Applied Sciences! Applied Sciences! Applied Sciences! Applied Sciences!
Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1971. More than 9,000 students
study in the fields of Technology, Architecture, Natural and Engineering Sciences, Econo-
my, Design, Social Sciences and Nursing and Health. All study programmes finish with a
Bachelors or a Masters degree. A Bachelor programme has a duration of six or seven
semesters, Master programmes take three or four semesters.
Students at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences benefit from a perfect combination of
science and practical experience, which is made possible thanks to good contacts be-
tween the university and regional companies.
The Faculty of Engineering and Mathematics offers
scholarship holders of Cincia sem Fronteiras Ale-
manha a specially designed programme of one or
two semesters in the field of study Mechanical Mechanical Mechanical Mechanical E EE En- n- n- n-

Before the start of the study programme, scholarship holders take a 10-week intensive
German course that will prepare them for their studies in terms of technical language. The
course will continue during the semester. For German courses, Bielefeld University of
Applied Sciences has been working for many years with a language school situated in
Bielefeld called bibis. Their teachers are very experienced in teaching university stu-
dents from all over the world.
The town of Bielefeld The town of Bielefeld The town of Bielefeld The town of Bielefeld
Bielefeld is located in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia in the North-West of
Germany. The town was founded in 1214 and is, with its 330,000 inhabitants, one of the
20 largest towns in Germany. About 27,000 students study in Bielefeld and give the town
a good touch of student life. Bielefeld offers great opportunities for culture, sports and
leisure time activities. Beside several theatres, museums and cinemas you find a wide
variety of cafs, bars, restaurants and clubs. Going by train, you can get to Germanys
capital Berlin in about two and a half hours.
Bielefeld is also an important industrial centre with
well-known companies like Dr. Oetker, Bllhoff, Gil-
demeister, Schco and many others.

The International Office of Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences coordinates a
team of Buddies who take care of international students. They are a network of
students who aim to help international students start their new lives in Bielefeld.
They provide assistance and give advice throughout the exchange period, and pro-
mote active interchange between German and international students.

The scholars personal Buddy will take care of them right from the moment when
they arrive in Bielefeld. Scholars will be picked up from the train or bus station and
helped with formalities (registration at the university, health insurance, Auslnder-
amt [Foreigners Registration Office]...), everyday things like shopping, buying a
bicycle etc and getting to know Bielefelds student life (pubs, cinemas, night
clubs...). The Buddies will also help the scholars organize their studies and will be
a good support for learning German.

During the semester the Buddy Team organizes a wide variety of events and activi-
ties, such as excursions and day trips, company tours and parties.
