This manual describes the safety precautions that must be realized when servicing the GANTRY and PDU as part
of the CT system. These 2 subsystems pose unique potential hazards to the service person. This manual is not
geared for detailed service training, but is written to emphasize awareness to the unique safety hazards facing the
person who services this system.
Danger, warning and caution statements are made throughout the manual with the symbols shown below. In addition,
international symbols, shown on the next page, are also used. The definitions of the danger statement, warning state-
ment, caution statement and international symbols are described as follows:

ware or test equipment if the safety information is not obeyed.
1-1 GENERAL(continued)
For systems powered from a power distribution box which has a lockout capability,
lock out the system power at the main input (Power Distribution Box) prior to any component changes.
1-2 OVERVIEW
DANGER
READ THIS MANUAL IN ITS ENTIRETY PRIOR TO SERVICING CT SYSTEM.
FAILURE TO HEED THIS WARNING MAY RESULT IN EQUIPMENT DAMAGE,
PERSONAL HARM, HARM TO OTHERS OR DEATH.
This CT Gantry has continuous rotation design for its rotor (Slip–ring type). Therefore, do not service this CT system
in the same way as an alternating rotating system (Non Slip–ring type) such as you did for CT 9000 series, Max series,
Pace, and Sytec series, otherwise, you might:
D Gantry Mechanical
D Gantry Electrical
D PDU Electrical
Note
To reduce the risk from potential hazards, always use appropriate Lockout/Tagout procedures when
servicing the system.
WARNING
ELECTRIC SHOCK AND BURN HAZARD! TURN OFF THE OC POWER SWITCH WHEN
ACCESSING THE COMPONENTS OF THE OC. THIS TURNS OFF THE CONTACTOR WITHIN
THE PDU, SO THAT AC115V LINE FOR THE OC IS DISCONNECTED. THEREFORE, ALL
POWER CAN BE THOROUGHLY REMOVED FROM THE OC.
NOTICE
Electrostatic discharge hazard. It is essential to link yourself to ground potential by wearing
an anti–static wrist strap when accessing any circuit boards within the OC. No board should
ever be accessed without this precaution.
This section describes the safety precautions that must be realized when servicing the GANTRY. The following areas
of potential hazards are discussed in this section:

DANGER
DO NOT USE THE STOP SCAN SWITCH, LOCATED ON THE KEYBOARD, TO
STOP GANTRY ROTATION DURING AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. PRESSING
THIS SWITCH ONLY ABORTS THE SCAN AND THE GANTRY CONTINUES TO
ROTATE. PRESS THE EMERGENCY STOP SWITCH (ILLUSTRATION 2–3) OR
ONE OF THE GANTRY EMERGENCY STOP SWITCHES (ILLUSTRATION 2–1
OR 2–2) TO STOP GANTRY ROTATION.
This section describes the potential hazards associated with gantry rotation. Your safety will be compromised if you
do not understand the risks. Please read carefully.
DANGER
IMPACT HAZARD!! DURING SERVICING, AVOID THE AREA AT THE RIGHT OR
LEFT SIDE OF THE GANTRY WHENEVER THE GANTRY IS ROTATING AND
THE SIDE COVERS ARE REMOVED. ALSO AVOID THIS AS MUCH AS POS-
SIBLE WHEN THE GANTRY IS NOT ROTATING. FAILURE TO HEED THIS
WARNING MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL HARM, HARM TO OTHERS, OR
DEATH.
Do not leave any board chassis opened during scanning, otherwise boards could be ejected at high speed and de-
stroyed. In addition, always use procedures described in the service documentation when replacing components.
CAUTION
Impact Hazard. All components in the Gantry must be secured adequately using the proper
tools and all mounting hardware must be properly torqued to specification (if applicable).
Mounting procedures described in the service documentation must be stringently followed.
Failure to heed this caution may result in personal harm, harm to others.
WARNING
MECHANICAL HAZARD! IF THE XG ERROR OCCURS, THE GANTRY WILL BE ROTATED
SUDDENLY TO THE 180 DEGREE POSITION TO PREVENT LEAKING OF OIL FROM THE
TUBE. WHEN SERVICING THE GANTRY WITH THE COVER(S) REMOVED, THE AXIAL DRIVE
SWITCH (ROTATE) MUST BE TURNED OFF. FAILURE TO HEED THIS WARNING MAY RESULT
IN PERSONAL HARM, HARM TO OTHERS OR DEATH.
Illustration 2–4 shows the location of the Axial Drive Switch (Rotate switch) to enable or disable the axial drive motor
of the Gantry which is accessed at the gantry rear base.
Turn the Axial Drive Switch OFF to prevent it from rotating. Consequently, the Axial Drive Enable Buzzer also stops
sounding.
DANGER
MECHANICAL HAZARD!! NEVER PUT ANY BODY PART INTO THE GANTRY
WITHOUT DISABLING THE AXIAL DRIVE AND VERIFYING THAT IT IS DIS-
ABLED. THE AXIAL DRIVE ENABLE BUZZER MUST BE OFF. DO NOT SER-
VICE THE GANTRY IF THE BUZZER SOUNDS. FAILURE TO HEED THIS WARN-
ING MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL HARM, HARM TO OTHERS OR DEATH.

D Never work in the Gantry when the Axial drive enable buzzer sounds.
D If the side covers are removed, avoid standing at the right or left side of the gantry during gantry rotation.
D Always lockout/tag the system power line disconnect after shutting off power to the Gantry.
D Look at the position of the Axial Drive Switch (Illustration 2–4). Use this switch to stop the gantry and buzz-
er. This switch must be OFF to ensure that the gantry is safe for servicing.
D Always hold the gantry with the Azimuth lock pin during service, otherwise the Gantry may unexpectedly
rotate under unbalanced conditions which occur when components are removed, thus, causing gantry
rotation.
WARNING
MECHANICAL HAZARD! FAILURE TO HOLD THE GANTRY USING THE AZIMUTH LOCK PIN
PRIOR TO REMOVING COMPONENTS MAY LEAD TO GANTRY MOTION WHICH CAN STRIKE
A PERSON CAUSING INJURY OR DEATH.
D Always remove jewelry (e.g. watches, rings, etc.), secure clothing and remove any clothing which could
get caught in rotating components.
D Always secure the side covers, front cover, and rear covers of the Gantry and tube hoist rail before tilting
the gantry.
D Always use the hardware mounting procedures defined in the service documentation.
D Be sure that any covers on the Gantry rotating section are on and secured.
The PDU provides 400 VAC to the X–ray Generator subsystem via the slip ring in the Gantry. Illustration 2–7 shows
the XG power (440VAC) control switch on the Gantry rear base. The switch is used to open the System Safety Loop;
when this Loop is opened, the K1 contactor in the PDU is turned OFF, disabling the 400V AC supply.

THE 200, 380, 400, 415, 440, 460, OR 480, 3 PHASE VAC INCOMING LINE. NEV-
ER ENTER THE GANTRY INTERNAL AREA WITHOUT ENSURING THAT YOU
HAVE DISABLED THE AXIAL DRIVE AND THE XG POWER SWITCH (400VAC
SOURCE). TOUCHING ANY POINT AT 400VAC IS LIKELY TO RESULT IN ELEC-
TROCUTION.
DANGER
ELECTROCUTION!!
TWO PEOPLE MUST ALWAYS BE PRESENT WHEN THE 400 VAC SUPPLY IS
BEING MONITORED. WHILE ONE PERSON IS MAKING THE VOLTAGE MEA-
SUREMENT, THE OTHER PERSON IS STANDING NEAR THE XG POWER
SWITCH, READY TO FLIP THE SWITCH OFF IN THE EVENT OF AN EMER-
GENCY. FAILURE TO HEED THIS WARNING MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL IN-
JURY OR ELECTROCUTION.
DANGER
ELECTROCUTION!!
THE 750VDC IS FLOATING INSIDE THE XG UNITS.
IT TAKES MORE THAN 5 MINUTES TO BLEED OFF THE CAPACITORS IN THE
XG UNITS AFTER XG POWER SWITCH AT THE GANTRY REAR BASE IS
TURNED OFF.
WARNING
EXPLOSION HAZARD!
LARGE FILTER CAPACITORS OF THE XG GENERATOR IN THE GANTRY COULD EXPLODE
UNDER CERTAIN SITUATIONS. THEREFORE, BE SURE THAT ALL GENERATOR COVERS
ARE IN PLACE AND THAT SAFETY GLASSES ARE WORN AT ALL TIMES. OTHERWISE,
PERSONAL INJURY MAY OCCUR FROM FLYING DEBRIS SUBSEQUENT TO A CAPACITOR
EXPLOSION.
In addition to the cautions and warnings in this GANTRY ELECTRICAL HAZARD section, follow the steps below prior
to servicing the gantry:
D Always lockout/tag the system power line disconnect after shutting off power to the gantry. Verify the ab-
sence of electrical power before attempting any disassembly.
D Do not manually rotate the Gantry without knowing what you are touching.
D Only use the methods of voltage measurements that are depicted in the service documentation.
