single
older, widowers, widows, married
couples who shared stories around our
tables. This is one of the many
graces which the parish received;
individuals healed, finding employ-
ment, vocations, families healed, mar-
riages strengthened. The staff, dea-
cons and I, thank the adorers who
have made an hour commitment over
a decade, and others who stop by for a
moment. All of these thousands of
hours of prayer have created and sus-
tained us into the community we are
in 2014. Thank you to those who set
up and clean up for adoration, adora-
tion committee, hour captains and the
Deacons Frank, Wayne and Peter who have presided at holy hours these years and Deacon Fred in heaven. Bill Runge
who has created many holy hours for us to use as a prayer guide during the hour of prayer. The worship commission and
Bill who have directed, evaluated and supported Eucharist adoration and other prayer opportunities at our parish. We
are grateful for our parishioners who stay longer to ensure that Jesus in the blessed sacrament was not left alone. It is
my hope and prayer that in the years to come adoration will continue with the help of parishioners who come forward
for an hour commitment of prayer. Wherever we are in our future, may we keep united in prayer when we visit the
Blessed Sacrament in our Diocesan Parishes. May our Lady of the Eucharist keep us close to Her Son, the Bread of
Life. In your kindness remember Bill Runge and Fr. Jeff.
Amen, Amen.
Fr. Peter Jarosz
Summer Adoration Hours
Thanks to all who visit our Lord. What a blessing Adoration has been for CTK parish. Already the numbers have been
decreasing for the summer hours. This past week the Blessed Sacrament was left alone for one hour.
If you are unable to make it for the hour, you need to please call the office and find a substitute to stand (pray) in your
place and inform us of the substitutes name.

STEWARDSHIP OF TIME
St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry at Christ the King Parish
Our Food Pantry was the beneficiary of 64 bags of groceries
from the Villa Park Post Office and 23 bins of groceries from
the Elmhurst Post Office in their Food Drive held on May
10th. The groceries that we received from the Post Offices
Stamp Out Hunger drives, in addition to food drives from
Congregation Etz Chaim, Montini High School, CTK Early
Learning Academy and CTK Youth Group helped to feed
6000 people served by our pantry in the last 12 months. We
are grateful for the generosity of these wonderful organiza-
tions. Local businesses in Lombard are also generous contribu-
tors who help with our goal of feeding the needy in our area.
Jewel contributes produce and bakery every week. Some-
times they give us meat and dairy also. Pizza Hut, Chipotle,
Capital Grill, Panera Bread and Starbucks also contribute food
items every week. Ultra Foods gives us bakery and helps with
other needs. We provide our most needy clients with a
voucher for Ultra Foods to purchase items we do not have.
Our volunteers pick up weekly from these very generous local
businesses. We purchase food, personal items and household
cleaning items monthly from NIFB at a fraction of the normal
cost and they often put items in our shipments that are free.
Most of all, we are grateful to CTK parishioners who donate
the funds that we need to help our clients. With your contribu-
tions, we serve between 30 and 40 families each week. Not
only do you contribute money in your envelopes, and every
contribution helps, but we frequently find bags of groceries
left for us in the narthex. Often parishioners stop by on Mon-
day morning and drop off eggs and cereal, vegetables from
their gardens, school supplies and warm clothing for winter.
We want to thank you all for your help. Perhaps you wonder
what else we might need. Personal care items such as diapers,
shampoos, soaps, lotions, feminine care products and cleaning
products are always welcome. Just leave them in the Narthex,
marked SVDP. An update on the computer sign-in system we
installed last fall. It is working beautifully, helping us keep
much better track of the people who come through the pantry
so that we can better serve them. We are currently converting
the manual tracking of our donations and expenses to a Quick-
Books program to make our financial reporting easier and
more efficient also.
I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty
and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you
invited me in. (Matt 25:35)
