1.1 Product description
This FIST-TAP-200 closure is a re-enterable in-line splice closure for fiber optic cables. It provides mechanical and
environmental protection for fiber optic splices and permits easy access by the customer. The enclosure is
suitable for aerial applications. The closure can handle looped cable by storing the fibers as uncut bare fibers. It
has at both sides 1 main cable and 4 drop cable ports. The cable sealing is accomplished using gel technology.

4.2 Cable installation
4.2.1 Choose the appropriate spiral tube (see table), cut it in two
equal pieces and wrap it around the fibers.
4.2.2 In case of cable inner tube diameter 6 mm (0.24); slide
the smaller spiral tube inside (30 mm, 1.2) the inner tube of the
cable
In case of cable inner tube diameter 4 mm (0.16); slide
the bigger spiral tube over (30 mm, 1.2) the inner tube of the cable.
Note: When the spiral tube is slided inside the inner tube, pull gently
on the fibers to avoid buckling.
4.2.3 Slide the spiral tubes over (or inside) the inner tube of the cable
(see point 4.2.2).

4.2.5 Bend the strength members towards the cable and secure
them with a hose clamp together with the cable jacket.
Note: In case of one cable the rod(supplied with the closure) will be
installed on the cable attachment plate as if it is a second cable.
4.2.6 Cut the strength members next to the hose clamp.
4.2.8 Attach the closure to the closure bracket and attach the
bracket to the strand.
Note: Make sure the uncut fibers cannot be damaged. Closure can be
mounted using the local mounting brackets.
4.2.9 Loosen the nut of the ground feed through.
5
4.2.11 Position the cable attachment plate in the closure and mark
the cables as shown. Make sure the positioning and marking is done
accurately.
Note: In case a rod is installed, treat it the same way as a cable.
4.2.10 Clean the cable with the cleaning tissue.
4.2.12 Two foams are installed left and right of the marks. The wider
foam is put next to the mark at the side of the tie wraps.
4.2.13 Insert the cable attachment plate in the closure and tighten the
washer and nut of the ground feed through onto the cable attachment
plate.
4.2.14 Secure the cable attachment plate with two screws.
Note: Make sure the nut of the ground feed through is tightened.
4.2.15 Pull the gel at both sides from underneath the cable (both main
cables)
6
4.2.16 Tighten the tie-wraps around the cables and trim tie-wraps.
4.3 Fiber preparations and routing
4.3.1 Take the foam and cut it in half. Wrap the foam around the
spiral tube ends.
4.3.2 Position the spiral tube on the base tray and secure with a tie-
wrap. Trim tie-wrap.
Note: position the tie-wrap in the middle of the foam.
4.3.3 Remove the transparent cover from the tray.
4.3.4 Cut the designated fibers to be spliced (at the distribution side)
next to the spiral tube as shown.
4.3.5 Unlock the tray by pulling the two locking tabs to the outside
and lift the tray out of the locks.
7
4.3.6 Route the cut fibers through the base tray, hinge the tray and
lock it. On the tray, route the fibers under the long tab and go through
the opening to the other side of the tray (see arrows).
Note: when the fibers are coming from the opposite direction, change
direction by making an S (go through the cross as shown on the picture).
4.3.7 Hinge the tray and organize the cutted fibers on the tray. Not
spliced fibers(dark fibers) are always stored in the middle storage area.
Route the dark fibers underneath the tab as shown (see arrow), dark
fibers have to be placed on top of the active ones.
Note: Store the fibers with a big as possible bendradius; make sure all
fibers are underneath the tabs.
4.3.8 Route the uncut fibers through the base tray onto the tray (see
drawing at point 4.3.6). Hinge the tray back into the closed position.
Make sure the tray is secured underneath the two locking tabs.
4.3.9 Route the fibers under the long tab (see arrow) onto the tray
and store the fibers.
4.3.10 Install the transparent cover onto the tray.
Note: make sure all fibers are underneath the tabs before installing the
cover.
4.3.11 Make sure the sealing areas (O-rings and gel) are clean. Close
the closure by locking all the latches. Close them following the
indicated sequence.
8
5.1.1 Open the closure by releasing all latches, start with opening
the 8 latches at the side (A) and then the 6 latches in the middle (B).
5 Drop cable
5.1 Closure preparation
5.1.2 Remove the foam plugs from the designated port.
5.1.3 Put tie-wraps in the slots of the bottom shell.
5.1.4 Make a slit in the gel (approximately equal to the depth of the
port) with a pair of snips.
Note: Slit is made in the middle of the port.
5.2 Cable preparation
5.2.1 Remove the fiber cable from the strand and coax cable.
5.2.2 Prepare the cable according to the drawing and clean the
fibers.
Note: To be able to insert the 4 fibre count drop cable into the KTD
(outer diameter bigger then 5.5 mm (0.2), remove the outer-jacket
over a distance of 15 mm (0.6).
5.3.1 Unlock the tray by pulling the two locking tabs to the outside
and lift the tray out of the locks. Hinge the tray.
5.3 Cable installation
9
5.3.2 Position the cable end flush with the top of the Kevlar
Termination Device (KTD). Wrap the Kevlar as shown around the Kevlar
Termination Device (KTD)
Note: The Kevlar needs to be wrapped 2.5 wraps around the KTD. In
case of too much Kevlar, amount of Kevlar does not fit into the groove
at the bottom of the KTD; cut away the excess of Kevlar.
5.3.3 Snap the KTD into the closure and cut off the excess of the
Kevlar.
Note: Make sure the Kevlar is trimmed and does not interfere with
sealing of the closure.
5.3.4 Clean the cable with the cleaning tissue.
5.3.5 Position the cable in the port and mark the cable as shown.
Make sure the marking is done accurately.
5.3.6 Two foams are installed left and right of the marks. The wider

10
5.3.8 Pull the gel at both sides from underneath the cable.
5.4 Fiber routing
5.4.1 Remove all the stored (dark) fibers out of the middle
area of the tray.
5.4.2 Route the fiber via the slots of the base tray to the tray
according to the drawing (picture).
Note: routing of fibers has to go underneath already installed drop
cables.
11
5.4.3 Splice the designated fibers to one another and store them as
shown. Start the routing of the fiber underneath the tab (see arrow).
When needed change the direction of the drop fibers by making an S
through the cross in the tray (as shown).
Note: It is recommended to keep all fibers of the main cable (250
micron) to the right of the splicing storage area. This to avoid
unnecessary crossing of fibers.
5.4.4 Route the dark fibers underneath the tab (see arrow); on top of
the active fibers.
5.4.5 Route the dark fibers into the storage area as shown and store
the fibers.
Note: Store the fibers with a big as possible bendradius; make sure all
fibers are underneath thetabs.
5.4.6 Hinge the tray back into the closed position. Make sure the
tray is secured underneath the two locking tabs.
Note: Check that all fibers are underneath the tabs.
5.4.7 Make sure the sealing areas (O-rings and gel) are clean. Close
the closure by locking all the latches. Close them following the
indicated sequence.
