Welcome to Greenbelt ACLS!!

Greenbelt ACLS recently formed to meet
the educational needs of health care
professionals of all disciplines. We offer
ACLS, PALS and PEARS in accordance
with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of
Canada (HSFC) and the American Heart
Association (AHA). Greenbelt operates out
of a large country home NW of Toronto,
between Newmarket and Orangeville. We
have a one day 11 hour format for the ACLS Provider, and an 8 hour day for ACLS
updates. PALS provider courses run over two days, update courses are 8 hours. Courses
always run on weekdays. The 2010 manual and ECC handbook are included and shipped
to your door ahead of time. There is pre course study to be done so that you are
prepared for your courses. For all advanced courses you must have taken a BCLS for
health care providers course within the last year. HSFC has also mandated that all
advanced courses have a written exam component (including updates). Light breakfast,
lunch, snacks and parking are provided. You receive an HSFC provider card upon
successful completion mailed directly to your address from the Heart and Stroke
Foundation of Canada. A receipt is issued on course day. A one day course instead of
two, and no weekends. Greenbelt also offers the Pediatric Emergency Assessment
Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) program, and a new workshop on Rapid
Assessment of Adults & Pediatrics. Please see the course pages for program dates and
descriptions.

PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY ASSESSMENT, RECOGNITION AND STABILIZATION &
PEDIATRIC ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT

PEARS is for the practitioner who does not
work in a pediatric critical care area, but
requires assessment and intervention skills
when emergencies do occur. Examples include
walk-in clinics, dental IV certified, paramedics,
sub-acute inpatient floors, family
practice, community and school based nursing.
All our PEARS courses start at 0800 and end at
1600. Highlights of our PEARS course
include systematic approach to care, managing
airway and respiratory emergencies, ECG monitoring, cardiac arrest, defibrillation,
shock, trauma and fluid resuscitation . We present DVD based cases with group
discussion, and spend a lot of time on practical scenarios. There is less emphasis on

dysrhythmias, ECG interpretation and pharmacology when compared to PALS. There is
a short DVD based exam at the end of the day. BCLS for Health Care Providers (HCPs) is
strongly recommended as a prerequisite for this course.

PALS is designed for the practitioner who works within pediatric critical care areas .
Emergency, ICU, post anaesthetic care, telemetry and EMS are some examples where
knowledge of pharmacology, airway and oxygen delivery, electrical therapy and fluid
resuscitation are tantamount to the care of critically ill children. Effective team dynamics,
high quality CPR, IO, drug dosing, airway management and oxygen delivery are just
some of the additional subjects we cover.
