Cross Cultural Understanding

Ms. Julianne,

I am so proud about your material exactly cross culture understanding. For the

first time I learned about it. Cross cultural understanding is shapes the future why is

that because with the cross culture understanding , we have known how to make a

compare and contrast between each country in over the world.

Cross culture understanding or we can call it CCU help us to establish and understand

what should we do in communicating with each other in different culture. We can

share about anything such as values, understandings, assumptions, and goals that are

learned from earlier generations until present day. Like you tell us last week. It also

refers to people ability in doing something to know, to interpret, and to react correctly

with the situation that probably yield misunderstanding. Cross cultural understanding

simply refers to the basic ability of people within business to recognize interpret and

correctly react to problem about cultural, economic. Etc.

Cross cultural understanding is one of necessary ingredients in cross national

understanding. Cross cultural understanding is concerned with understanding people

from different cultural backgrounds. In order to be able to do business with them,

work with them, or possibly move to and function in their countries. Culture find

expression through the patterns behavior, decision-making process, ethnic, morals and
values on which a society is based. National culture are built up over many years, and

spring from a country’s history, geography, sociology, language and religion.

When we provide cross cultural guidance, we begin by making participants aware of

the fact that their own behavior is very much culturally, fundamental value, system

and morals they see as normal will often appear strange to people from other

countries. A certain insight into one’s own culture is an important prerequisite for

understanding other culture.

We then examine the specific cultural area within which the participant must

function. We look at patterns about behavior, but also attempt to provide a historical,

geographical, sociological, religion, to know about and understand what lies behind

the culture of each countries. It is make easy to know it.

A process of cross cultural understanding always concludes with an evaluation

of whether the goal has been satisfactory fulfilled. There will also be an opportunity

to know about relation to any problem. CCU is better to be learnt earlier especially for

Indonesian because in fact Indonesia consists of many cultures. We will find many

different language, dialect, behavior, customs, cuisine, traditional dress, wedding

party, special agenda, and many more. It is not only a part of language learns, but also

it is learnt separately in every grade in Indonesia or the other country

 I will make compare and contrast about American and

Indonesian culture.

1. Indonesia is one of “Malay Group” melayu Malays

(Malay: Melayu) are an ethnic group of

Austronesian peoples. Most of all this ethnic

group’s culture is so different with another

culture in over the world. Including in Malay

(ethnic group) are, Indonesia, Malaysia,

Brunei Darussalam.

Example.:

• 1st. most the people in Indonesia wearing decent clothes it’s so

different in American. In my mind, most of the people are not wearing proper

clothing

• 2nd. Indonesia college student wearing formal cloth but in America it’s

so different. That’s fair.

• 3rd. think about live together without matrimony. In America that’s

right but for the best of my knowledge that’s wrong in Indonesia because

Indonesia is Islamic country, we have a role. Its look like lack of religion

teaching

• 4th. For example, Indonesian people talk begin with the wind

conversation as an opening before they go to the point of the topic that they

want exactly talk about. Different with Americans, Germany and Franc, they are

delivered what they thought directly. This is the fact that it is not easy to

understand about culture each other.

We are live in globalization era which the people do communication with other

people that has a different culture, Working, meeting, dealing, entertaining,

negotiating with colleagues from diferent cultures can be a minefield We can

conclude that, cross culture understanding is a fancy way of saying takes the time to

learn about other people. If there are some conflicts or misunderstanding in some

cultures, it probably will appear a bigger problem in those cultures. A problem about

accost somebody to have a relationship in community will destroy the truly aim if we

don’t understand native culture.
